  • I recently had the chance to Ride the 2022 Can-Am Rykers. They have made improvements over the first models that were made as they have done with the Spyders. After 4 plus years of riding a F3 I wanted to share my thoughts about riding on the new 2022 Rykers. I tried to keep an open mind and be fair when riding, but the outcome was a surprise. I honestly was expecting better. Watch the video to find out my thoughts.

    I bought the 22 rally. The rally edition has the comfort seat which does make a decent difference in comfort. I bought it for fun rides and some off roading. Plus it doesn't hurt the pocket as much as the spyder. My only real gripe with it is I wish they made a single gear shift. I wish they made an overdrive gear at about 40mph or so. If they could do that it would get way better gas mileage and it would not Rev as high at high speeds. Other than that I am happy with it. It's a quick commute that is fun and I have gone on some dirt roads to have some fun with it. It's more like a go-cart but a fast fun one that is also street legal so for me it's a win. I do like the spyder but it's expensive and I would loose out on off road so it's a no for me. Your comparison is fair. They are definitely different animals for sure. But I thought I would share why I went with the Ryker Rally.

      Thank you for sharing and agree the Rally is an advantage on dirt. I was still dissapointed with the vibration levels at around 60 on the Rally. Here in California the Rally models i have seen are not that far off in price compared to a low end F3. How much of a difference in your area? Thanks for sharing and support! Stay safe and ride happy!

    I’ve owned a Ryker 900 for a year. I’m looking to upgrade to an F3. Fatigue is the main reason. I rode 3 hours the other day and was wiped out. The ryker, on twisty roads, is work!

      You will love the change. It will be a huge difference. I have no health issues and every time i have rode on a ryker, about 30 min is enough for me. @charlesperry6408 You will love the change and hope you like it as much as I do mine. I am glad that they did not have the Ryker out when I was looking for a motorcycle. On look and price I probably would have really considered it. The affordability looks so good until you realize that you get what you pay for. The extra money/cost of the Spyder is truly well worth it.
      I am sorry to hear that you experienced the "buyers remorse" somewhat.

    They're 2 different bikes. You're completely wrong about a 600 not being able to do highway speeds. I take mine own the highway on a regular basis. I've taken it from Kansas to Illinois with not one problem. Was completely comfortable because you sit IN the bike Not on it. I get these are your opinions, but there are plenty of videos on CZcams of people taking there 600's on the highway. Coach Bob to name one did a really unbias review on the Ryker and he's had a Spyder RT since 2019. He had it longer than a few days also to give an honest comparison. So don't tell people that you can't take the 600 on the highway when it's been proven NUMEROUS times that just is untrue. I'm glad that you are a 3 wheel guy, but don't be putting down the ryker because it's not for you. You could be deterring someone from getting it because of your personal opinion on something you didn't have long enough to have a real opinion. The Spyder is like comparing a Corvette to a Camaro in the Ryker. So it's not really a fair comparison. If you want to do a comparison; compare the F3 to the RT.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Thank you for watching and feedback. I cant help that i dont like the Ryker and will still stand behind me saying i wouldnt recommend taking the 600 model on the Highway or interstate. Something that has only 50 some hp is not what I consider a safe thing to ride on an interstate, I would not recommend you take a moped/scooter out in interstate traffic and some have the same speeds and hp as the 600. I have riden all models and over a 2 week period now. I do hope I sway people to buy the Spyder over the Ryker because hands down it is a better motorcycle and yes it is the same. Y frame and three wheels, two in front and one in back. Made by the same company as well, so yes it is comparable. The"not able to compare" is a standard go to that i see for those that comment about they like the Ryker better. It is ok to not to like what I say, i get it! Not everyone cares for the Spyder, but if you want to reference youtube videos for comparing what i have said, I have noticed a lot of Ryker owners switching to Spyders within a year, that is also why you are able to buy them easier as well because they are not in as much demand. Also, if you are a CanAm ambassador and do a review of a ride they gave you to try out for free...... you in my opinion are being biased and not unbiased because you are being swayed to help sell that product. I am glad you stand behind your Ryker and feel this way. You should be proud of your decisions and not regret them. I am the same way about the Spyder. I dont have any sponsers by choice on my channel and am not swayed by becoming an Ambassador if they offered. My Channel is for my opinions and thoughts and hope it helps others when i put one out, that may be why i dont have many subscribers because others dont care for my opinions. The Ryker to me is like my video on the back tire issue...... You can buy a car tire/Ryker and yeah it might work for you. Is it a good Idea.. To me NO.
      Thanks again for watching and taking time to comment. All comments mean a lot to me that someone took the time to do it. I also want to encourage you to make a youtube channel and discuss the things you mentioned, help Sway others to the Ryker over the Spyder. That is what is great about youtube!

