  • For 7 days I decided to eliminate ALL carbs and sugar from my diet and follow a keto based diet protocol. In this video I show the ups and downs of my experience as well as great no carb/ sugar keto friendly recipes.
I wanted to do this 7 day challenge to see how my sleep, overall mood, energy levels, hunger and body composition would be effected.
The results did shock me and I started to experience faster weight loss then I expected/felt comfortable with. I actually ended up eating MORE food and still experience PURE fat loss!

Added sugar is the drug we were all force fed tolerances to as kids, and then kept using it our whole lives not realizing it's a drug or that we're addicted. While I was growing up, sugar wasn't even considered that bad, we were told to worry far more about fat, "so grab that low-fat sugar filled snack and you'll be on the path to healthiness". I enjoy a sugar binge every now and then, but most days I stay under 25g of added sugar. I rarely even drink juice because typically when juice is made, all the fiber is stripped out. This makes drinking the sugar in juice just as unhealthy as any other form of sucrose. When whole fruit is chewed, an enzyme in our saliva interacts with the fruit sugars and keeps the sugar from spiking one's blood sugar.
Back when I consumed even moderate amounts of sugar I'd find myself craving it. This is like withdrawal. If you completely cut out added sugars for at least 3 days to a week, the biological craving for sugar that you developed from consuming sugar will disappear. Of course, that doesn't mean you won't still want sugar, but it becomes so much easier to not consume sugar that it's remarkable. I'd even say that for me I felt disgusted by extremely sweet foods after I quit. Even moderate sugar intake, which I'm gonna say is 35+ grams to 100 grams a day will cause one health issues in the long run. High Fructose Corn Syrup is probably even worse than regular sucrose and HFCS was in practically everything marketed to kids for decades.

That literally isn’t possible. You would need to deficit 66,500 calories to lose that much weight. In three weeks, assuming you somehow didn’t eat ANYTHING, the most you could realistically deficit is around 42,000-50,000 calories.
Now that we’ve established that your diet is physically impossible, you should do a double take on your program. Something is off. You’re either lying, or more likely, not properly tracking your progress.

Will ,I really enjoyed watching this video you were very thorough in explaining as you went along day by day actually meal by meal and your overall analysis at the end of your 7 days was really very logical. I unfortunately cannot do this since I'm diabetic to go off carbs you know there is no way I could do that I've even tried this keto diet and I could not keep my blood sugar up to a healthy level without the carbs.i appreciate you doing the challenge. As somebody who weight trains it was very interesting. You don't have enough body fat to do this all the time that is my opinion you put yourself into the ketosis which is the goal of people on a keto diet but the ideal is to force your body to use stored up fat in place of the carbs to supply energy for your body. Sir you are an incredibly good looking guy in great shape,as a matter of fact in our family we use the term hubbub, and you do not have the extra body fat to do it all the time I'm not an expert but from what I've read and what I know as a diabetic. But thank you again it was a neat experiment it was very interesting to watch it play out. Take care and thank you for sharing and helping other people. Steven Kramer 🙏❤️😘🍩

My skin has cleared up drastically. I have more mental clarity.
I can’t say my energy is high, because I believe my body is still getting used to the plant-based aspect. But, I do workout with a personal trainer 2-3 times a week. And take walks.
I’m not sure if I am even interested in going back to added sugar after these 21 days. I know a lot of it will give me a headache. And I love how my skin is looking now. So, I will probably continue this eating plan on most days indefinitely. Sometimes I will have a treat if I am feeling like it, or I am out to eat with friends or family. One thing I find people do is they focus a lot on the not eating carbs aspect, but seem to forget that keto is high fat, low carb. Not getting enough fats in can really make you low energy. That and not getting in electrolytes during the process of going into ketosis. I like to drink some Powerade zero during that time period.

Entertaining, informative, and well produced video! I so relate to the pattern of what you experienced. On the second day I remember thinking I felt pretty good, but I knew it wasn't the 'keto' experience, yet, but I felt better simply because I'd hadn't had sugar in two days and I was no longer on the insulin roller coaster. I had a run on the third day, and while feeling a bit weakened, I still felt pretty good and energetic. In hindsight, I recognize that I still had some glycogen in my body that I was feeding off of. Third through fifth days I had some carb cravings so strong, its hard to imagine getting off of a narcotic addiction would be much worse. It got pretty bad.
I know you already acknowledged it, but I have to say, I wish you'd gone at least through the second week. Yes, adaptation and more pronounced benefits occur for months, but the second week is a real transition and you start getting a taste of what it feels like running on ketones. It takes three to four weeks for your muscles to start using the ketones efficiently so, performance-wise, so you'll still feel compromised, but your cravings will mostly subside, your mind will sharpen, and your mood will improve above your normal baseline on the second week. Also, during this second week, your taste buds begin to recalibrate. Perception of sweetness becomes magnified. I notice that things like blueberries begin to taste really sweet. However, its not just sweetness, but even meats that I would normally think of as bland begin to be full of flavor. I like to think of it as typically, we're always overstimulating our sense of taste and this dampens it, but when we stop doing this, we regain the ability to appreciate natural tasting food that's not flavor on steroids.

Will, it would have been interesting to test your blood sugar when you were feeling worn out. Since you kept protein high, there would be no eventual Ketosis, so you probably just went a bit hypoglycemic once muscle and liver glycogen were depleted, then you recovered as the protein metabolized. You are likely somewhat of a sugar addict because I can totally relate to everything you are saying. Caffeine addiction too. I could not do what you did, so great job and thanks for sharing the results!
