    I always hated working on collision-damaged cars. There is always the risk of significant STORED energy in places where you would not expect it. Disassembly of such a car for repairs can be very dangerous. A frame member doesn't have to be called a spring to ACT like a spring! Much respect to the good folks still in the trenches daily doing this work. Be careful under there, Ray.

No problem, even with picking up and dropping off the car it should take under an hour. Get car up on ramps and try and remove drain plug and discover previous oil changer had damaged the threads and used some sort of epoxy to reinstall the plug. • @SalvageMasterEssex
      @SalvageMasterEssex Před 2 lety

      @@captainmorgan6035 Here in UK most modern engines don't use sump (Oil Pan) gaskets anymore. Should be using correct sealant which sets like rubber, not silicon which is crap and has a tendency to peel off 👍👍

    • @captainmorgan6035
      @captainmorgan6035 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SalvageMasterEssex Yeah most manufacturers use sealant not silicone sorry I may have use the wrong word. The gasket maker stuff anyway, me personally I just rather use a gasket on my own stuff. Just easier to remove and don’t have to spend hours scraping crap off. I know in the end the reason they’re using the sealant stuff instead of real gaskets now it’s because it’s cheaper just like everything in life it’s all about the money and saving it.

    I spent 6 years working as an aircraft mechanic, with 95% of my work being on piston powered airplanes, with engines ranging from a Rotax 912, 2.0L turbo-diesel, 240 cu. in. flat four, all the way to 540 cu. in. turbo-ed six bangers. Occasional PT-6 turbine thrown in there. One thing about doing that, is if you don't do your job right you will kill people as there is no pulling over if shit really hits the fan, but on the other hand, you never (99.99%) had to worry about any jerry-rigging bullshit or iffy customer supplied parts.
