  • Do stereotypes usefully represent real knowledge or merely reflect counter-productive prejudice? We know that a disproportionate number of criminals in the USA are black and that the vast majority of anti-Western terrorists are Muslim. In light of these facts, racial profiling (a sub-species of stereotyping) appears to be a rational and ethically justified act of self-defense. But is this a “post hoc ergo propter hoc” fallacy? In other words: does racial profiling cause the very ills it is intended to counter? Hardly likely.
Stereotypes invariably refer in a generalized manner to - often arbitrary - groups of people, usually minorities. Stereotypes need not necessarily be derogatory or cautionary, though most of them are. The "noble savage" and the "wild savage" are both stereotypes.

I responded half way through before finishing my listen and this is a good reminder on why we should listen all the way through before responding!
Your argument is so thorough and evaluates almost every perspective one could have on these subjects that I’m floored.
You have gone to demystify every defense mechanism, hidden motivation, and bias rooted in almost every group of people.
Very thorough deduction. Excellent work. And thank you for addressing how all of these behaviors are motivated in a quest for political and economic power/achievement.
Call it for what it is

Thank you so much for this video of clear, defendable thought. It makes distinctions that are useful to me for clearly labeling and delineating what I already believed in a fuzzier way. I can now catalog my own thinking with clearer distinction. Thank you.

How can the depleted mind (over abundant information) some true much false) make sense of anything, anymore?

Valuable perspectives, but unfortunately Sam voices like yours are still too sober for the masses.
