    Thank you for another vid Lily. Your garden and house looks better and better every year. Amazing.
    What people dont get, for some reason is 1) petrol/gas is needed to power tractors. No tractors no food.. No beef, no flower, no sunflowers, no potatoes... Gas/petrol goes up, food goes up.
    2) if all governments do is subsidised faild crops, money and work have been spent, no food has been grown/made. So subsidiaries alone are not the way to increas or keep crop production. Especally if what you subsadies as a "cash crop" is food for cattle.
    3) with lesss and less small farms and only bigger big farms, food production and land are being monopolised from dirt and seed to plate. All run by people who can affored a Tessla and 10€ per 1kg of tomatos.

    This year I am trying to start new plants for tomatoes by taking the suckers, placing them in water and then, when roots are established, moving them to my greenhouse. Not sure it will work, but if it does, it will be a way to get two or three plants from each one purchased. Also, starting more of my garden from seed this year.

    Just a tip. If you are gardening for SHTF, potatoes are the crop that is calorie dense but relatively easy to grow, use barrels with holes or laundry hampers with holes to grow a lot vertically.

      It definitely helps. You can also save the suckers, stick them in jar of water for week or so, and plant into soil once it has roots. Then you get a bonus plant! And I agree! Her garden space looks wonderful 🥰

    • @xSakixHarukax
      @xSakixHarukax Před 2 lety +1

      @@celticseaalchemist7667 Oh I didn't realize you could do that with the suckers! Thank you for letting me know. I made a mistake and planted a few plants early because it was so warm that I thought our growing season was shifting slightly but I was wrong. I lost 6 of my 10 or so plants that I had done. That's okay, gardening is nothing if not a constant learning process.

    • @celticseaalchemist7667
      @celticseaalchemist7667 Před 2 lety

      @@xSakixHarukax it definitely is a learning experience and every year has its variables. I used to plant mine out on Memorial Day weekend, like everyone else in my area. But we usually end up having cold rainy weather for a couple of weeks until mid June or so. My tomatoes and peppers were much happier when I waited until mid-late June to plant them in the garden. I hope you end up with a great tomato harvest this year. Ask friends for their suckers too😉

    Great garden, raised vegetable containers and green house. The wooden boxes are very well crafted and nice organized. We all need to keep the seeds from the plants we grow. A simple pumpkin can give you around 50 seeds and many other plants also yield more seeds than we can need. I am wondering whether your raised beds connect to the soil underneath them.

I mentioned about pinching off the tomato suckers on your other video...just wait for them to grow about two inches before pinching them off the put the suckers into water to root them and then plant into pots...I don't throw the suckers away because it will grow up into a productive plant increasing your harvest even more!!! 😉

    I really like how big yor tomato plants allready are. and allready strawberry plants. I planted some chili plants this year on my balcony and built an upright rack for 4 flower boxes on my balcony, which stands on the wall.
    I think it is always good to have healthy food from the garden.. But British food crisis is a bit different from other parts of europe because with Brexit the people who work there dropped immediately and this lead to dramatic economical crisis during 2020 and 2021.

    I just saw the note on your other show so have joined this channel, too.
    I had tough type of difficulty with invasive grass in my raised beds so planted spinach in a large above ground planter this spring. I had fresh spinach and greens to eat all spring. There is still plenty of chard and kale. I am thinking about destroying the raised beds and going to completely to above ground planters because my health is not good enough to do the work. Anyone can raise vegetables if they have the right set up even if they have poor health.
    My system is very economical since I can use second hand or found items as planters and can reuse soil and make compost. I converted old food grade barrels into rain barrels and am collecting rainwater for my garden. Right now I have many herbs growing, cucumbers are planted, collards growing, cherry tomatoes, peppers and edible flowers. I will be expanding my garden in fall.
    One thing I also do is supliment my diet with wild plants and flowers. Here in Texas we have many edible wild plants and I am studying them in order to expand my knowledge from the dozen I already know. Keep up the good work. 💖

    How do you keep weeds out of your garden and yard? I have 120 square feet of raised beds, plus dozens of pots and a 33 feet by 4 foot garden bed and I am constantly overwhelmed by weeds and therefore don’t grow nearly as much as I could. (I am in Florida).

    New subscriber over from Doug & Stacey’s channel. Just wanted to say hi from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and to also mention that hydroponics is another terrific way to grow some of your own food if you don’t have any land or outdoor space. You don’t need any fancy equipment just a few small things and once you start you will become hooked and will begin adding more and more to it. I have grown sweet peppers several kilograms of red and orange and yellow. I’ve grown roma and cherry tomatoes. I can’t count the amount of kilos of lettuce I’ve grown I had no idea there were sooo many types of lettuce! I’m growing all kinds of herbs basil, oregano, sage, chives, mint, parsley. Ive grown cucumbers and zucchini and I’ve grown broccoli and I’m trying to grow cauliflower at the moment. We love tatsoi and I grow many of them at one day from seed to harvest is 45days and the crazy thing is they continue to grow after you harvest the leaves around the outside, it’s an amazing veggie some call it Asian cabbage. It’s been an absolute blast to grow my own veggies. I find I only need one plant to provide enough for myself and my husband although I now have a fancy DIY pvc pipe system that I grow 54 heads of lettuce in all at one time. I harvest the outer leaves of all the lettuce every 7-10 days which provides us lettuce for the entire time and then I continue to harvest every 7-10 days for about 6 cycles before I need to switch to new lettuce plants. We absolutely love fresh homegrown organic pest free lettuce! I highly encourage anyone to try just lettuce in a jar that they darken with paper or paint to keep the sunlight from reaching the roots and be sure it’s not chlorinated water because that will kill them. Basil will grow in plain water as well. You can buy hydroponic organic liquid fertilizer and it seems quite expensive but you need the smallest amount in a 5gallon Pail and it will last you a very very long time! Looking forward to more of your videos!!🥰❤️🇨🇦

    Lilly, I hope you get this message. There is a serious soil contamination issue happening here in the southeastern US and in the UK and some parts of Europe. It's early stages of discovery and testing, so it is not know how widespread the problem is, or the source of the contamination. I highly recommend that you watch this video from a highly respected homesteader/farmer in South Carolina, and keep your eyes peeled for any indication it is happening near you!
