    One thing that Gus learned in BCS was from Mike. Mike says "I don't think fear is a great motivator", when discussing whether to let Nacho go. In Breaking Bad, Gus says to Mike almost verbatim "I don't believe fear to be an effective motivator". To me this implies something about the relationship with Nacho did not go the way it was supposed to and he adopted Mike's belief because of it, using it only when it desperately called for it. Such as when he threatens to kill Walter's entire family.

  • @theprogram863
    @theprogram863 Před 3 lety +13

    The three guys who dropped off the money would have been followed, identified, and arrested later, AFTER Hank and Gomez caught the pickup man. Arresting them at the time of the drop would have tipped off the pickup man, so Hank and Gomez would have delegated the job to other cops to do while the pickup was under way. Hence why the arrests were not shown on screen and weren't revealed until the end. That part wasn't a plot hole.
    I saw an interview where they said that Hank's gusto in his public persona was contrasted with his more cynical, cerebral asides to Gomez to help marry the character we saw in the pilot to the rest of what we saw of Hank later.
    Great summary! This episode abruptly turned into a spy thriller on us.

    • @theprogram863
      @theprogram863 Před 3 lety +1

      tl;dr: hank announced the three arrests were happening "as we speak" because that was proper procedure.
      If you want a plot hole, try the fact that Gus's operation reuses dead drop locations. That's a break in tradecraft, sometimes necessary but usually a mistake. If Hank and Gomez had secretly watched the locations for months, and tracked/identified the people making dropoffs and pickups, they could have started mapping out Gus's entire organization. A bit of a plot hole, but nice callback to a previous episode as you say. Also kind of explained as political pressure to get some arrests up front.
      The right way to do dead drops is to avoid reusing them. Also, don't even schedule pickup until after dropoff. If your dropoff men get arrested, immediately cancel pickup (hence why Hank and Gomez couldn't arrest the three guys before they staked out Diego). You can also scout out the location prior to pickup, with a guy who may not even know where the drop exactly is, to spot any possible surveillance without doing anything incriminating.

    Nothing's perfect - sometimes there seems to be a lack of screen time for Lalo and Nacho outside their importance to the plot. Lalo didn't even show up for two episodes in a row and in the next one he's a subject of other people's discussion before showing up to get arrested. How could Fring _not_ be the kingpin of a drug empire simply because he was with a legitimate employee at the time low-level dealers got arrested? That’s akin to organizing a murder, but then claiming you’re innocent because you were with someone else whilst the actual murder occurred.

      Theres a story about the KGB using a culvert this way in Germany. The package had a magnet on it to hold it against the culvert. But they didn't count on the weather. The layer of ice over the metal walls weakened the magnet, so the package fell off, slid down the ice at the bottom, and out into the middle of a nearby pond.
      When the KGB guy saw what happened, he was horrified. He ran to a nearby store, bought a fishing rod, tied a big piece of iron to the end of the line, and kept casting out onto the frozen pond to catch the magnet and retrieve his dead drop. Lots of people saw him but in the end he got his package back and learned to be more careful. He was never caught (the story eventually came from a defector).

    Please do a video on ABQ ADA Suzanne Ericson's role throughout the entire saga, she's still on the case in El Camino (on TV with the DEA), and she has the same motivation (the angry sense of having been tricked repeatedly on a grand scale) that Hank had. In the El Camino news scene on TV nothing is said about Saul being sought as a 'person of interest' or suspect/witness/conspirator, etc., but at that point Suzanne may not have seen Hank's files or viewed the videos made by Walt and Jesse, YET, and when she does get a hold of that evidence she'll have the same type of realization that Hank had when he figured out that Walt was Heisenberg, and she'll be VERY motivated to catch Saul, and interrogate ALL of the remaining suspects, from Skylar to Huell and Kuby, Pete, Badger, Old Joe, Francesca, and the professional convict that took the fall for Badger/Walt (hired by Saul, a bust that must be looked into in light of identifying the real Walter, and Detective Getz will be pissed off too), and of course KIM ! I'm hoping Kuby, and Detective Getz, will play a big part in the final season. Hank and Gomez were already looking for Kuby, as they told Huell in the motel room. Also, we don't know for sure what happened with Lydia, they only say she's in critical condition, but I think she must have called an ambulance immediately after Walt called her and told her he had poisoned her with ricin, so, she would've told the ambulance medics it was ricin, and that could be why she survived. Could Lydia or Kuby be the 'Mexico trip' that Ed told Jesse he would mail his letter from? I think the ADA character will be a lynchpin this season because it encompasses the entire timeline and was pivotal in so many events integral to the story, as Hank's character was, she may be a pivot point for the scripts to come, maybe she'll look into Ice Station Zebra holding company (what became of it? Did Saul/Gene have access to the cash there? Is Kim involved?) in her detective work and it will lead to something! This season will have to show Kuby's entry into the timeline and I'm sure that the producers know the fans will enjoy knowing his ultimate fate also, and that like DJ Qualls' character Detective Getz's entry into the timeline and his ultimate fate too, their roles aren't negligible, and they are very bankable stars as well!

