I was gonna say that i don't know why people even like Tyler, then i remembered it was my ex that i watched this show with and he was the one who liked Tyler, and everything makes sense now...
I mean, we like what we like, Tyler's character most of the time isn't anything to write home about... But if the reason why one dislikes him is purely moral and specifically tied to his treatment of Vicky in the beginning and such; then, ok, but... Is he the worse offender among all the other characters? I mean, if that's a deal breaker, even if we leave murdering and torturing and manipulating and all of the other terrible behaviors and we boil in down to "treatment towards women", there are other characters that have done faaaaar worse than him

Even if Damon HAD seen the ring, what he did was beyond messed up.
I love Caroline and Stefan's friendship. She's so unserious and it balances out Stefan's demeanor well. You can already see that in this episode alone. I often find Stefan a bit drab, personally, but I like him best when he's bumping up against Caroline or Damon (who's also chronically unserious).
I really do enjoy their friendship but I feel like they ruined it later on in the show

Yeah I agree if you mean them getting together. Which is the same reason I'm glad they never let Damon & Bon Bon be a couple because they would've ruined one of my favorite friendships with relationship drama. Though I'm a Delena fan so I am biased towards Damon only being with Elena, but who ever they pair up with Damon as his new right hand is always my favorite friendships.

Yes Elena doesn't like Damon right now but after Damon said Oh I'll take good care of her. She 100% kissed Stefan to make Damon jealous. Not because she wants him to like her but because she knows he likes her and wants it to hurt him and make him jealous. If I was Stefan I would have been irritated that she used him to make Damon jealous. I'm a big Delena fan Damon is my favorite character and I love Elena's character but that was dirty to use Stefan like that and immature. That was not a good by kiss.

On the first time watching this show, it was this episode with Caroline that it dawned on me that Vampire Diaries characters are basically updated versions of Buffy characters- yes, it took me that long to realise!! I would like to confirm that I do in fact find Stefan more attractive than Damon 😂
(No spoilers ahead)
I think we have to remember that while Damon definitely has control over his blood lust more than Stefan (and obviously Caroline’s new so Damon has years of practice on her) HOWEVER the biggest difference between their control capabilities (and why I personally think Caroline is better at her blood lust) is simple: Caroline has such a big heart. She cares so deeply and has always been like that. Obviously she’s super new so her mistakes with Matt and that guy from the carnival was awful, but she deeply and instantly regretted and was actively trying to figure out how to stop and not be/feel like a monster. She is even trying to live by Stefan’s animal diet right away after turning. Damon may have very good control, but he lacks empathy and quite frankly, respect. And that makes Caroline better at controlling herself than Damon in my opinion.
Regarding Stefan, I think I agree with most of the comments because it seems like y’all are way too harsh on him 😅. I know y’all love Damon and have (seemingly) decided to be on his team, there seems to be a lot of forgiveness extended to Damon and not so much towards Stefan and I really think it’s because of Ian’s pretty privilege. Ian is SUPER charming and it’s no secret he has the beautiful and haunting eyes. But Stefan is getting so shit on for being (admittedly) quite cringy and just plain (?) compared to Damon. Idk it’s just unfair 😅
Now, Damon as a whole is an amazing and super interesting character. I think he’s definitely one of my favorite anti-heroes in any show I’ve watched BUT even loving his character, I still admit he sucks so much. His personality is awful most of the time, and he’s very entitled and rude, especially with Stefan just openly flirting with Elena in front of him, and playing games with his quips. He enjoys getting under Stefan’s skin so much and it’s very annoying at times because he just has no respect for Elena or Stefan and their relationship. He has done so many unforgivable things that I just can’t stand Delena as a ship. I think Damon is toxic and placed his obsession with Katherine on Elena so much that I genuinely don’t believe he loves her. I think he just loves to win over Stefan and I think he loves the idea that Katherine chose him so he’s just replacing that with Elena. That’s why he killed her brother. He didn’t get what he wanted when he tried to FORCE himself on her (let’s not forget that please) and then he gets pissy at Elena for “using him” when tbh? Elena had every right to be upset and tell him that they have no friendship. Damon telling her off at the end was another Damon type tantrum. I’m incredibly happy he apologized but killing her only brother was very unforgivable. I know it sounds like I hate the guy, but I don’t I promise. I just hate what the concept of ’Delena’ does to him. He loses his mind and goes out and does awful things. He needed therapy back in 1864 to deal with his weird jealousy towards Stefan and that jealousy as a vampire has only gotten more powerful. Like Caroline’s control tendencies and Vicky’s addiction problems.
Anyways sorry for the rant. Love the reactions so much and I can’t wait to dive into more of the Lockwood lore because it’s gonna get so good!

I think most people find Ian Somerhalder attractive. Its just that Delena is a very popular ship, so their antis are louder.
I liked that Elena turned the tables on him! As a viewer and Damon fan its a tough one because you feel bad for the surely triggering manipulation and he did save her life, but in the same episode admits to attempted murder. The showrunners obviously intended to make you have complicated feelings for him, and I was definitely feeling them all in this episode.
i remember Julie (co-creator and producer of the series) mentioned that they did try so hard for the audience to hate on damon, but at the end he's loved even after so many years that the show ended... 🥰
It wasn’t attempted murder, Damon was gonna turn Jeremy, that was his intention, not killing him. Pay attention to what he’s saying when he’s trying to snap Jeremy’s neck, he’s talking about Jeremy and himself. SPOILERS
the writers were trying to tell Damon’s story one at the time, at this moment we had no idea about his childhood abuse, the traumatic experiences he had in the civil war and the Augustine incident so we had no idea that Damon had CPTSD and this scene was classic emotional outburst that is usually the consequences of developing CPTSD at young age. This is how it usually works, when you get hurt after someone provoked your CPTSD triggers, (Katherine emotional manipulation, the puppet master behind the scene who’s really at fault for this) it’s like it opens the gate to all the pain and suffering of your past traumas and give you emotional flashbacks like all the traumas of your existence were happening all over again. Damon was hurting and he knew Jeremy was too, so in a moment he completely lost his touch with reality due to the overwhelming emotions he was feeling and he did what he did not to hurt Elena but to protect himself to first turn Jeremy to give him the opportunity to turn off his pain and then he would turn it off himself, he couldn’t even register in his brain at the moment that hurting Jeremy would hurt Elena as well, that’s why it was Elena’s scream that brought him back to reality and stopped him from turning off his emotions. If you pay attention to his facial expressions, there was utter shock on his face, he couldn’t even believe what he had just done, because during CPTSD emotional flashbacks, you have little to no control over your emotions and you might unintentionally hurt your loved ones and of course a vampire’s emotional out bust are way more intense than humans. This is what people usually don’t understand about that scene.
