@@INXS1985 Absolutely gonna listen to every last one of those and read Nick’s reviews, too. I’m a total film fiend and have watched a truly embarrassing number of film review/analysis channels, and there’s just nothing else even vaguely like this channel on youtube. The depth of Nick’s film knowledge was the first thing that really stood out and pulled me in, but they’re both so smart and thoughtful and funny and insightful and great.

there is something about Margaret's interactions with her daughter, and Abbie wearing the same zip up through out the movie makes me think Abbie died at some point in the movie or before the events of the movie take place. The zip up really stood out to me. Abbie is dressed differently only in the last scene when she is holding the baby that is supposed to be dead. Both Ben and Abbie are a fantasy at that point. Abbie's accident and the way the camera zoomed in on her wound, the way Abbie goes to that one friend of hers(also where she gets hurt). She mentions her friend twice and on the second time Margaret doesnt let her go. Perhaps she is reliving the traumatic events of Abbie's death and is living out a fantasy where Abbie is going off to college. The way Abbie's and Margaret's interactions come across more like memories. The tooth which was very weird. Not sure quite yet what I think of it. The way Margaret screams "my children" grouping Abbie and Ben who died years ago together. Perhaps Abbie's death was the trigger. I also think the room in the inn was hers. At that point she was living two lives, dressing like two different people. Most of what we see is happening in her head, including the hotel scene. At the end she has both her kids there with her, until the realization hits. Thats my take anyways. Curious if anyone else had the same thought about Abbie. Just something about her character did not feel "present" or "alive" to me. Did Abbie die a month or however long before her 18th birthday? Loosing her second child triggered an episode of delusion. The trauma of an abusive relationship with David, and loosing her first child under extremely traumatic circumstances, which were very likely not what she tells us in her monologue. In her mind David is a monster, but also the memory of her baby is always going to be connected to David. Hence, in her delusion David has Ben in his belly. Does she blame herself for Ben's death and perhaps, Abbie's. The scene when she doesnt let Abbie go out. If Abbie did get fatally hurt, maybe in Margarets mind, if she didnt let her out, it wouldnt had happened? Anyways, does it make sense to anybody else?

I was guessing the tooth was actually from David. When Margaret first confronted him in the park he smiled and that tooth was missing. I think at that point she realized or imagined it was his and there could be big trouble for Abbie she needed to save her from. He also admitted to being responsible for Abbie‘s accident. Thank you for the clarity on this film.

Initially I loved the tone, plot and pacing of the movie as it introduced us to Margret and her life and her relationship with her daughter however it failed to capture me once David had been introduced. It was obvious that Margaret was unraveling and was probably having a mental episode. I think Abby leaving for college triggered the separation anxiety Margret felt when she lost Ben and the consequent interactions with David were hallucinations. I liked how lighting was used in the last scene to depict that dream like state when Margret was holding the baby and how it slowly changed as reality sunk in. The acting was superb but somehow the writing lost me halfway into the film. I found myself fast forwarding through the second half already anticipating how it would end.

I thought it was cool. My take is a severe relapse after she gets pregnant bu her coworker. A complete flashback with all the rites and rituals of the initial experience. Scared herself with the lengths she was willing to go for her children as a result of the trauma ( brainwashing). You could subjectively make this case.

I really got into this movie, so much so that I almost forgot to pick up my kids who were trick-or-treating pretty late at night!!!! That being said, this movie could have been saved by one final shot of Margaret sitting in a room in a hospital gown, holding a doll, and they pan out, and she’s in a psych ward.
I really related to the fear of losing your child to them growing up and leaving home. That was probably the trigger that led to Maggie losing it.
