I get what you are saying about horror often being boring. My spouse laughs at me for being bored by so-called thrillers.

    •  Před 3 lety

      Ha, a kindred spirit!!

Yes! I am interested in your reading tastes. 🤗 I also appreciate a good story.

    •  Před 3 lety

Aww, thank you, Alba! And yeah for a good story, right?

The only way I’ve been able to enjoy fiction in audiobook format is if I’m reading the text and listening at the same time...which kind of defeats the purpose of getting more reading in. 🤓 I’ve really liked that strategy with classics and they become much more memorable.

    •  Před 3 lety +1

Yes, I've heard a lot of people say that (reading and listening at the same time). I've tried but it drives me nuts to slow down my reading... Impatient, even as a reader, me. LoL.

I never thought about reading speed affecting enjoyment of audiobooks. Probably because I read slower than most audiobooks go. I do speed them up to 1.25 though and I don't notice it "Micky Mousing" the narrator's voice too much.

    •  Před 3 lety

Lucky you with audiobooks! 1.25 is about as fast as I can speed things up without the micky mouse-effect as well.

Wednesdays are a good day to “load up.” 😂 You made my day!

    •  Před 3 lety +1

Haha, yeah, let's load up together on Wednesdays! LoL.

This is a great tag with lots of interesting questions! I promise I will get to it eventually! 😂😂

    •  Před 3 lety

Good thing this tag doesn't 'age'. So in about 5 years from now when you have time to do it, it will still be interesting! LoL.

Helen Oyeyemi’s execution of the child protagonist’s narrative in The Icarus Girl blew me away. I think she really captured the innocence and perceptiveness in children. I would recommend to try that! It’s also a kind of unnerving but not outright scary story, at least it was for me.

    •  Před 3 lety +1

Thank you very much for the recommendation, I will check it out!

Thanks for another super video Britta! I agree with you almost 100% on your reading tastes. I do,however, read many series. I limit myself to one book a year from each to keep them fresh, and they must have really compelling characters. I also listen to audio books maybe a fifth of what I read, but they must be fairly short and have a competent narrator. I can only listen for roughly a half an hour, though, or I doze off. What can drive me nuts are word mispronunciations, and any time emphasis is misplaced within a sentence. Aaarrggh!

    •  Před 3 lety

Ah, thats interesting what you say about series. And yes, mispronounciations etc are the worst!

I did audiobooks in the days when they were broadcasted and I listened while commuting with the car (and in case I missed it in the morning I catched the repetition quite before dinner). By the way, I just uploaded a TAG video in which I tagged you 🙂 🙏

    •  Před 3 lety +1

Ah, yes, I can see that listening while commuting works. And thank you for tagging me!

Favourite genre ? Literary /contemporary/ historical/ thrillers... I can’t really pick. I don’t read much SciFi, no horror and no YA. Romance is a great genre when you feel really down because there’s usually a happy ending.

    •  Před 3 lety

I don't read much YA either, hardly any to be honest. And yes, I can see that about romance-novels!
