  • In this video, Sally Norton, a Health Coach and expert in Kidney Health discuss the impact of Oxalates on the body and how to maintain a healthy diet. Norton starts by introducing herself and discussing her background in Nutrition and Health Coaching. She then delves into the topic of Oxalates and how they can have negative effects on the body.
Norton discusses research by Dr. Jacob on Oxalates, as well as the role of the Kidneys in protecting the body from Oxalate buildup. She explains what Crystals are and why Kidney Stones are harmful. Norton then explains what Oxalates are, how they are metabolized by the body, and how they can contribute to Gut Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Hyperoxaluria.
Throughout the video, Norton emphasizes the importance of maintaining an Ionic balance in the body and avoiding high-oxalate foods. She provides tips for eating a low-oxalate diet and emphasizes the importance of eating seasonally and avoiding processed foods. Norton also discusses the impact of Polyphenols on the body and how they can affect the Microbiome.
In addition, Norton addresses common questions about Oxalates, such as why we don't feel different after eating high-oxalate foods and whether going Gluten-Free can help reduce Oxalate levels. She also discusses the results of studies on high-oxalate foods, including the effects of Spinach on rats and the impact of eating Strawberries.
Overall, Norton's video provides a comprehensive overview of the dangers of consuming too many Oxalates and offers practical tips for maintaining a healthy diet that supports Kidney Health. By understanding the role of Oxalates in the body and making conscious choices about what we eat, we can help protect our Kidneys and maintain optimal health.

Sadly, doctors are not even on board with the information, yet. The food industry, specifically the grain lobby and the pharmaceutical industry hold a lot of power. They make big money on the status quo. We've got to work to change it. You're right we need to be learning more about anti-nutrients in school. I learned about oxalate as an undergraduate in college nutrition, but there was no understanding of its hazards. Of course that was in the 1970s. Fast forward years later have eaten a High oxalate diet inadvertently, for years and given myself crystals in my kidney. So hopefully eventually this will be taught in all schools.

Heck, when we connected gluten to my daughter's UTIs, after finding son#2 was Celiac, the pediatric group didn't even want to know. When we found that same son has a gene for Reactive Arthritis (HLA B27), and that practice told us they were sorry, but there was nothing they could...then after 5yrs going down rabbit holes, we found out how to turn that gene off, they didn't want to know what we did. Mainstream big med is NOT about curing anything. If they did that, they'd lose money.

What I’ve come to realize is that people need their personal perceptions about health changed before their eating habits change. If they don’t understand or sense the dangers of eating poorly then they’ll never be convinced to change. For me …. It took a personal health issue to make me take it seriously. My perception was changed instantly! Unfortunately, like me, most will probably need to suffer before they understand the truth of their situation.

There's no such a thing as eating no oxalate, you can eat low oxalate, but it's impossible to avoid it completely! Not to mention that half of it's produced endogenously! The foods you mentioned is highly nutritious food, there's no reason to avoid it for fear of oxalates. If you have family members with kidneys stones, it would be sensible to eat less oxalate and make sure you get enough calcium. If consume a high calcium food after or before eating a high oxalate food, the oxalate will bind to the calcium in the intestine, and you're going to excrete it in your faeces. It will not get absorbed.

Maybe oxalates were better tolerated by our ancestors due to seasonal variations but today we can eat the same foods 24/7 365 days of the year, making the situation worse.
This kind of valuable information needs to be well and truly disseminated.
How many are eating.... and not joining the dots.
CGMs are all of the rage now, maybe in future there will be devices that will be available for detecting oxalates.
In Japan they reportedly have toilets that can analyse your excreted matter.

Only discovered due to nagging lower back pain and ensuing MRI.
Nothing done due to quack urologist telling me this was not the source of my pain. My kidney stone will not pass and will be a silent passenger for my lifetime. 😮
Fast forward, move to Florida and start sipping abundant fresh lemon and lime water all day, from my own trees.
Few years later, ER visit due to extreme lower abdominal pain, nausea, sweats, etc. Another MRI showed I now have two 1cm, and probably passing fragments. Apparently the stone was dissolving and breaking up!
I need to have the thing MRI'd again. I have had several bouts of passing fragments. I now just take Tylenol and walk it out. But I'd like to know the status. I no longer eat a lot of oxalate foods. Ocassional tea, and nuts only.

Then my question is qht does the body produce it ,it is a chelating agent it us a percusor to H2O2 ,it is intermediate in the reverse oroduction of glycine origin acid snd on and on it has use but yes too much exogenous oxalate probably isn't good

One criticism I've seen of this oxalate theory, is that eating a high animal protein diet is in and of itself likely to promote kidney stones. I'd love to see that addressed.

Completely the opposite. If you want to reverse gout completely you would go on an all meat diet. By the way, oxalates are well known to the medical/ animal husbandry community of decades gone by, its not a theory in the common sense but is theory in the science use of the word.

There are a ton of factors in the formation of kidney stones. Water intake, citrate, oxalate, magnesium, ph, phosphorus, calcium, sodium.

Alot of people dont know but a lot of calcium oxalate stones have calcium phosphate in the center. This is because oxalate hijacks the calcium phosphate stone and turns the outside of the stone into calcium oxalate.

Me to.... love berries but they should only be eaten in very small quantities and only when they are in season. Be cautious about berries.....

Love is only good if it's mutual. Unrequited love can be torture.

I just got off the phone with the Poison Control Hotline. Me: "Help! I have been poisoned!" PCH: "OMG! We are sending an ambulance immediately to your location. What specifically did you ingest and what are your symptoms?" Me: I had a kiwi fruit and feel pretty good." PCH: "I am not sure I understand your problem." Me: "I just watched a YT video that told me oxalates were a powerful and dangerous toxin." *sound of a dial tone*

I read a comment once that told of a friend who went to Asia (or s. Pacific?), drank a carambolafruit juice drink and died of kidney failure.