      I’ll definitely do a video on Suzanne ericson! As well as a video on bill Oakley! Eventually. It’s on the list haha.
      Tbh I’m just waiting until season 6 airs/ends to do “character spotlight” videos, so I’m sure to include EVERYTHING about them. I want the character spotlights to be full definitive videos on any given character, so I’m holding off for any information we may get in s6.
      That’d be funny to see Suzanne ericson of all ppl try to chase down and catch saul Goodman lol

      @gordonmorris6359 Před 3 lety

      @@TheVividKiWi I'm so glad you saw my suggestions, and consider all of the times she was tricked by Kim and Saul, and how she is in the key position working with the DEA in pursuit of Jesse and presumably Saul & Co., logic dictates that she will have to be involved in assessing Hank's files and all evidence such as the confession videos of Walt (last seen at Hank's house) and Jesse (last seen at the gang house), and when she puts it all together (plus her own memory of Saul and Kim interactions, from the elevator to Lalo's cash bail, etc.) she's going to have that angry epiphany that Hank experienced when he put it all together and reflected on the many past times he was used and tricked. Plus, as I said, Burr and Qualls are hot commodities in the film industry ! If she interrogates everyone it will provide the framework to review the story for those that are new viewers, as well as provide the pivot point for the search (for Jesse, Saul, Kim?, Kuby, Ed, Francesca, Lydia) in general.

    It's logical that Hank would know that the road curved around back on itself if you took the culvert route. Because if it's full of water, the water has to go somewhere. He even knew which main river it connects to, and mentioned it offhand, his "Hunch" was probably just what he said because Hank is very protective of his image at work, and probably didn't want Gomez to know that he's A GIGANTIC NERD!

    Hank and Gomey will probably return in the Saul timeline, and Skyler will be arrested in the post El Camino Gene timeline (unless there isn't one because Gene's ending precedes El Camino events, the b/w Gene scenes don't include news of Walt's death/Jesse's escape although months had transpired since Saul's flight to Genedom, and Saul isn't mentioned as being sought in El Camino). ABQ ADA Ericson will be on the case. Lydia will recover and either escape (to Mexico with Ed?) or be interrogated/arrested. Kuby will be sought. Huell, Francesca, Badger, Pete, Old Joe will be arrested, as will Eliot and Gretchen. Maybe Jesse will return because Jesse's letter to Brock will be discovered and lead to his capture. Just speculating.
    Addenda:
    Upon viewing Vividkiwi's timeline I see that I missed it as revealed in Gene scenes, so El Camino events occur long enough before the b/w Gene scenes to allow for all of the characters' fates (escapes, captures, interrogations, arrests, trials, etc.) to be resolved during the months elapsed between El Camino events and the finale of BCS. Considering that El Camino happened some months after Saul's escape (and Walt's), why was Huell STILL in Albuquerque so long after Saul and Francesca fled? Huell had the payoff from loading Walt's money in the van with Kuby, Kuby must have taken his share and fled (Hank and Gomey tell Huell in the motel room that they're looking for Kuby), so why didn't Huell return to his home town (the one Saul had all the commendatory letters sent from to ADA Suzanne Ericson)? Huell must certainly be on Ericson's radar after Hank had questioned Huell, and Huell HAS a LOT of money presumably, which he must account for if found out, besides he was a party to a LOT of Saul's acts. Didn't Huell tell Hank and Gomey that he and Kuby had been hired by Saul to barrel Walt's money? I think so.

      @@xyzzyx5148 NO! That news scene in El Camino didn't give her name, and they said she was in 'critical condition', and since Walter TOLD Lydia on the phone that it was Ricin in her Stevia, Lydia would know what to tell the 911 emergency operator/ambulance/hospital and most certainly DID, otherwise how would she have gotten to the hospital, and if the doctors knew it was Ricin poisoning they would likely respond with the best known treatment. I'm speculating of course, but why else would they have said she was in critical condition rather than dead? As for why her name was withheld, how would they NOT know her name? Even IF Lydia said nothing about Walter White poisoning her, why did the news include THAT story (woman in critical condition from Ricin poisoning) WITH the DEA/ABQ news of the shootout, etc., as if the two events were connected (by Walter White's involvement in both the shootout and the poisoning)? I surmise that her name was withheld for a reason. Why? I don't know. Maybe to keep Saul/Gene, Jesse, etc., unaware that it was in fact Lydia, and that she was to be interrogated upon recovery.
