Rocky George the most underrated guitarist in punk/thrash
Yes Sir
Larry St.Amant 100%
@Johnny Nonuts Yeah, I wonder how many takes he actually had to do to get down the solos and leads in the studio.
Damn straight!!!!
💯 Rocky George is my favorite guitarist of all time. The feeling I get when I hear him is something special.
This song was so important to me back in the day. I was serving in the Marines overseas and caught so much SHIT for being black and loving metal. I caught shit in high school but it got taken up a notch in the service. I never blame the Corps, just the assholes at the time who had small minds. Suicidal was even more important to me because of Rocky George. Seeing that brother throw down inspired me to keep practicing and tune out the fuckwits.
Man bro, you kept your head up and kept going! Thank you for service!
...can't bring you down 🕊️
My dad was a marine, so respect!
Does Vin know how coincidental his Pepsi cheer was?
All he wanted was a Pepsi
@@ThanagosWoW Just one Pepsi.
@@fen3184
And she won't give it to him
It doesn't matter, Vin’ll probably get hit by a car anyway
We’ll have to see if he drinks Pepsi in other videos or just this one. Something to keep an eye out for in the future.
Rocky F******* George - Most baddest underrated guitarist ever!
Fucking hell!! Rocky is a monster on that instrument! Everyone was going nuts over Metallica and shit but this dude was straight destroying it!
I jam sorry?! And surf and slam all the time!
@@tryten9 He doesn't get the recognition he deserves
He's rocking in Fishbone now.
A beast! One of my all time favs.
@@marktourtillott1865 Rocky left about 6 months ago. Memo to Cyco Miko - BRING ROCKY HOME
Metallica's bassist Rob Trujillo was in this band.
Isuru Nanayakkara
Also infectious groove
And now Dave Lombardo is in it !
And Ben Weinman from Dillinger Escape Plan is touring with them in a fill in role
Don't you mean Suicidal Tendencies bassist joined Metallica after being offered a stupid signing on bribe?
I just saw Metallica for 3rd time at Penn's college a couple months ago
mega important band. Glad you finally got to it. A very unique and trailblazing band that fused punk, thrash and inspired a ton of bands to follow.
The quintessential Suicidal Tendencies song is "Institutionalized" though, which is a much listen.
Glad you guys enjoyed this, was nice to see a different band that wasn't a patreon pick. Speaking of which, you guys owe us 3 patreon picks this week :)
Khellendross Murhafuckas act like they forgot about DRI
@@fendranm2914 DRI and Bad Brains are two other important pieces of this whole crossover puzzle.
Institutionalized is definitely a must
Khellendross I keep wanting Vin to hear Soul Craft because of the nu-metal angle, but I Against I is more popular. Hmmmm...
Also, Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer
Bad Brains ain't Metal.
Bad Brains fucking Rule!!!
Banned In DC!
F.V.K.!!!
I Against I
I
Sacred Love!
But Suicidal is one of my favorite Thrash Bands (from '88 to '91)
This ain't Crossover. This is Thrash. Join The Army was crossover.
How can I laugh tomorrow when I can't even smile today?
I dunno, maybe today was boring and tomorrow had something funny happened?
Great suggestion, along with Institutionalized, Send Me Your Money, Trip At The Brain, War Inside My Head, etc....
Great song
Great song
my favorite album when i was 13-15,so many memories
Suicidal Tendencies is a polarizing band. Some metalheads love them some hate them...some punk fans love them some hate them. I have always been a fan. They have a lot of great songs and their first album is a punk masterpiece. Suicidal often had the tag of gang/skater culture that was frowned upon by society.
I've never met a metalhead who hated them. Maybe it was different in the UK.
I have been a fan of them both as a punk and a metal band. I think one of the problems for some is that ST did not come from the same white, working class background as most thrash and punk bands, but were much closer to hip-hop in their lyrics due to their background. And, yes, Rocky George is one of the best guitarists in the genre.
@JezBollah 667 um no. Got a lot to strighten out there...
they were part of a skater gang. they denied it though. if you ever saw the movie Lords Of Dogtown thats basically the group that the blond skater joins when he starts acting like a cholo. Thats based in the same area the band was from.
@@davedagreat69 Not in this part of the UK, I first came acoss them when they opened the clash of the titans tour in 91. Opened with this song and blew the rest of the bands off stage- no mean feat given that was Testament Megadeth and Slayer!
Rocky George is such an underrated guitarist.
Mike Clark!!!
@@bschuler6216 Mike is a frickin riff master and Rocky plays with so much passion. This was a dream team!
@@suprchickn7745 EXACTLY. This band was firing on all cylinders. I honestly think the only metal band that came close was Megadeth on Holy Wars or Anthrax on Fueled.
