I just love Jerry Orbach so much! I knew he'd been a respected, well regarded, and Tony winning Broadway theater player long before he forayed into films and television (and watching video clips of his song & dance numbers are a surefire way to improve my mood and simply make my day no matter how horrible a day it's been!) When he died (not very long after this interview - he'd been hiding his battle with cancer for about 10 years so while his immediate family may not have been too surprised, his colleagues, coworkers, and fans were devasted by what appeared to be a sudden, out of the blue loss of a terrific actor and a truly marvelous human being. Tales of his natural, sincere kindness and generosity he showed his colleagues - and not just the actors but every behind the scenes crew member as well - and how gracious he was with fans had been shared frequently, long before he passed. Any story you heard or read about him confirmed and emphasized the fact that he was a beloved actor, person, and friend to so many for about 40 years! I literally cried the day the news broke of his death. The world was definitely better with him in it. It goes without saying that he was THE best detective within t h e entire Law & Order franchise. Detective Lennie Briscoe was hands down the most interesting character and the show just wasn't the same without him. Thankfully, there are ALWAYS L& O reruns on various channels and he was such a long term character/ensemble actor on the show, chances are always good that one can find an episode with Lennie. ❤ And hey, if Det. Lennie Briscoe wants to put Baby in the corner, he can very easily do so and nobody would even question it! Sorry my comment is so freaking long, but I've spent a couple days watching various videos of Jerry Orbach on stage, singing and dancing, performing at the Tony awards, winning the awards, and appearing on talk shows like this. The man's range and multitude of talents were amazing and admirable. I do believe his passing is greatly mourned not only by people in the Actors' Guild and the entertainment industry as a whole, but also by the audiences and fans such as myself. Rest in peace, Mr. Orbach. You are indeed very sorely missed, but if you were not only hiding your long-term illness for such a very long time, but also concealing any unpleasant effects of the cancer or any meds you'd be taking. Not to mention any severe pain. If any or all of that was how you were putting on a brave face and pushed on through. If that's how your final days had been, in that case I'm glad you're no longer suffering in pain. You're still very young and new handsome younger skin guy responds more quickly. Thanks for letting me ramble on about Jerry Orbach and the best t.v. detective ever, Lennie Briscoe. 😊
I was today year's old when I found out that Jerry Orbach 1) Was the voice of Lumiere in Beauty & the Beast (1991) & 2) That he was a fellow Libra I wish he would've been with us longer. What a talent! I need to watch some of the older stuff he was in sometime. I will always remember Det. Lenny Briscoe and Dr. Houseman of course ❤
Jerrys weary charm and understated charisma was pure Method School from the glory days in the 1950s. His scene stealing appearances in Law & Order was like being visited by a Master of "less is always more".
Of course he was great in so many things, but I especially enjoyed his performances on stage as the original Billy Flynn in the musical "Chicago". Other actors have gone in completely different directions with the role, but Jerry was the best.
@highlandsh Yes, Jerry was in some greats. He sang "Promises, Promises" from that show, which, according to some who have done that part, is one of the most difficult songs due to so many key changes. Jerry was perfect. He also was in the original "Fantastics", and I loved his rendition of "Try to Remember". I also loved him in "Law and Order". The show for me was not the same without him.
My parents invested in that film and got so ripped off. Among other things, the soundtrack, which was the most money-making part of it all, got sold off.

Jerry Orbach was a national treasure.

Jerry my love ....😍
I still think of him as Detective Lenni Briscoe on Law and Order
I remember him as Paul in 'Carnival', and don't figure out my age. LOLOLOLOLOL.
I think of him as both Dr. Houseman and Lennie Briscoe.
you forgot he played Billy Flynn in the musical "Chicago" in 1975! Can't live without Jerry! he was awesome!
Don't forget 'Carnival', way back in the early 1960's.
RIP I always watched and still watch well the reruns of law and order Lonnie Briscoe
Lonnie is his character's nephew. Lennie is his character's name.
What a sweet man.

Yes a great man. Hard to put him in anything then Law and Order.....
the laughter during that scene was odd. it's as if the audience felt compelled to react but didn't know how
