    Excellent information, keeping those crowns clear of debris is so important! Checked long-range forecast, we will have peaks above freezing but still spots of -7C, so looks like very end of March, beginning of April before I can un-mulch my babies. Not that long but dang, it feels like forever. lol

      Smart Sandy. Any big dips in temperature and I leave the plants all snug. Even under the old foliage is better than exposed when the temperature is super cold (plus wind chill).

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Hey Ceecola, the best way is to let a few runners travel in the direction you want. Strawberries aren't a vine plant though. They will have to physically be planted on a trellis, best done through the runners.

    How can you tell which strawberries you have to fertilize?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Usually by name. If you know the variety name, then you can look up if its june-bearing or everbearing. If not, then just watch a year of fruiting. If they fruit all spring, summer, and fall, you have everbearing. If its one big summer bounty, then you have june-bearing. 🙂

    I have 3cuft FoxFarm Ocean Forest Potting Soil. I need 7 cuft more for 5 10-gallon grow bags. I was going to mix all together. What do I need? Was going to add compost and black cow manure. Trying to keep cost down, but healthy. I have 5 tomato plants about 10" tall.

    Hi Jeff,
    thanks for the video.
    One question: Does it have to be liquid fertilizer? I have heart non liquid fertilizer works only, if it is above 10°C also during nighttime. Can you confirm this?

    Strawberries are darn near indestructible, the landscapers at apartments got a little too happy with the weed eater once about a pinhead of leaf was left they came right back.

    I'm unsure how you can get away with only fertilizing once per year when growing strawberries in containers whether they're June bearers or not. How is it that you can do that and not impact the plants?

      Good to know I'm in Seattle and I still haven't put on the winter mulch. Just didn't get cold enough and now I'm wondering what to do if this coming snow doesn't last longer than 3 days and is followed by another warming period I might just have to remulch in a week or so never putting on the winter mulch.
      It keeps frosting and then day nights rise into the 50s and 40s for a week or 2 all winter long so far.