Send Me Your Money. Bomb song that speaks about the hypocrisy of televangelists like Jim Bakker or Robert Tilton. It would be very interesting to see your take on that one. Love this band!
Todd Dean that would be great
Great song and I'd really like to see their reaction to that!
Yup, defo this song next!
Spiritual Healing!
They have done it. It was ST, so it was awesome!!
The bassist that is NOW with MetallicA is Rob Trujillo, who was Sucidals bassist at the time this song came out. Awesome track
Hail Rocky George! One of my fave guitarist in the scene. Legend
They’re talking about the cops and politicians after they got banned from from LA
They were basically banned for the way they dressed and accused of gang affiliations.
I think it was for "I shot reagan". It was really not PC enough for a title.
Fyodor Karamazov Id do it again and again and again and again and agaaaainnnn!!!!!!
@@vitusdoom Right on haha
Awesome. Now Vin needs to do Institutionalized.
Absolutely, especially after the unknowing Pepsi cheer.
Chaotic Old Bore the best part he was drinking a Pepsi 😂
They have better songs like
Waking The Dead
Lovely
The Feeling's Back
How Will I Laugh Tomorrow..?
Sorry?!
One Too Many Times
Pledge Your Allegiance
Alone
Go'n Breakdown
B schuler no love for the first album man? that’s where it all started
How bout I saw your mommy?!
Awesome! I'm glad you guys finally got to them.
The best ST line up. Rocky George ripping solos off over everything.
Magic!
Mike Clark!!!
Suicidal Tendencies- How Will I Laugh Tomorrow...
Such a great song and album
Rocky George was fantastic for this band... its a shame he quit...
Finally Suicidal Tendencies!!!
Getting closer and closer to punk. This song is like mixing Pantera with punk attitude.
K Zed more closer to thrash like the big 4 mixed old hardcore punk but that’s still a good analogy.
@@Boreal_Fiend just talking about the band in general. They had a good amount of punk influence as well as thrash and hardcore depending on the album
K Zed nah i gotcha man no worries. but to be fair they were making music well before Pantera decided to go tough guy and make the metal albums they’re known for. seems like everyone always forgets their glam metal days lol
The intro guitar its like cementery Gates from Pantera
This came out the same year that Pantera finally manned up with Cowboys From Hell. But Pantera ain't got shit on ST. This is Thrash done right.
Yeah, yeah i know Suicidal was hardcore punk/crossover, but after Join The Army, ST perfected their Thrash sound with How Will I Laugh Tomorrow..? & Feel Like Shit/Dejá Vú.
Grab a Pepsi and check out institutionalized
Killer song! Did Vin take a drink Pepsi just one Pepsi
But she wouldn't give it to me
Finally!!...Thanks guys...You should check more Suicidal Tendencies songs, not only because of the lyrics but to discover the great guitarrist they have....Rocky George was one of the best....
Mike Clark!!!
I appreciate that such a great discussion was sparked by one of my all time fav songs. Will never get old.
I LOVE Suicidal Tendencies, play the song send me your money... I say Hi from Ecuador - Guayaquil.
Now do "How will I laugh tomorrow?"
alright some good crossover! now we’re getting somewhere on the punk
Get them to react to DK
i would love to see them react to Drug Me just for a novelty lmao. on a real note they should most definitely do Kill the Poor, Let’s Lynch the Landlord or California Über Alles.
This is straight Thrash, though!!!
And it kicks the shit outta Institutionalized!!!
B schuler that’s fair man but i feel there’s still definitely some minor punk influences going on here. their self titled is a fantastic album tho, you can’t rival the young explosive energy they had on that album. they may not have perfected the craft of playing their instruments but damn it they wanted to play fast and be pissed off and they most definitely achieved that.
@@Boreal_Fiend Also, other than Mike, the band that played on their first album is completely different than the band playing here in 1990. Mike Clark & Rocky George made a huge difference.
I do love their first album too.
Subliminal!
Possessed!
I just happen to prefer their '88-'90 output.
Cheers!
Suicidal Tendencies, particularly this song, got me through some tough times after a suicide attempt and a 6 month stay in a psychiatric hospital. Also a song by Metal Church called Badlands...y'all should react to that one too, it's quite inspiring.
Fake Healer!
Rocky George on guitar. It's like an endless solo. The bassist on this is now the bassist for Metallica.
ST for life!! these guys got me through my teen years. I cannot put into words how much this band means to me. almost every song is about being yourself and being proud of yourself for who you are. it was my shield vs anyone who said anything to me in school. bullies had no effect.
Standing ovation
Great discussion fam
Thank you for being open enough to experience this song! It is empowering to many people no matter what beliefs you have.
