I have the opposite opinion. I own the James Cameron , Hulk and the no date 14060. I have a large wrist and all 3 fit comfortably and look fantastic. Being tool watches, their reason of manufacturing was purpose built. Rolex's Modus Operandi is to constantly improve their product and this piece takes the Rolex dive watch to the next level. No other Rolex has a 5.5 mm crystal and as you know, creates a wonderful dome effect that no other Rolex can,. It's dial rivals the beauty of the Hulk all the while offering a two tone gradient that no other Rolex has. It's the only Rolex to be honour a scientific exploration. The green DEEPSEA text itself unique to represent the colour of the Deepsea challenger. BTW, James Cameron was the first to make the descent alone. it's the only Rolex dive watch to be made in 2 materials, both steel and titanium. it's construction is also unique. I love this watch for it's aesthetic, it's unique construction and then fact its is the most technical dive watch you can buy. no, your not going to take it down to 12,880 ft but that.s not the point. from a collectors standpoint, the 126660 is a must. it represents what Rolex is all about. Personally, if you love the historical aspect Rolex and their dive watch ethos, you probably understand and respect what this watch represents. And most importantly, if you own one or are thinking of buying one, it looks fantastic on the wrist. I would never sell it. And BTW, this and the Hulk seem to attract the most comments from casual watch lovers. First is always the colour of the dial on both. in the cool light of shade. it's a personal choice and personally, I smile every time it buckle the Cameron up. From a collectors perspective, this piece is a strong hold! When (if) discontinued, this will pay handsomely.
LWC, think twice about deep sixing the 126660.

I also have the 126660 James Cameron in my collection. Most people know about the wider bracelet and the new 3235 movement, but one thing most people don't know (including most dealers) is that they made the minutes and seconds hand slightly longer such that they sweep exactly with the indices (vs. the discontinued 116660, which has a slight gap between the tips of the hands and the indices).

Definitely its one of the most iconic diver's watch of all time. The science behind the escape valve truly seeks my attention but on the other hand I felt that this is crafted more for an occasional purpose for the fact that the weight of the watch does not suits the daily workings and this might be annoying at times. But after all when you look at the collection this watch definitely owns a place. Thanks for the video @londonwatchcollector ❤

It will always be a watch that you “occasionally” come back to, but it will never be a staple for you. My recommendation would be: 1) retain it as a watch for occasions or 2) move from your collection and find a better wrist/home for such a beautiful piece.

Thank you for you great videos and all your comments. I have owned the same watch but I couldn’t keep it in my collection, the weight was too much and I was feeling the pressure on my wrist on my bones, I wasn’t able to wear it on a daily basis. I loved the blue fading to black and I can say that this was the main reason that made me buy the watch. I didn’t want to keep it in my collection something that I wasn’t going to wear. I actually love wearing this watch despite my small 6.5 inch wrist. But I sold it off after a few months cos I somehow managed to get 2 minor dents on the left edge of the case even though I was careful with it. It’s just too thick for someone who likes to maintain his watches in mint condition.

Too bad. I think the “ombré” dial makes it a keeper. They will not make another with this configuration. Just my opinion and looking forward to seeing your next purchase.

I own the deep sea dweller. Not the James Cameron but the 126660 3235. It's my first rolex. I started researching rolex watches about 2 months ago and decided to buy the deep sea dweller as my first rolex because it was so big with the 44mm diameter. I tried on the 43mm 40mm and 39mm Air King. They all felt and looked small on my wrist. Well the 43mm was ok. I'm 210lbs 5'10" I never measured my wrist I just went with what I felt good and looked good according to me. I'm a truck driver in the US and I've been wearing it every day. It dosen't feel too heavy. It's been 2 weeks now but I don't think I'll stop wearing it. The 44mm is the only size I want to stick with. The rest look like a women's watch on me. So small. The James Cameron will sit in a safe for obvious reasons and the DSea dweller will sit on my wrist.

Thank u very much for the great video. Been looking for a proper detailed video and urs is the one. Just checked out of a hotel in dubai and while staying there I checked a rolex store. All the watches people talking about (pepsi, batman, hulk, Daytona, and Starbucks) are not possible to order. I had a submariner that I purchased 2002 with black dial I love this watch and I gave it to my dad. I'm not a watch guy but I like to wear a nice watch for special occasions. In 2012 I purchased tag heuer monaco calibre 36. When I first saw this watch I fell In right away. The black titanium and blue and orange strip the looks from fron and back the mechanism. Its bulky but it fits my wrist fine. My wrist is 19 cm in circumference. The only thing that bothers me is the scratches that can not be repaired because of the black titanium. And the alligator strap (leather and hot weather doesnt mix) so decided to go back and purchase another rolex. Since all the watches with hype ain't available the guy offered me this watch your reviewing he told me it's possible to order and it would cost around $14,000 USD he said with my wrist size and wide shoulders the watch will look good. Would love to hear your opinion before I order the watch. They dont have it in the showroom so I couldn't try it. Is it too heavy for a daily watch? I just love the colors and the blend of blue and black. I read about it and realized that in 2018 they released a second version the one u have and it has wider traps made it smaller 44mm with some weight reduction. Do u think in the near future they will release a newer version with smaller size say maybe 43 or 42 mm? With the same depth capability? Is it a good investment for the future ? Ur opinion is greatly appreciated.

