Building the Ugliest 3D printer

- This is a bit different than my usual. I've been working on 3D printers for almost a decade at this point. I like to call myself an expert, but really that doesn't matter. What does matter is that I know a thing a two about a thing or two. This channel isn't just about car stuff, the original name was more broad. Its always been about things I found cool or neat. And I certainly think my 3D printing journey is one of those things. This video series will chronicle the fourth iteration of my custom Bedslinger. Starting with getting it running, eventually this will bleed into the other weird stuff I've gotten up to with it: like DIY mag beds, Manuel gcode shenanigans, custom heat blocks, maybe non planar printing, and eventually I want to build my own screw extruder. I estimate a significant portion of the Sonett will be 3D printed by the time I am done with it.

Nice work!
Nice job, mate! Congrats on a finished project.
Cool stuff man, I've been there too. Designing printers can be fun :)
Thanks! The hardest part about this is accurately documenting everything, every project supersedes the last. “This is my Magnum Opus, no this is my Magnum Opus.” This got eclipsed immediately, lol.
I work with industrial 3D printers and I have an Elegoo Neptune 2 and I don't know if I should build one or buy a new 3D printer, I know it's fun but man, I work with 3D printers every day and I think when I get home I have to do something else but I really want to build one.
If you work with printers daily you probably already know the big con of building a one-off printer. There's no support, when it breaks or you discover some previously unconsidered flaw there's no one to blame but myself, LOL. My machine's greatest oversight is the placement of the hot end fan relevant to the extrusion behind it ends up directing the air at my print resulting in an unwanted cooling effect, so ABS has been splitting pretty regularly. Swapping the fan orientation results in the same thing with the hot side acting as a duct. It's just something I have to work around. When I finally get to adding a dual extruder system and airbrush compressor as a parts cooler I'll fix it. The way I'm considering packaging that all would put the hotends sideways and hopefully have a clear path for air. That's all part of the fun for me, hot rodding this thing is supposed to keep me busy enough that I don't feel the need to build a VZbot, we’ll see how long I hold out. I find the current generation of off-the-shelf printers pretty lackluster, I'd say go for it, build one!
Guess what? I already make my saab start and ru 😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉
Long time no see. That's awesome! Safe to say you beat me to it. Lol. So, where's the pictures.