Great song choice! I grew up on these guys. They get overlooked far to often.
New theme song for middle America :)
The P.M.R.C was the enemy back in the day. Most rap and metal had songs pertaining to it. The P.M.R.C is the reason that we have the parental warning on cd's and such.
been waiting for you to do this
hell yes 🤘🤘
Skid Row - Quicksand Jesus
Oh, HELL YES!
Omg love that song
"You're the most Christ-like atheists I've ever met"
"You're the most atheistic Christians I've ever met"
Best. Exchange. Of Compliments. EVER.
Damn spot on guys. It was a turbulent time. Great analysis Vin, keep up the great insites.
Good video guys! You're making total sense.
Institutionalized - Suicidal Tendencies ''pate attention to the lyrics clearly''
Love
Hearing the intro for the first time live when they toured with Queensryche.
Just awesome.
This is such a cool song! I love the mellow intro, then the buildup and then WHAM, MIKE MUIR!!
you guys should check out Institutionalized by Suicidal Tendencies
Wow, finally. I was wondering when you all would get to this band! Love your after discussion as always. Would still sometime love to have a chat with you two, I have lots of ideas on the current climate of by trying to create a more accepting society, we are only ending up creating more division. Peace and love, and a little extra for the bun in the oven!
ST & Excel are amazing crossover bands, check out D.R.I. too... Cheers for this one!
After the 1983 release of their iconic self-titled debut album, Suicidal got banned from playing shows in their Los Angeles hometown because of “gang relations and violence”. However, around 1989, after the band had risen in popularity, the ban was lifted and Suicidal have continued playing live in L.A. since then.
You all are amazing. I'm so happy I found you. Smart and crispy
"You wouldn't know what crazy was if Charles Manson was eating fruit loops on your front porch" Easily one of the greatest lines in metal ever.
ST!!!!!!!
My youth!

ST4L. Been a fan since 86, just saw them again a year ago
4:36 lol vin drinking Pepsi while listening to ST. ALL I WANTED WAS A PEPSI!
"Trip at the Brain" next please
Some of the most insightful ST lyrics \m/
Anthrax - In the End, In My World, Indians, Inside Out and What Doesn't Die
Melvin Andrade yes an infinite amount my friend!
Get it done Vin & Sori!
And Starting up a Possy
JayBagent Great Tipper Gore song
Robert Trujillo that's in Metallica now. Was the bass player for suicidal tendencies
Such aa great song. Attitude plus.
I totally agree with Vin on the ideas vs personal attacks thing.
Favorite band in highschool. Still love it. Great video
Check out a band called MINOR THREAT- Guilty of being white. Its a song that has had so much controversy behind it. Please please please
They really should react to their discography since its so short.
@@deadliestassassin3092 filler and seeing red are good too.
@Larry St.Amant hell yeah!!! I play those songs on guitar once in awhile. Along with Small Man Big Mouth, Minor Threat, Straight Edge. When i'm pissed off basically lol.
Didn't Slayer do a cover of this on Undisputed Attitude.
Edit: yes they did.
@@deadliestassassin3092 I have the blue sleeve a friend has the red
Hey vin and sori I haven’t clicked on a video so quick in my life! The bass player is Robert Trujillo which is now the bass player from Metallica 🤘
This band is so legendary classic, I had to come back to jam to it again a year later with Vin & Sori
Thank you guys
Great tune! A real classic. Tell em' what's up Rocky!!!
Can't ever get past the dual guitar attack of Rocky George and Mike Clark
1000000% agree.
Mike Clark was the best thing to ever happen to this band. No offense to the legendary Rocky!
@@bschuler6216 His riffs and his songs were sublime. The man is a legend.
Solid song. Great discussion afterwards
I'm 44 now. Still remember how that song helped me through tough times when I was 16.
love your vids guys you should do how will I laugh tomorrow well worth it for all the head bangers
by the same band :') haha
Sorry?!
The Feeling's Back
Waking The Dead
Y'all should do how will I laugh tomorrow
Very nice that you listened to the whole song before you cut in with your take. Great stuff.
Wow, i didn't see a Suicidal song coming from you guys, well done for sure. How many beers have been sunk listening to this song!
Omfg. I'm a big Suicidal Tendencies fan!!I feel like most any song of of "Controlled by Hatred, Feel like shit....Deja Vu" would have been a been a better introduction
. Like " How can I Laugh Tomorrow, When I Can't Even Smile Today?". Mike Muir was a very troubled soul at that point, and did an epic job of putting his feelings into words. The lyrics are soooo deep on the whole album. You SOOOO should check out "How can I laugh tomorrow, when I can't even smile today?"
Waking The Dead!!!
