    Good tip. But, all you have to do is remove both bolts, and lift one side of the alternator up. Give the alternator a wiggle and it will push the bushing in a little. Drop the alternator back into place and do the same on the other. Takes about 30 seconds.

      Thanks this worked extremely well. Wiggled each side and it slid right in after bolt trick didnt work very well. Im glad i saw the first trick too tho or i woulda been woopin on it with my hammer😂

      Did thus worked and saved time no struggle. I did use a Lil penetration oil.

    THANK YOU this tip saved me so much time while in front of O’Reilly Auto. The new Alt. didn’t fit used this and slipped right in after. I got wife and kids back home and felt like a badass!

    I literally just changed my wife's alternator out this morning at a truck stop 3 hrs from home and wondered how to move those bushings. And yes I used my hammer, NOW I know what to do for the future... Thank You!!!

    Thanks for the tip on the bushings, I had to put 2 alternators in my Silverado today (first one was doa) I have fought them before not knowing this trick and it saved my a lot of frustration. So thank you.

    My first attempt at moving the bushings into place involved using a C clamp and the socket, but the bushings were extremely hard to move. My second attempt I found just the right bolt, washer, socket, washer, and nut combination, and although it was difficult to make them move, they did eventually move. Thanks Dave!

    I could swear my Gen 2 Ram has a similar bushing on the alternator mount. I like the format. Thanks, David!

      I cant remember if they do or not....Most have it in the case and backing off the bolt a few turns and a gentle tap with the hammer is all thats needed to free it up. Gentle that is lol.

    Thank you! Used this exact tip this morning and avoided damaging the “ears”. Alternator replacement went well except for one little “gotcha”. For clumsy DIY-ers like me…keep one of those telescoping magnets handy….yeah, I dropped a socket and it landed in the plastic motor shield below ….retrieved it and all ok!

    Great tip. Another good tip to recommend. If the intake tube is removed to get to the tensioner for loosing the belt. Be sure to connect it back BEFORE starting the engine. Otherwise, the replace mass air sensor diagnostic trouble code will report.

    Great tip. Here's a another tip make sure the alternator your installing is the current amperage. Don't put a 160a when you need a 100a

      Very true…..some times there are multiple options. Brake rotors are the worst when it comes to that on some cars

    That's the ki d of tip only experience mechanics from honest shops actually do. I'm not a mechanic but a parts replacer. I do know how to fabricate and dictate what to do in most given situations. My particular career has led me down that road haha
