- Model an HO Scale Tree showing actual roots - the tree is made of sage brush, and the roots carved from Sculpey clay. You'll see it's quite easy to make a realistic, well rooted tree for your layout or diorama. Great for N, HO or O scale.

hello Fos Scale Models & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool Thanks Fos Scale Models Friends Randy
Like every time I watch one of your videos .. I immediately want to stop everything and skip off to my layout to replicate it in my little world
Motivation is contagious!
Thanks Doug, BearCreek 🐾🌫🚂.
True craftsman!
Thank you!
Another Great, skill driven video !!!!
Thx Loren! Love those corrugated boxes!
This would make an excellent Premium Clinic!
I remember those!
Great video, Doug
Thanks for showing
Thx Doug!
Nice detail. Great work. Thanks for sharing.
I used to attach a small block of wood under the trunk and do a subtractive carve, leaving the exposed roots.😳 Your clay method is SO much easier. Why didn't I think of that?🤔 Smack!!! (sound of palm hitting forehead) lol And that tree is looking great on your million-dollar layout!🤗 🚂Lawrence
Thx! There's a dozen ways to do the same thing, worth trying them all.
I liked the "Arteest" out in the woods with his drawing tablet freezing his Butt off to get the details needed to make realistic trees! Good Job, Buddy
Thx, was a bit cold!
Too many times I've seen trees just stuck in the ground like a telephone pole, or having an obvious base, with a meager attempt to hide it, this makes for a much more realistic tree imo. I also think that too many model trees have foliage that is too thick, yours looks fine to me.
Thanks Robert!
I just bought 10lbs of clay for a project for my daughter. She might be missing some before the weekend is over. This is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely give it a try, thx for watching
Great job.
Thank you!
Cool as always 👍
Thanks!
Looks GREAT, Doug! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thx!
That is really cool looking. I have those sage stems and the other stuff but never knew how to use it right, Thanks for showing us the right way to use it.
Your tree looks great. The roots at the base really make a difference once it it on the layout. You always have great tips. Thanks
Thanks for watching, give it a try!
Great looking scene and tree Doug, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Sorry Artiste is the correct spelling. Very nice work!!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent tree and layout.
Thank you very much!
Doug, great honest tree tutorial.
Thank you for sharing, the end result was great.
Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Thx Michael!
I love work like this and ponder the question about how consuming this commitment is for the modeler. One tree... a twenty minute video. I know there is setup but I can't imagine it would take much less time to create this tree. And when I look at your layout the AMAZING attention to detail... all of that takes hours and hours and hours. Breathtaking. I know you're not alone as a hobbyist but you certainly give amazing attention to detail. I had to subscribe so I can't watch more of what you do. You remind me of the folks making small dioramas... but you're bringing that level of attention to the whole layout. Takes my breath away. Deep respect. And your banter while working is excellent as well. You have a lovely voice and very friendly manner. Thanks.
Thanks for watching Curtis. It is time consuming, but of course everyone works at what ever level is best for them. Usually a layout is a lifelong project, so it works out, for me anyway.
Thank you for this video, I have a bandi atst star wars kit I have been meaning to build and I want to do a wood diorama with it, think I will give the root system a go. All the best Anthony
Good luck with building the AT-ST, been meaning to build one myself!
Thanks, excellent tutorial. Doug.
Will you be in Amherst?
to bad u don't have n scale your kits r great
Where is your company located? I am in Kansas City MO but soon to retire in MN. In my retirement years I am going to build a layout. Layout number 4. Your level of craftsmanship is the benchmark I want to achieve. It will take time.
For snow covered trees would apply the green flocking still before applying the snow?
Depends on the tree, evergreens yes. But other trees would have no leaves....thx for watching!
maybe you should probably practice a little before you try it in front of the camera
