  • 3 Drills For Modern One Handed Backhand in Tennis - Thiem Wawrinka Federer Backhand Technique. The one handed backhand in tennis is a difficult shot to master and it has evolved throughout the years. ATP Players like Dominic Thiem, Stan Wawrinka and Roger Federer use it to great effect and are able to generate incredible backhand power and backhand topspin as well as have the ability to hit precise shots on the run even when pulled out wide.
    Download our free one handed backhand guide pdf here - www.top-tennis-training.com/o...
    With Australian Open 2020 Final approaching we anticipate a big battle between Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic. One Handed Backhand vs Two Handed Backhand. Many coaches have dismissed the one handed backhand as a dying art; a shot that will not withstand the demands of the modern game but we get proven again and again by players like Thiem who defeated Rafael Nadal in the semi finals, that it can be a real weapon if used correctly.
    You may be asking yourself questions like: How to hit a tennis backhand? How to hit a one handed backhand in tennis?
    There are 3 fundamental drills that any player wanting to master the modern single handed backhand should do. In this video we break down everything you need to take your tennis one handed backhand to the next level!
    P.S. Look out for the bonus backhand topspin lesson at the end of the video :)

    At age 13 I switched my backhand from two to one-handed. The guy who taught me how to do, was a very skilled old player who had played multiple times with former professionals like Ilie Nastase. He then always told me "the swing comes from the hip".
    Even 25 years later, I still almost do the same stroke technique and everybody is telling how beautiful my backhand is. Thanks to Stefan K. to Vienna or Palm Springs. Haven't seen u for more than 15 years.

    Guys, I recently started incorporating hip rotation into my backhand as well as my forehand. I think this detail is the most important element of the modern tennis stroke. I often warm up without a racket and just rotate my hips and let my upper body drag along after. This split second delay between hips and torso is key to the kinetic chain of power. I think you guys should develop drills that teach hip rotation as the starting point of the stroke after you’ve reached the ready position.

    I grew up watching Muster and learned his backhand -- now everyone is in awe of it and I'm like, damn, I've had it since I was a junior. The problem is that no one hits one handed much anymore so to see a crazy one handed everyone is like, "that's so beautiful to watch." I am thankful that I could never master the two handed -- sooo different. Oddly, my most powerful stroke.

    Thank you very much for this video. For those who do not speak english in France It's my pleasure to translate and summarize such relevant advices.
    LE REVERS A UNE MAIN. LES 3 ETAPES A RESPECTER.
    1) LA PREPARATION EN POSITION DE BASE;
    Le bras gauche porte la raquette avec la tête pointée vers le ciel. Le bras droit doit être tendu mais sans être crispé assez loin du corps. Ce dernier est de profil avec le menton presque collé à l'épaule.
    2) LE TRANSFERT DU POIDS DU CORPS;
    Pour déclencher le coup il faut veiller à ne pas transférer le poids du corps vers l'avant avant d'avoir frappé la balle, erreur très fréquente. Avant de déclencher le bras, on place le pied droit d'abord au niveau du talon, la pointe du pied vient ensuite. Après avoir lâché le bras en fin de geste le pied gauche se retrouve sur la pointe et le poids du corps a été transféré sur le pied droit.
    3) LA FLEXION DES DEUX JAMBES.
    Cet effort permet d'augmenter la poussée du corps à la fois du haut vers la bas et d'arrière en avant.
    LES 3 ELEMENTS COMPLEMENTAIRES DU GESTE
    1) LA ROTATION DES HANCHES.
    Ce mouvement fait participer tout le corps pour que le geste ne repose pas seulement sur le bras. Sinon le risque est de forcer et de se blesser à la longue
    2) LE POIGNET
    Lors du geste il faut essayer de garder le poignet souple, relâché et imprimer un mouvement de rotation vers le haut après le contact avec la balle. (Un peu comme un essuie-glace)
    C'est ce qui permet d'accélérer la rotation de la balle en augmentant l'effet lifté pour la guider au dessus du filet.
    3) LA PRISE DE RAQUETTE;
    Elle doit être ouverte et non fermée avec un plan de frappe perpendiculaire au sol ou si l'on préfère parallèle au filet ou au mur du fond.
    Voilà j'espère que ma traduction complétera la présentation des deux professeurs qui ont parfaitement analysé et illustré la question. Cette version en TANDEM est pour moi l'une des meilleures qui m'ait été donné de visionner sur internet.
    Je vais essayer de la mettre en pratique dès que l'on pourra retourner sans risques sur les courts.

      @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial The sliced backhand was used by most players of my generation lacking a modern lifted backhand. It can be a very efficient weapon when the ball falls as near as possible behind the net. It is also a means to neutralize powerful shots that you may receive. It offers other possibilities provided one is able to choose a proper direction for the ball. May be this theme could be of interest to you; Your duet formula in my opinion is an excellent idea. It's lively and very pleasant.

    Hey guys,
    One of the best 1HBH videos I’ve ever come across. Something that I struggle with is trying to keep my weight back (so that it can be transferred forward into the ball at contact) while also keeping my right shoulder down/staggering the shoulders as keeping your hitting shoulder down makes you want to lean forward naturally yet concurrently you need to keep your weight back. If this made any sense, do you have any tips for this? Thanks & keep up the great work

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  Před 3 lety +2

      Try lifting your front foot off the ground when you are loading up, you don't need to overdo the shoulder drop either, it's a very slight motion that shouldn't throw off your balance.
      Wawrinka is a good example, he does it very slightly.
      By lifting the front foot, you'll be forced to load up and stay on the back foot until you're ready to transfer the weight using the heel to toe motion

How do you suggest to deal with fast down the line shots when covering the court and we have less time to position correctly while running?

    Very good. There is this principle of using the non hitting arm to stretch backward a lot but this can prevent a proper hip rotation and also create tension in the swing. Wawrinka is a good illustration of this as his non hitting arm remains quite loose and doesn’t stretch back at all.
