2019 Porsche Cayenne S | Spicy Money Burn | TestDriveNow

  • Through the years I think I’ve driven every Cayenne variant available: hybrid, plug-in, diesel, Turbo S - you name it. And I’ve always come away with a healthy appreciation of its on-road performance and admired its air of exclusivity. With MSRPs nearing and sometimes crossing well into the 6 figure realm the Cayenne, like all Porsche vehicles, is reserved for a select few.
    MSRP as-tested: $103,010

    Steve, you’re one of the few auto reviewers who tell it like it is! One of my vehicles was purchased in part because of your review of it. Thank you and don’t change sir!!!!!!

    This review is critical but objective. Porsche needs to go back to the drawing board in order to catch up with the competition. Thank you Steve for your insights.

    2019 Cayenne S with a 2.9 liter twin turbo V6 pushing 434 horsepower and 405 lbs ft of torque is pretty impressive to me. Acceleration times for the 2019 Cayenne S are 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile takes just 12.8 seconds at 109 mph. Just a decade ago the 2009 Cayenne GTS with it’s 4.8 liter V8 had 405 horsepower and 369 lbs ft of torque and the Cayenne S was rated at 385 horsepower and the same 369 lbs ft of torque. The 2009 Cayenne GTS did 0-60 in 6.2 seconds and took 14.8 seconds at 94.6 mph to do the 1/4 mile. That’s a full 2 seconds slower than the new Cayenne S from 0-60 mph and in the 1/4 mile. I wonder now if Porsche will put a detuned 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 from the Cayenne Turbo in the Cayenne GTS like they did in the Panamera GTS?

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  Před 4 lety

      Cayenne S (Sport Chrono) = 4.6 seconds @ $103,000 as-tested. GLE 63 = 4.2 seconds @ $103,000 base (loaded)

    It's a shame you Americans don't get the Audi RS4 with a more potent version of that 2.9 V6 which I find much more desirable than the Cayenne.

    Hi Steve. Have to say I disagree with you on the Cayenne S! I own a 2019 S model and came from a Mercedes GLE and can tell you that the Cayenne is a superior car in every regard! Listen, you might not like the price and you might feel Porsche try's to fleece you with the crazy price of all the options but it's better not to think of this car at it's base price and know after you get done with options it's going to be more like 110-115 grand! I have never driven a car/SUV whatever you call this thing that drives and accelerates and handles the way this car does!! Mercedes and BMW make nice luxurious SUV's but a Porsche is in another league in my opinion because of the handling and performance! Expensive yes but worth the price of admission!

    • @raynejad2188

      Driving Cayenne base 2019, compare to 2016 which I had it for 3 years(I lease), it is phenomenal. I am addicted to drive it every day. Cayenne speaks a different language. Show me something similar with less price I will get it but does not exist. I have been with MB for 16 years and 4 years with Porsche, unfortunately(love MB people) I have to move to Porsche for my 2nd car too. Which SUV can handle the corners the way Cayenne does? My ML was scary on ramp, I do 90 degree all corners with my Cayenne. Cayenne is King of corners.

      @@georgepotcovaru2595 I am driving my third Cayenne which is one month old. The 1st was a 2016, had it for 3 years, replaced with a 2019, had it for 5 years, lost it in an accident, ride off, nothing happened to me, I was not at fault, replaced it with the 3rd one. I have 8 years daily drive with it. The best you can get out there. I have Levante, and I am considering Urus. I will keep the Cayenne for sure. I can't replace it with Levante and Urus. It is a must to have for me. No concerns to put miles on it or even maintenance fees. Ridiculously low even at dealership. If you are a one SUV only person, that is it! It last 10 years at least with almost zero hassel.