Sepultura - Dead Embryonic Cells!
Morning coffee, before I roll out. Awesome video as always, enjoy yourselves and be well!
The song "Give us Revolution" from the alvum Lights...Camera...Revolution, has a line, "We'll bow down to no other one, except the Father and his Son, they can't deny what he's created..." Mike Muir's lyrics have changed drastically over the years, but ST has had religious underpinnings in several songs...also my favorite band.
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES! Lights Camera Revolution is a great album also. Send me your money has to be next. Jesus is the only way, but send me your money is about TV evangelists who wanted all that money. Tammy Faye Baker
Jimmy is still trying to swindle the ignorant faithful.
I also saw some holy rollin' schmuck trying to sell vials of miracle water. A swindler and a sucker are born every day. Capitalize on it--It's the American Way!
The PMRC sucked yesterday and sucks today
@Sebastian I started at 4 with punk in 77. 79 with motorhead and the thrash scene with manpower etc. but the80s- 90s because of the PMRC trying to sensor was the rise of hardcore out from the undergound. So in a away they only kicked the Hornets nest
@Sebastian I hear ya.
@Sebastian my first album was the sex pistols in 77 got into led zeppelin, iron maiden, Judas priest etc. when I was 12-13.
Tipper Gore Al Gore's wife started the PMRC. They were not right wing. I was in high school when they started putting parental advisory labels on music. As a teenager that made you more interested in buying the CD
@@eramos9980 I remember all started when she first went after Twisted Sister. And when Dee testified he blew that bitch and those guys with no balls out the water.
First saw ST in 1990 on UK leg of Clash of Titans tour. Started with this track. Best 30/40 mins ever. ST for life!
This brings back memories of 1990-1991, when I was in the Far East serving with the US Marine Corps at the beginning of the Gulf War. Listening to ST and other metal bands kept me going during that time. Thank you for reacting to this song!
perfect!! now Nuclear Assault!!!
YESSS!!!!!! Finally, an actual all time favorite of mine! Tehe, hi guys. - Mickey
Great video guys .
Let's not forget one of the most underrated guitarists Rocky George the shredding melodic beast! They are such a cool band.
Gojiraaaaaa - Of blood and salt
Anthrax!!! - Among the Living, Indians, A Skeleton in the Closet, Euphoria...
The Contortionist - Language I
The Black Queen - Ice to Never
Hello there, react to Lost Horizon - Highlander (The One). One of my favorite Power Metal singers Daniel Heiman, he is just incredible!. Lost Horizon where a Progressive Power Metal band from Sweden and only released two albums in early 2000
Biohazard - punishement
Wrong Side Of The Tracks!!!
To me the bible is a fairytale book, but I never try to shove my opinion down anyone’s throat. Never tried to convince anyone. But I lost count of how many times people tried to convince me that Jesus is the only savior
rjacamargo I’m the other way around. Totally convince he is the only way
Yeah many of those people were brainwashed into it at a young age like me. People dont realize how hard it is to let go of what youre continuesly being told whats right. It took me a LOT of questions, open mindedness, reading, and also courage to abandon but now im much more content. I felt like i found my true self and cant imagine going back into Christianity.
So glad you did Suicidal Tendencies(love this band).
Ahh...haven't heard ST in decades. feelsgoodman. Such an awesome band, glad you got a taste.
Lovely.... lalalalala..lovely

Hell yeah! I was obsessed with SxTx back in highschool! This reminded me that I need to get back into them. Rocky George is an AMAZING guitarist!
One of the best bands of the '80s! We grew up on this stuff and it sounds just as relevant today. Good job guys!
You reviewed suicidal. I'm back in
Dave Lombardo of Slayer fame is the new drummer for ST. Robert Trujillo of Metallica used to be in ST.
Just saw them for free at Van's in Brooklyn last Summer with Dave. Badass!

Institutionalised! You've got to do it... you've already got a Pepsi, so it's time...
Oh. I hope you had the official video on in the background for this one, but rewatch it if you didn't. That way you can fully appreciate the change when you see the official video for Institutionalised.
All he wanted was a Pepsi. Just one Pepsi...
Ice ts band body count or the biohazard song punishment please
Body Count is great! From Cop Killer to Blood Lust. Biohazard is good too. Wrong Side Of The Tracks!!!
Sick Of It All is badass too!
They had released a record called, "Feel Like Shit.. Deja Vu" back in '89.. that didn't go over so well with the 'powers that be' back then.. eventually lead to them being banned in L.A. and hence, this amazing song!!
Wow just came from a run, remembered you guys, how I haven't seen any videos from you guys in forever, I mean you stopped showing up in my home page (that long) came back unlocked my tablet and there you are
