    Thank you, Beko. It was very helpful. Detailed and with helpful explanations. Thank you for your skill and patient working through each point. No wonder you have a reputation with your clients. I managed to pull apart the DC14, polished the the commutator (in the motor) with wet and dry sandpaper, checked and then cleand the brushes and surrounds with contact cleaner, then re-assembled the DC14. I had to refer to your video at points for detailed instructions. It works. Beats a service manual!

    Hello Beko1987! This video was a great mentor to me as I took apart my Dyson DC14 to replace the stinking valve carriage. I was warned by a vacuum repair shop that the plastic on Dyson's (at least the early model), has been a big issue for them because over the years it becomes very brittle and breaks easily. I found that to be VERY true. When I went to remove the post motor filter that you demonstrate at 10:32 seconds, some pieces broke. When I took off the post motor filter, two "buttons" that pop out on the base (that keep the post motor filter on -- or that they snap onto -- broke off...the front one and the one on the right (if you are facing the vacuum). I put the PMF back on anyway and hoped for the best. At first the vacuum was doing great, but then the air suction pressure caused the PMF to sort of pop up while vacuuming and making a howling sound. I'm guessing I can't replace the base of the Dyson that easily, eh? I am going to try duct tape after I replace the HEPA permanent filter) and see if that works. Not sure what to do. Suggestions? Thanks!

      @beko1987  Před 6 lety

      Anette Hassold Great to hear you've got stuck in! I've had the little tabs on the side of the filter cover itself break off, but usually it clips back on but if the tabs on the actual motor housing have come off then that's going to be annoying! You need to change the cover itself, which isn't an expensive part, but requires the switch to be disassembled, and the entire cleaner stripped as if you were changing the motor, then the cover pops off the motor unit. If you've got a fresh filter in place, which now shouldn't need touching for a while I'd say try some double sided tape around the top lip and see if that sticks the cover down, or as you say, God's own gaffa tape! I wouldn't glue it as that will be annoying to get it back off again should you need to. Or, maybe some small little screws into the top lip. It's very far away from the motor so you won't come a cropper there. Good luck either way! Sam

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  Před 6 lety

      Anette Hassold Follow this, you'll see where the cover comes off. I'd imagine Stuart (the bloke who owns Manchester Vacs) would post you a used cover out for pennies plus post if you mention my name! Or look on ebay! manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php/topic,3066.0.html

      @AH-tg2mk Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks so much for your reply, Sam! I will look into getting the part on eBay since I live in the States. First I will try "God's gaffa tape". Haha....aka duct tape and we'll see how that goes! I don't know that I want to take the Dyson apart again due to the brittle plastic. But when my Dyson does die (which was handed down to me, so I didn't buy it), I will need a new vacuum. Do you have a CZcams video on your best vacuum suggestions? Might be a little different since what you can get in the UK and States might differ. Thanks again!

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  Před 6 lety

      Anette Hassold Ah the US, yes, the motor cover may not be 50p there... Tbh on a 14 that should be the only real brittle part, and it's only brittle because it's so thin. Can't say I've ever had another part of a 14 break, their made of better plastics. You guys didn't get the dc01 or 04 I don't think, their early 90s machines and they go stupidly brittle, and fade too. I might know some American collectors, ill try and find out how much the part would be. I have no idea really!

    • @AH-tg2mk
      @AH-tg2mk Před 6 lety

      Hey Sam! I found the motor cover on ebay for about $7.00. I am going to try the duct tape first. I am guessing that since you are a Vacuum Ninja, you are able to take them apart without plastic snapping b/c you know the proper amount of pressure to apply and you know how the parts come off. Give me about 10 more Dyson's to work on and I might get up to Vacuum Ninja Apprentice. :D haha. Thanks for the tips!

    I have a dyson dc07 and got it a few days ago (and I'm 13) and did something other people my age wouldn't do and that is refurbish it Replace the clutch, buy new filters, polish it. Works very well for a 14 year old dyson dc07 better than my bissell power lifter quite embarrassing because I vacuumed first with the bissell and then the dyson in the same spot and picked up more I also cleaned them both a lot before doing the test. These strip down videos are great! I just did a full refurb of a DC 25. Found a dumped one for free, but it had some broken parts. Wanted to refurb it but not spend much money. I found it was cheaper to buy another non working DC25 from eBay for £15 and make one good one! To just buy the spare parts alone would have cost me nearly double that.

    • @beko1987

      Very pleased to hear it! Yes, often it's cheaper to buy one for spares, I have amassed the spare parts I have from machines that aren't worth repairing. I have a 25 for breaking in the shed as it's very tatty, and needs a brushroll motor, so £30 on a machine I'd struggle to sell for £60 after a full refurb = worth more in parts!

Generally i have to say that i think the overall longevity of these types of design is very poor when you consider that most people might well bin them rather than fix them. What a really bad waste of resouces. No wonder Dyson and his" engineers" are making bundles of dosh. This is not engineering , its a good way to prove that bullshit baffles brains.

The commutator is in a right state, I will attempt to clean all the carbon debris from the gaps and see if this improves things otherwise I am looking at a replacement motor. I have seen cheap non ydk motors from £15, I did watch your good video on motor problems which was useful. Question is would I buy a tested used ydk unit or a 'brand new' non patent motor for around the same price?

But there is no suction on the bottom (the main part. i dont know what it is called) checked all the tubes if there is something clogging it, they are all clean so answer is no. brush is spinning there is no problem with that. removed the cover to see maybe there is something around the brush which is clogging the way, again the answer is no. what can be the possible reason that there is no suction on the main part? :(

    • @beko1987
      @beko1987  Před 6 lety

      Danny Toney You sure can! Their just pushed onto the inner axle. Grab and twist and pull both sides and one will come off. Pull the axle out with the one that stayed on. Then, using the end of the axle, partially push it into the bearing and 'flip/lever' it out. If the bearing has a black plastic ring around the inside, pop that out with a tiny screwdriver, clean any burnt out oil off, and fill with fresh grease and pop the cap back on. Spin it by hand to distribute the grease, the push the bearing back into the brushroll. Push the axle back into the roller, it can be a bit fiddly getting it out the other end, have the bearing back out if it's tricky as it makes the hole bigger(oo-er). Fit the bearing, fit the e d cap and voila, you 1 - Dyson 0

It has the catch to pull up the side filter (on the bottom right) casing with the same little lever on all the Dc07s. I find this very unusual as all Dc14s I've had never had this. Is this a feature they had on the very early Dc14s? Before doing away with the lever altogether? Seeing that no filter goes in this part on the Dc14s like they do on all Dc07s. I'd love to know why!