      I'm not going to sway anyone from buying a Spyder. They're AWESOME! I'm saying the Ryker is a Ryker and a Spyder is a Spyder. 2 different machines, made by BRP. So with the logic you're relaying, the Chevy Colorado and the Chevy Silverado are similar because they're both pickup trucks made by the same company. There's no comparison! Both fantastic trucks, but two different machines. Comparing the 600 to the 900 or the Rally makes more sense. I want to see more people on 3 wheels whether it's a Ryker or Spyder! I can appreciate that you speak so passionately about the Spyder, makes me happy that a 3 wheel brother is enjoying the road. I like them ALL honestly! Thanks for responding back. Much respect! Hope to see you on the road one day.

    Great that you were able to take the ryker out for a test ride! That windshield was bothering me watching!! I think Rally would be fun to have...so how long do the belts typically last on the F3's? Any idea?

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 2 lety +1

      I was able to test ride the ryker the first year it came out. They have improved it a lot in 2022. That windshield was ssoooooooooo aggravating!
      There are so many factors that can cause a belt to wear out or last long. Is it garage kept or outside all the time. What kind of climate you ride in, etc. Yours will wear out faster than mine because of how many miles you have on it and how much you have rode. I would for sure have it checked at 50k miles or 5 years. Consider replacing probably at 70k and I would not recommend going over 100k with it but that is just an opinion.

    I owned my 22 Ryker Rally for a year and a half and put 5k miles on it. It was a lot of fun. I recently traded it in on a new F3 Limited and the difference is night and day. The transmission on the F3 is so much better than the Rykers CVT. The difference in comfort is also significant. I can ride a lot farther with less fatigue on the F3.

      Thank you for the comment and support! I appreciate you saying that and commenting about it. I tried really hard to be fair/kind on this video but it was hard to. You are so right about night and day. I personally think the Ryker was a mistake for Can Am because they have such a unique 3 wheel setup, they should never focus on cheap but focus more on the quality and comfort. It is fun but as you experienced the joy goes away and you are probably getting more enjoyment from the Spyder. I Thank you a lot for commenting as I try to help others and this made me feel more like I am not saying the wrong things in the video or misleading others.

      @@MOABMAN I understand, once you get used to a certain level, you can't go backwards. To keep it simple so everyone understands, you can't go from a PS5 to a PS3. You can like games on your PS3 but, if there was a PS5 version, you would not go back to PS3. I can see the Rally vs the F3 base as more PS3 vs PS4, but it's still the same argument. For anyone who hasn't driven a Spyder, the comfort level and AT should be fine for them. The Ryker serves a very important niche and is a good product to funnel in new customers.

    @MrBTRDAYZ Před 2 lety +2

    Seems like a shame to call out the Ryker for a 3rd party screen that doesn't come stock on the Ryker. Having ridden both, there are a number of reasons to prefer a Spyder over the Ryker, such as: Styling of the tubular frame. More comfortable for 2-Up riding. Potentially more storage space. However, the Ryker, thanks to easily swapped panels, is a quick change artist making customization a breeze. The Ryker with its lighter weight and lower stance, can outhandle a Spyder when roads get twisty. With its lighter weight, the Ryker should also be able to stop in a shorter distance, making it more possible to avoid hitting something you're trying to avoid. While the Ryker doesn't have power assisted steering like the Spyder, the lighter weight of the Ryker makes power assist less necessary as well. While the Spyder offers more power and might feel a bit faster than the Ryker, it's also heavier.
    Ryker 900
    616lbs dry
    77hp
    8lbs per hp
    Spyder F3
    899lbs dry
    105hp
    8.56lbs per hp
    Since each of the Spyder's horses have to carry extra weight, the Spyder will never run away from the Ryker. I agree with the complaint about the CVT transmission overrevving at low speeds. My Honda daily commuter car does the same and I hate it. However, the transmission in a Spyder is a slushbox automatic with paddle controls. It can be shifted manually, but with all the delays that comes with paddle shifted autos. A dual clutch transmission (not offered on any Can Am) would be a far superior choice for shifting, with more immediate response. Considering all that, the complete simplicity of the Ryker for both new riders as well as folks who want to be lazy, OR do not want to think about shifting requirements in an emergency situation, is a great solution.
    I do feel that if one is mostly committed to 2-Up long distance riding, its far more sensible to get the Spyder. Accessorizing the Ryker for 2-Up riding as well as storage capacity, helps, but is far less satisfying than the Spyder. However, for mostly 1-Up riding and enjoying sporting riding, the Ryker is a far better choice than the Spyder.

