Watching the Texas A&M band pass by at the start of every Battle of Flowers parade in San Antonio Texas every single year with this song playing as loud as it could, to me was worth going every single year since I was a child!!!

I'm an Alabama fan but I always enjoy hearing the Texas A&M Aggie War Hymn. I joined in 3 years ago when I was at the Alabama-Texas A&M game in College Station. The Aggie fans were wonderful and friendly.
Didn't attend a&m either. Went to a game at Kyle field about 4 years ago and everyone was super friendly! Was handed a bunch of free beer at the tailgate pre game party!
Bama and A&M have two of the top 5 fight songs. ND, Michigan and USC are the other 3.

The reason why we still choose to sing the Texas version of the war hymn is because of its back story. The song was written by James Vernon pinky Wilson. Pinky wrote the song in a trench during WW1. When singing the song you can feel the energy, strength and fightin spirit he had when writing it. This is his verse too but we just sing the second verse as the whole war hymn. In person It’s amazing. I recommend you attending a game to understand.

It's actually the "Aggie War Hymn." It was written by J. V. "Pinky" Wilson while standing guard on the Rhine River during WWI.
Hooah an Army man. My dad is an Aggie for life. Like many others this was played at his memorial service. The few times A and M was on tv we stood and watched the game

These songs go way way back when everything was regional. A lot of history and tradition between the War Hymm and the Texas Fight Song.

@@chorusfrog2548 Our university is all about tradition. It’s literally 90% of the reason most of us come to A&M. This fight song has been with the school since 1918. I’m 100% sure that if we stopped singing this song 1) the university would loose funding from it’s alumni, and 2) 90% of the student body would revolt in spectacular fashion.

It is not the fight song, it is the War Hymn! Alabama has a fight song. My dad is an Aggie 4-ever. This was played at his Final Salute Service at the veterans cemetery. Aggies old and young we did not know showed up, all were vets.

You do know that Texas’s fight song starts of with “Fight Texas Fight Texas and it’s goodbye to A&M”. These songs go way way back to when colleges competed regionally against each other. It’s only a two hour drive from Austin to College Station. A lot of history in these old fight songs.
