Agreed, Luka and Kyrie were explosive offensively and the defense actually looked fair they just couldn't get the offensive rebound and you're not going to win a lot of games when your opponents get 3 shots a possession. They need a center and a forward sized forward or 2 and they'll be good provided Kyrie's shenanigans don't derail things ...that isn't the safest bet though
I like Luka but this is a bad move. If Mavs pull a trigger on Kyrie, Luka will leave in one or two seasons.

Kyrie and Luka still has potential to work, the Mavs roster was horrible last year. They gotta learn how to play together

Luka does want him there, or he wouldn't have been there to begin with. Luka wants to win in Dallas, and Kyrie is his best chance. There are more ideal fits, but it's hard to obtain players of Irving's skill level. Luka worked good with Brunson, it should be at least that good with Kyrie. They just need to plug some gaping holes on that roster.
Random, but what if Philly said forget about Harden and went after Kyrie, and then took Maxey who everybody loves and Harris with his expiring contract and flipped them for Paul George, a Big 3 of Kyrie, PG and Embiid would make a lot of noise, granted there are major Injury Concerns but if healthy they would be contenders

Not a Mavs fan or hater . The good news is that it seems that they had a very good draft in terms of obtaining to young men of good character and who will help address the defensive weakness. The bad news is that they will end up giving Kyrie more money and a lengthier contract then any other team would consider particularly given the implications of the new CBA. Sure it is possible that Kyrie will behave and put the team first but there is a big difference betweeen "possibility" and "probability" and the track record of the past 7 years speaking to the probability that at some time within 12-18 months they will regret it.

I don’t see it happening, but the Toronto Raptors are a team that might make a deal for Kyrie. Raptors are trying to compete and FVV is currently a FA. Rumors have speculated, the Raptors are willing and looking to trade Siakam. The Raptors might feel like Kyrie gives them a chance to compete in the East. Kyrie, Trent, OG, Barnes, Jakob. Not a bad lineup.

Luka had the Mavs in the top half of the western conference before Kyrie came. Mavs should have taken a leaf Denver’s book and just kept the core group intact. Destroyed the system to get 2 batmans that can’t play together. If only they’d kept Brunson, Dinwiddie and DFS, and made sims adjustments at the centre position, Luka would have 100 percent taken them to the finals.
@@sagrophobiao. They traded DFS and Dinwiddie for Kyrie Irving. They had to do it. Losing DFS hurt them in the short term, but there was a cap on how far that "core" could go. It's a lot easier to get another 3 and D wing like DFS than it is to acquire a player who is a current All Star game starter. They wanted to keep Brunson but he wanted to go to the Knicks, and the fact that he was gone necessitated the trade for Kyrie. Speaking of Brunson, he's proof that Luka and Kyrie can definitely work playing together.

His job was to keep the offence going while Luka is on the bench and switch to being a shooter when Luka’s creating plays. When Kyrie came, he and Luka started taking turns, and that ruined the offence. Let’s face it, Kai is a champion, a Vet, who plays at a much faster rate than Luka, much faster than Brunson ever did. He himself said he’s still not become used to Luka’s pace, cuz Luka likes to slow the game down. Like I said, Luka and JB were a great fit, both from the same draft class, knowing who was to do what, how to complement one another, etc etc. Having Kyrie is having 2 batmans on court, and there’s a good chance what happens in Boston happens in Dallas, when everyone was fighting for the top dog spot. Luka needs a centre first and foremost. A good centre. He doesn’t need another star point guard. He’s good enough to carry the playmaking by himself, just needs a back up point guard when he’s on the bench.
@@sagrophobia Brunson didn't want to be Robin to Luka's Batman, which is understandable, and that's why he went to New York. If Kyrie re-signs with Dallas, it has already been made crystal clear from the coach on up to the owner that it is Luka's team. It took Luka and Brunson time to develop chemistry, you have to give Luka and Kyrie more than 16 games together.