      Thank you for the wonderful comment and feedback. My response is purely just a response and not meant to push back or counter what you say as you had great comments.
      I will respond basically in the order of mention on your comments. The windshield was actually a factory add on, because i asked to ensure i didnt mention it if it was a 3rd party as that would have been unfair. That thing was horrible either way!
      I do like the ease of customization for sure on a Ryker especially on foot peg adjustment. I actually found the handling worse on the Ryker due to vibration and the non power steering but that was my feel and completely understand when others feel that it handles better. The lack of power assisted steering made you use more force than you do in the Spyder and to me the Spyder F3 feels way better in the twisties. You sit more in it so a Ryker will seem to handle better to inexperienced riders. This is truly a personal preference for everyone.
      The braking, of course i wasnt able to do measuring and speed test braking, but find both are very impressive on braking distance and response so really didnt notice any big difference.
      For get up and go is the only thing i do have to disagree with you on for sure. The Spyder in sport or with a pedal commander to me out does a Ryker for sure. I wasnt impressed with the speed response It is good but wasnt impressive as everyone says. I have no trouble with any F3 i have rode in getting it to speed quickly. The RT is a different matter. The torque is better in the Spyder and that is truly what gives you the get up and go.
      Again thanks for the response and hope you enjoyed the video!

      I wanted to be fair in the comparrison and rode the 900, Rally, F3, and RT on the exact same path. Both Ryker models had to much vibration for me and no issues on the Spyders. If you have the chance to do the same type of comparrison i would recommend doing it. I now understand why people trade in the Rykers for a Spyder. I am glad you have not had the same experience i did on a Ryker but unfortunately this is what i experienced. My decision came down to suspension feel and the cost to get a Ryker or an F3 to the point that I could use it for light touring. I was fully planning on going with the Ryker Rally, and my wife said “there’s no way that I or the kids are getting in that thing” when I first showed it to her. The suspension feel was ok with just me getting on it, but clearly wouldn’t handle much more weight on it without bottoming out. 2-up definitely wouldn’t be an option, and even adding touring bags and luggage would probably result in a less-than-ideal ride.

    I appreciate and respect your efforts and opinions, but people looking to buy one or the other machine, that you compare, have a tendency to take opinions as Gospel regardless of your statements as being opinion only. We all have our own opinions. They are not fact or stats. I feel accurate comparisons should be done with facts and statistics and not opinions. I never place much stock in opinions since we all see things differently, but some potential buyers do. These two machines are like comparing apples and oranges ( as in another comment below ). They are on different levels with each having their own specific traits/best suited purposes , as you mention, but it should be stressed about the big difference in price, weight, size, etc., as you also show. Personal test riding for a good amount of time is the best way to find one's favorite. You make some statements that I feel need more explanation. There are no specific rules for uses or types of riding for these machines. Whatever turns one's crankshaft. Even on highways - Ryker 600 about a 97 mph top speed, Ryker 900 ACE 107 mph top speed, F3T with about a 118 mph top speed, which should be sufficient for any of them on highways ( as some riders do so even with the Ryker 600 without issue ) and in comfort in their minds. The power to weight ratios are very close for both (1 : 0.121 for F3T, and 1 : 0.133 for Ryker 900 ) with the Ryker having a slight edge. You compare your F3 having a "pedal commander and in sport mode" to being pretty equal to a Ryker 900 ( that's cheating ). That is not comparing stock to stock machines as most will be purchasing, especially new. You attribute the Ryker 900's quicker acceleration to the drive shaft yet engineering and physics state that a shaft drive actually robs horse power over a belt or chain drive so that is not why the Ryker accelerates quicker. It is in the design of the engine power delivery, tuning, and type of CVT drive system. The F3T rides better due to it's 300 pound heavier weight. The Can-Am windshield offering is distorted toward the sides ( as is my wife's that I cut down about 1 1/2" at the top ) but the claimed ( and I agree ) ideal windshield height for motorcycles is such that one's eye level is a bit above the top of the windshield for a clear unobstructed view, yet still lessening or eliminating helmet buffeting by deflecting wind over the rider. I don't think the Ryker 900 is over revving at 45 mph when it's top speed is around 107 mph as claimed by some even though it may sound that way ? Components are cheaper ( less fancy or capable ) on the Rykers but so is the price with our 2021 left over Ryker 900 costing $10,500 + Tx + registration ( Feb. of 2022 ), which is a lot less than a 2021 base F3 that also has a lack of storage space, or even our 2016 F3T that cost more used about 3 1/2 yrs. ago.. My wife ( 5'7" at 117 pounds ) has no trouble with the steering so I don't see that as a major issue since the Ryker is once again, 300+ pounds lighter. Facts and stats present a much better valid comparison for unknowledgeable people to base their interests and purchases on.

