You explained this perfectly (what happens with people who cannot tolerate alcohol/have an addiction). This was exactly how I behaved as a 15 year old drinker - stimulant effect, completely out of my mind, pounding drinks until they're gone or I pass out... extreme blackouts from ages 15-30. I have been sober 18 years now. The price I had to pay for a drinking episode was so high, and I knew my life would eventually end with a car accident, overdose, or some other incident related to recklessness and impulsivity. I had to completely quit because ingesting it caused such extreme impulsivity. When I would black out, it was like some other thing stepped into my body, walked for me, talked for me... etc. A demon who would do crazy things I would never consider doing while sober. Quitting was one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

yep! I've tried controlled drinking SOOOOO many times. I even quit for 1.5 years once, then decided to "Do it responsibly." What a joke. I cannot "teach" myself to do that. Everytime I start thinking I can control it, I am B.S ing myself. I resumed drinking after the 1.5 years and after ONE WEEK I was drinking and driving again and out of control. So yeah.. I cannot find a way to master it and had to give that up. Been sober 18 years now.

Yeah, having one beer is the same as having 100, for me. That first drink guarantees an obsessive re-administration of dozens of drinks over the following days. That first 12 ounces has 100 beers in it, at least.

I'm quite similar. I enjoy it from time to time, but not regularly. Sometimes I feel like I'm missing out, and try, but then again, I don't think people really enjoy most nights out. They don't take anything away from these senseless nights, and I believe that alone removes a lot of potential satisfaction. However, every once in a while there'll be a magnificent night that keeps the habit going. It's just a real shame because I'm only 20 and already seeing friends start getting into bad habits with alcohol, weed etc. and I just don't see it working out for them. The danger of these things is they make eveything feel better, until they don't. By that point, you're already well far in.

    • @kristinav.767

Same. It can feel lonely though. Majority tries to get away, not take things seriously, they become different people from the substance abuse and the numbness. You know that they will not remember many of the things you had conversations about. If you find the behavior depressing and a "vanity of vanities", you sort of become the too "boring, scary, weird, confusing and serious" type in that circle of people. Been through it. It intimidates the party group and you and your values get laughed at a lot. But! Unfortunately, a lot of these people get into unhealthy, destructive habits in the end or along their life. Drug abuse, hallucinations, mental illnesses, loss of "friends" , wasted life, no will or true simple joy, broken up marriages, both partners can get involved in cheating while on the substances, no shame, but self hate and disgust can occur later on, ill children... I know many very sad stories. It's even worse when two party people form a marriage or think of it. Then they get a mentally ill kid with damaged DNA and wonder why it happened...

@@Metal197 exactly. I've met more people that say it is ok in moderation, that actually can't completely get rid of the habit, had addiction problems in the past and go back to it periodically and then drop it and say "I just had to get the tension off, I'm getting better" and do it again after a clean week or two. Many are quite dependant on everyday or weekend "moderate" drinks and frequently going on crazy festivals to get wasted. And then they say "I don't always do it" like it's any better that you get wasted less than hardcore addicts 😂

If you’re one of those people watching this video struggling with alcohol, naltrexone or acamprosate isn’t going to solve your (our) problem. Get sober. Struggling with alcohol never gets better. Go to AA. Get a sponsor. Indulge in the program. If you’re looking to the pharmaceutical genie to solve this problem, you’ve already acknowledged your alcoholism but don’t want to give it up yet. I’m 22 and getting sober is the best and most rewarding thing that’s ever happened to me in my young life. They say as an alcoholic whatever you put in front of your sobriety is what you’re going to lose. When I wasn’t sober I put everything in front of my sobriety (because I rarely had a full day of sobriety) and proceeded to lose it all time and time again. If naltrexone was successful against alcoholism then AA would just be a thing of the past. You’d be surprised what friendship and the common good can do.