I almost forgot. I think you should do a video on how to open the diver extension on the Deep Sea and Sea- Dweller. No one else has made one, except on the older Rolexes with the “press the circle logo” on the dive extension clasp.

I agree. I'm on the list for a James Cameron. When I buy it it will be my only dive watch. Having this and a sub seems redundant.

I just found your videos and appreciate the way to develop each of them. I have wanted a Sea-Dweller for many years. I very much appreciate the development of the watch and can't imagine every selling it if I could afford one. I have a severe spinal cord injury that has taken all of my disposable income from me for the past 6 years and probably will for the near future or I would have been able to afford a timepiece like this. Thank you for the video and the others I have watched since finding your channel.

It’s a real shame they overdid it with the “Original Gas Escape Valve Ring lock system” text size. The dial is amazing, the missing cyclops was a winner and the added thickness just gives it the extra edge over the “normal” divers if your wrist has the size to carry it. I had to let it go after 1 year, I just could not stand the hideous text ruining that perfect gradient dial. They could have put a smaller font at least. Granted it’s a tool watch - even more so than its submariner cousin - and I actually took it in numerous dives more than the usual customer, but that design choice ended up being a deal breaker down the line.

Keeper! I picked up this same model about 3 weeks ago, love it. I also have a two tone sub circa 1990 and a YM 2 blue dial. I don’t see these as an overlap at all. I’m still looking to add GMT 2 Pepsi or Batgirl...haven’t decided yet. Great video!

I have one (about a year in september) and I absolutely love the dial which is why I will keep mine, however I agree that it can get very heavy and sometimes even get in the way so it's not for everyday...it is a good and tough watch though and has withstood a lot of my watch-abusive behavior.
With your collection of watches it might not be as wearable or might even be redundant but it stands out amongst the gmts and subs one usually sees and I appreciate that.

Keep the watch no matter what!!!! When we buy a watch we have all kinds of reasons why we buy it. Then one day we try to make reasons in our heads to justify selling the same watch. Just enjoy the watch, make it your every day watch, wear it, sleep with it and stop the chatter in your head. Even though you won't use the 3900m divers advantage that this watch offers, its nice to know that its there. This watch is built like a tank, its bullet proof and you can wear it in a war zone. Keep it

  • @CluelessWatchCollector

I understand your feelings. It's a heavy watch and "relatively " big compared to other rolex dive watches. But other rolex dive watches go only to 300-1220 meter. This beast goes down to 3900m. Fair ro say, that only comparison should be with the PloProf, just to get a feeling what "big" means. Dont get me wrong, I would love to own both, the SDDS and the PloProf, no question. They are both remarkable. I have choosen the SDDS. I do hope to get it this year.

  • @Mthusiast4life
    @Mthusiast4life Před 4 lety

I understand your decision. You just said it bothers you because of the thikness. When I had mine, I also was in constantly pain as this watch is not only thick but very heavy and presses on certain spots on your wrist, that can seriously inflame it. That was the reason I just had to get rid of mine, eventhough I iced it out completely with even an skull dial and green smaragds in the bezel. Oh well lesson learned on that one.

  • @fire_watch7735

I have a 8.25" wrist and the Janes Cameron feels too big for me too... I have a GMT, SubC ND and Explorer 214270 that IMHO are much more comfortable. Cool story on the James Cameron though. Approximately two years ago my friend who's a Rolex Watchmaker sold a new James Cameron full kit with an accompanying Rolex coffee table book for charity. To improve the value and provenance, James Cameron himself signed the outer box, booklets and coffee table book signed to help raise more money for the charity. I considered purchasing it as it really didnt go for too much if a premium considering that it was signed by the man himself. Anyways, cheers and stay safe.

Luckily this is the first Rolex I bought and you are right. I don’t think I need to buy another one. I like diver watches to have the thickness and the weight on my 71/3” wrist and this fits the bill perfectly.

Nice to see an up load on a Friday evening nice surprise, I understand your feeling on the thick ness of the watch but having said that the blue dial fading from top of the dial to the bottom in the day light looks superb think just on that note you should leave it in the collection and enjoy it from time to time . Another great up load enjoy the weekend people .
