    my 2012 Civic EX Coupe has 137k miles on it, and it runs out great. I change the oil every 4500 miles with full synth, drive it SUPER gently, keep it in the garage, and run injector cleaner about every second or third tank of gas. I want to get a million miles out of her! I even slapped in new struts and shocks, so it handles much sportier now.

    • @MJ100k
      @MJ100k  Před 11 měsíci +3

      Nice 👍 I think you could get a million miles out of it. The only issue is… it takes ALOT of driving to make it to a million miles. The people that do- usually drive professionally…. Like 8 hours a day or more. So taxis, Uber drivers and Delivery drivers etc.
      The million mile Tundra that I saw when I was at Toyota was a guy who delivered parts around the country for oil fields. So unless you are a professional driver you may not make it ……
      But you could definitely make the car last 20-25 years or more. That’s an awesome feat in itself. By then it will be considered a classic. The one thing you have to worry about on any older car is rust. So make sure to have your car washed frequently (hopefully once a week) at a good professional car wash…. Then you’ll definitely make it ! 👍💯

      I haven’t done a ton of research on these generations… But in general, the 2012s 1.8 liter engine is fine but if I had a choice I’d rather have a newer 2016-2019 2.0 liter engine… there is a 1.5 liter turbo engine you can get for those years as well, but I’d stick with the 2.0. Some 1.5 liters have oil dilution issues. I’d rather have a naturally aspirated engine. Less potential problems.

I don’t care if the 2.0 liter is faster, I know it’s faster. I’m talking reliability. When you discuss old cars like this - you also have to factor in the previous owners most likely driving habits. The 2.0 liter is more likely to be beat on, crashed up, and have aftermarket accessories. That takes a toll. If you want reliability get the 1.8. If you want to race around and get someone’s beat on used car… get a 2 liter. 🤷‍♂️

    • @MJ100k
      @MJ100k  Před 4 měsíci

      The 8th gen Civic in the US includes 06-2011 model years
      The engine block problem you’re referring to only affected SOME (not all) 2006-2008 (with a-few early production 2009 Civics)
      There was a service bulletin issued by Honda to address this issue. Service Bulletin 10-048. The warranty was extended by 10 years with unlimited mileage.
      1- This was a known issue that affected a limited number of engines. Not every engine or every year of the 8th gen was affected.
      2- If the engine was affected, it’s likely that
      the owner got the engine replaced under the extended warranty already. Which would give you an engine with less miles on it, if you were to purchase one of the vehicles repaired under warranty.
      3- If you are concerned or looking at buying a used Civic you can call a dealership and give them the vin number. They can look up to see if that vin was affected by the service bulletin.
      If it was affected and replaced then there is no worry.
      If it was affected and not repaired… you can simply avoid buying that particular Civic. However; this issue is already about 5 years past the 10 year extended warranty… If this problem was gonna happen, it probably would’ve happened years ago.
      4- If you want to see examples of high mileage Civics of this generation you can easily visit cargurus. com and do a nationwide search. You’ll see many examples of Civics between 200 and 300k miles. I just looked and one at 350k. There is also a known 1 million mile Civic from this generation.
      But if you want to let an over 15 year old service bulletin, that extended the warranty by 10 years… that only even affected a limited amount of engines…. From a couple years of an entire generation of cars… that’s up to you 🤷‍♂️
      Here is what the Bulletin says word by word below. With a direct link at the bottom:
      On some 2006-08 and early production 2009 Civics, the engine (cylinder) block may leak engine coolant, resulting in engine overheating. To increase customer confidence, American Honda is extending the warranty of the engine block to 10 years from the original date of purchase, with no mileage limit.

      the owner got the engine replaced under the extended warranty already.