      @@MOABMAN If the Ryker and F3 are the same then do you consider a Chevrolet Suburban and Equinox the same ? Both are Chevies, both have 4 wheels, both steer the same, both are SUV's, both are 4 x 4 or AWD, etc., etc. Is a Mustang the same as an F-150 ? This is what is meant by Apples and Oranges. The same items in many aspects, yet not. Even BRP states that the Rykers are a different machine from Spyders. I respect your opinions on both machines but they come across more as a Ryker put down than a factual side by side comparison, which I realize you did in the beginning of your vid, which you obviously spent a lot of time on. You also listed plenty of disclaimers in the info section so I hope I was not too strong in my reply. I may be misunderstanding your intentions a bit, but too many decisions these days are made based on opinions and views instead of facts and truths so as a buyer I may be swayed due to lack of actual first hand knowledge. I personally do not care for the Spyder RT models based on size, styling, performance, handling and so on, therefore I lean more toward the sportier F3 models ( I love my 2016 F3T ) and Rykers ( I get more of a thrill riding my wife's Ryker 900 ), as well as motorcycles ( last bike was a 2008 Kawasaki ZX14 Ninja that I sold about 3 years ago ). That is just me, but I would never tell someone I don't like RT's for this reason or that because there are those who love the RT's and that is their preference. I appreciate this dialog with you, which tells me you are understanding/forgiving, and human. A couple things I see with the two. first the belt drive is faster not slower than shaft the F3 should be great on gravel and dirt however 99% of the belts on all CanAm units are set way too tight there should be generous slack which will lengthen the life and forgiveness of the belt. I also agree I hate looking through the windshield so I normally cut them down so I look over the top I personally do not like the power assist steering as you lose feel in the corners. In general you are spot on the Ryker is the economy ride fun for around town much like a sportbike and the F3 is the commercial blend along with the RT.

      Thank you for the comment and awesome one at that! Everyone says the ryker is faster but i just dont see or feel it. The initial throttle response is quicker on the Ryker but if you have the F3 in any mode other than ECO it feels just as quick on the respone to me. So the shaft is supposed to be more reliable but you are correct that it does not make it quicker. Thanks again for the comment and hope you enjoy the videos!!!

    Great video.. I have had a 2019 rally for 2.5 years and you hit on my biggest complaint and that is the CVT… I hate the CVT (transmission) first i cant shift and secondly it holds super high rpms. If i could get a ryker with a 6 speed transmission i would be super happy. But that doesnt exist so im looking at spyder options.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem

      2.5 years on a Ryker is pretty impressive so you earned your seat time and definitely deserve the upgrade!!😁Every model i have rode on the Ryker, has a "popping" noise when starting out too which is due to the CVT. It is a horrible sound to me. After about 10 -15 mins i was done with the high rev sound while going 40 ( and the video really didnt do it justice on how loud). I love going fast and love a high revved engine but only when there is a reason its revved high, so thank you for letting me know im not the only one! After riding several different models now and having a couple hours seat time with the Ryker, i see both why people like them, and why people trade them. Hope you get your Spyder you will like the curves a lot more now!!! Thanks for the comment and support!

