"Are you still here? Have you unsubscribed yet?" 🤣🤣🤣 I completely agree about celebrity memoirs/autobiographies. I've read enough of them that I'm not interested in reading any more. Much better, as you said, to read about the person's life from an outside perspective.

Greetings from 2022! This video just popped up on my feed. I love that, when you don't like something, you say so. So many other Booktubers make apologies and excuses and qualify their answers to land in the least offensive way. You? "Just … NO". 👏 Agree with you 100% on Ferrante. Disagree with you 1000% on Patchett. To each her own. I thoroughly enjoy your intelligent, forthright, and amusing thoughts on all things bookish. Hope you are having a good day!

Haha. I agree with every one of your choices. On the autobiography subject, I especially despise the so-called comedic or humorous celebrity memoir. I’m not interested and I just don’t find them funny. The writing is usually mediocre at best and I just don’t understand their appeal.
Joyce Carol Oates and Ann Patchett are two writers I thought I would like, but I’ve yet to finish one of their novels. I also tried Elena Ferrante and didn’t care for it. When I see people gush about these authors, I think maybe I’m missing something, but now I am vindicated! I gave up on Patchett back in the spring and, just recently, after yet another attempt, I gave up on Oates. Another series that everyone seems to love is the Gilead books. I couldn’t make it through the first book.

This was great Britta! I agree with most of what you said. I enjoyed listening to the Ferrente books, but probably would not have enjoyed reading them. I tried to convince myself that I liked Wolf Hall, but I think I might be with you. I like some adventure stuff (ships) but Hemingway is someone I'm just not that interested in as well. Mark Twain is a bit different, I really liked Huckleberry Finn, but then again the 19th century novel is wheelhouse.... (I saw on goodreads that you didn't care for Crime and Punishment, which I just finished and loved).

Totally with you on the celebrity/political autobiographies. I think the only one I ever read was years ago - Katharine Hepburn's book Me. She was such an interesting person, but I confess that I don't remember any of it. I even have trouble with biographies of the celebrity/politician ilk. When I read biography (which I seldom do), they tend to be of scientific types - Einstein, Oppenheimer and Feynman were all of interest to me. Happy reading!

I tried so hard with Wolf Hall...got about halfway through and gave up on my second try. True I don't know anything about the Tudors other than that one book I read ages ago but I finished The Books of Jacob by Olga Tokarczuk, a history I know even less about. I feel left out 😔.
I don't have much interest in reading any of the authors you mentioned. Dudebro...haha...I like Dickens and Oscar Wilde a lot though.
I did read the first Twilight book as a teenager but otherwise yes, fully with you.
Tried and failed - James Joyce, Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf and several postmodern/magical realist authors so far (Pynchon, Marquez, Rushdie, AS Byatt, DeLillo, Franzen, Michael Chabon, Jennifer Egan, Murakami). And Cormac McCarthy.
💯 with you on horror (except I actually get scared or more precisely repulsed). I add romance, most YA, poetry and most non-fiction, especially biographies.
Ooh I know how everyone praises this quartet but somehow I just know it is not going to be for me. I read a lot of science fiction/fantasy but two non-SFF series are the Cromwell series (I'm sad about not being able to finish Wolf Hall) and The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson (quit after Book 1).
I grew up with Harry Potter and I have no interest in reading anything beyond that (not because she is problematic, I still reread Harry Potter, but just because it doesn't interest me).
Same - no interest in autobiographies.
I don't know much about new releases really.