    Great comparison, I got a Ryker Rally last spring and have really enjoyed it, its fun but all the shortcomings you mention are true. Last weekend my dealer did a demo ride and I got to rider a Spyder for the first time. Much better ride, loved the power steering , it handles bumps etc way better than the Ryker, and is a lot more comfortable to ride, I spent the extra to get the comfort seat on my Rally but can only ride about 90 minutes before my butt hurts and I want to get off. I plan to trade my Rally in next spring when my dealer can get me a F3S.
    Thanks for all the great content, its greatly appreciated.

      I tried my best to be fair but honest. I was hoping for better results when i rode but was sadly dissapointed. It is a shame too because i do like the looks and there is a lot of potential there. This was one of the hardest videos i had to do, not for editing but for how to be honest and not just slam a product. Thank you for the comment and feedback as I was hoping it was not just me that experienced it this way. I hope you get a good trade in and hate to hear that you are in this situation of wanting to trade after just buying it. After about 5 minutes into the ride i understand completey why people trade them in though for a Spyder. Hope you get a great deal and i think you will be way happier with the Spyders! How soft can you get the shocks?

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 2 lety

      This is hard to answer as there is not really a measurement so to say for softness. There are 4 settings for adjustment. I have riden Rykers a few times but didn't have the chance to really put the adjusting to the test. I have changed the settings on the Rally to see the difference and here is what I thought. Changing from 1 directly to 4 you can notice a little difference but it is not a "wow, that's unbelievable" difference. When you have a passenger or a load is when the stiffer suspension helps and makes a difference. I think the softer suspension helps a "little" but to me didn't really feel that huge of a change. The Ryker (to me) shakes and vibrates so much that you really don't notice the extra softness when you adjust it. Hope this answer helped.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem

      To me they are not that different, same Y frame, same company manufacturer, same concept, etc. To many things similar to say they are different to me. If it was a two wheel or different company i would be more cautious for a comparrison. I tried very hard to be fair in the review. The Rally price is not that much lower than the base F3 so the costs are starting to be similar as well. Thank you for the comment and support.

    • @sxtsxt6714
      @sxtsxt6714 Před rokem

      You are right. You really can’t compare the two…. I own (currently) both of them. The 2022 Ryker 900 and the 2022 Spyder F3S-Special Series. The Ryker is more peppy and more fun. The Spyder is awesome in its own way. The Spyder is definitely more faster but the Ryker is much more quicker and has more torque. If you’re going to do more highway than city or around town riding get the Spyder, but if you’re going to do more city and around town than the highway most definitely get the Ryker…… and don’t forget the Spyder is twice the price.

  • @SpyderWayne
    @SpyderWayne Před 2 lety +1

    Very well done, the Ryker certainly looks fun for off roading. I believe it is a smart strategy for BRP, introducing a fun machine at a an attractive price, with the strategy that many Ryker owners will later choose the Spyder as a natural upgrade for their next ride. Great overview and honest opinions in this video 😁👍👍

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem

      Hello, and thanks for watching and comment. The shifter is on the left side but i have heard that they are able to make adjustments to fit special needs as that is one of the great things about the Spyder so it may be able to be moved to the right side. You do have to shift up but the Spyder automatically shifts down for you which it sounds like that will not be of help to you much. The Ryker is the only one that does not require shifting but you still have to pull a lever to go into reverse. You will probably get a better idea of what can be done if you reach out to a dealer and they can discuss what can be rearranged as far as shifting and throttle. I hope this helped and please dont be afraid to contact BRP or a dealer because i have read and seen where they can change things around to help with things like this. Let me know what you find out as well if you want to, i would be interested in seeing what you were able to have done.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem +1

      To me not that great. The best improvement for vision at night was the led headlight replacement of the factory bulbs. I bought the fog lights for the accent more than anything. Bought them from slingmods. I have had to replace the left one three times now because the main bulb keeps going out. I think it may be something on the bike that causes it because it is always the left one. I quit replacing them and just use the snake eye part for accent and looks. I will eventually replace them with something completely different in the next year hopefully. I hope yours will work better. I am also replacing the headlight housing all together with the new led lights that came out and will have a video out soon on it.
