  • Looking for an Accessory Circuit to install an after-market item on your Can-Am Ryker, Spyder, or RT? The Customer Accessory Circuit is the safest and best way to add extras to your Can-Am so they turn off when the key is not in the ignition.
    In this video I will cover the accessory circuits for the Spyder F3 - Ryker - and Spyder RT models. For the Spyder F3, I will be showing all 3 locations that have accessory circuits. You can use these circuits to add pretty much any aftermarket part to your ride. For the Ryker's and RT models, I will cover only one location and an accessory that I recommend to use in replace of using the accessory circuits.
    All the items I talk about in the video can be purchased on Amazon or at Slingmods.com.

    Thanks for the video. One thing you didn't test is to ensure the black is actually connected to ground. Could have done via ohm resistance function on the meter or with dc voltage measurement touching the black on the tester to the black wire on the bike

      Thanks for the good catch and comment! There are a few things i always wish i would have said different or included in videos. The great thing is i get awesome comments like this one that helps others and for me to improve videos. I do try to keep things simple and the next video out this weekend on fuses is a good example if this. I try hard to keep it super, super basic so inexperienced owners know the basics. As always a great video - did not know about the provided accessory connectors around the bike. Will have to start calling you Professor MoabMan as you know your Spyder well! Was gonna ask about fuse boxes but you covered at the end, so thank you. Have you looked at the Black Box offered by Sling Mods? The only initial difference I've noticed between that and the Show Chrome is the smart phone app to control the Black Box. Pretty cool, but may be unnecessary and overkill. Appreciate the insight, Professor!

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 3 lety +1

      The Black Box has a whole lot of bells and whistles that are nice to have, and also keeps the remotes to a minimal. For these reasons it is superior over the other and the better choice.
      Now this is far fetched, but several years ago, there were issues with people riding around and shutting down cars because they "hijacked" the computer in it and this caused wrecks. It still happens today, but the car makers became smarter with the computers. For this reason, I will not add the Black Box to my Spyder. I am paranoid about bluetooth items like this because the access things like this are given in the ECU. There is always someone smarter than me out there, so I try to keep my stuff as "dumb" as possible, so to speak. The next time you are out somewhere, look at how many Bluetooth connections your phone finds.
      Good question, and thanks for the comment and support!!

      @davidbergewaytogo Thank you for that and glad you liked. My knowledge is for US models only so I hope I give you the correct info. The connectors that you are asking about are called JST-SM. They are all called the same but you just need to add whether it is 2 pin (2P), 3 pin (3P), etc. The pin refers to how many wires the connector is for.
      I also want to mention that there are other connectors that are called automotive waterproof connectors. These usually have a rubber type gasket on them.

      @MOABMAN  Před 19 dny +1

      @G-Force_70 The best way to find out the rated amperage for the lines is by purchasing a service manual for your specific year. They will come with wiring diagrams and that information. They are not expensive either. Another way is to look at your fuse box and see what size fuse is in that location. What size the fuse is will typically be what you see out of that line. Nice video, how many LED lights strips can the accessory wires in the fronk can I hook up. I have one strip that goes under my frunk that I got from Leon hooked up to the accessory wires in the front. I just bought 12 small under glow LED lights. I don’t wanna hook them up to the battery. I’m afraid I’ll forget them can I hook them up to the accessory wires too, without blowing the fuse?

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před dnem

      There should be something that came with the lights (or online from the maker) that will tell you how many amps they pull. Led's do not pull a lot, so you "should" be ok if they are very small. I think the accessory lines are 15 amps standard.
      I have 10 sets of small lights on mine, and each piece has 6 led lights. If you bought lights that say motorcycle lights, then they are probably fine to hook all of them up.
      This is purely a guess and may not be correct on my end, but if they are strips of lights, then I would say no more than 6 feet total length for use. I would test with 4 feet first.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 2 lety

      There are several solutions but i think that it is not possible through a usb port. You will have instructions in your manual on how to link your phone to the Spyder by bluetooth and then play music that way. This has been an issue with a lot of riders though that they cant get it to work. If there is a connection possible by usb (maybe something new in 2021/2022 models) the handbook will have instructions. As far as i know the usb is only for charging.
      The 2nd solution is to just bluetooth connect your helmet system to the phone for music. I use a Sena communication for my wife and I, and it allows for music to play via bluetooth connection.
      The 3rd solution is purchasing an aftermarket speaker setup that does have this type of connection. I have seen multiple companies with these add ons.
      Hope this helps and sorry that i dont have a positive answer on the usb connection.

    Ok to be clear, there is a customer accessory circuit behind the frunk on the Spyder RT Limited - seems that is the easiest to get to. Also, the isolation fuse block you recommended - does that connect to the accessory circuit connector or somewhere else?

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem +1

      The frunk accesory is the easiest to get to. For the isolation fuse block it is best to go to the products website and see what they recommend doing. There are several different types now and some do have different ways to hook up things. If you want to load your bike with a lot of extras the fuse block is the way to go. Most of the time they connect to the battery directly for power then you connect your turn signals etc to it. Then from there you connect you accessories to a separate spot on the block for add ons.. Hope this all made sense to you

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 2 lety +1

      I would not recommend a cigarette lighter type port. For 2 reasons that you may not be thinking about... space and weather conditions. The circuit CAN handle and support it though. You are limited as to where you can put it and how much is it gonna stick out when plugged in. That is also about the most un-weatherproof thing you can do to your Spyder unless you buy a Marine (boat) type port and even then it is not really waterproof when being used. They usually cost more than regular also. If at all possible I would get a fast charging USB port for it. I put one on mine and use it for GPS and Phone and it has a battery gauge on it as well. I would buy a newer GPS that can be charged by USB and the USB port. It is worth paying $100-$200 dollars versus messing up a $20,000 vehicle. @MOABMAN  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the question and support. I am gonna answer this in the comments but if you need more help please feel free to email me at moab.man@yahoo.com. Having a picture may help of what you have and easier to talk about as well. The splitters will work no matter what can am model you have because they hook up directly to your lights that were purchased, so that will not change. Since I don't have these lights yet I went to their sight and looked at everything before I commented to you so I can speak about it. The main thing that may be a problem is the power harness that you need. It looks like it is the same connections for the F3 as it is for the Ryker and it should be. There is always a chance I am wrong but as far as I know they are the same. The pictures shown were different though, so I want to give you some options with # 3 being what I would do first.
      1. If you are OK with cutting wires and adding connectors, you can always cut and connect them without using the connections from slingmods. Doing so will make it work this way no matter what. The wiring from slingmods uses red for positive and black for ground. The bike has the wiring like shown in the video, but do test before connecting just to make sure which is which on your ride.
      2. The fuse block from slingmods would be good to use for future items as well. The only thing you would have to do is cut the main connector from the lights that was to plug into your motorcycles circuit and connect the red to the + and the black wire to - on the fuse block ports for the turn lights.
      3. The main thing I recommend doing (just incase I am wrong) is contact sljngmods and ask the same thing you did to me. Their help desk people have been great to deal with for me and they will, or should, know for sure what is OK to do. If you never used it, they may be willing to help replace the item for what is needed incase it has to be different.
      I tried to answer you the best I could since I have not physically handled the lights you have. Again, I'd be glad to help you more, if needed, just shoot me an email.

      Thank you for the question. You pretty much said the answer when you said directly connect to the battery. I would not recommend doing it any other way as your computer system will probably not like the surge if you use any circuits on the Spyder. If you are familar with relays then i would include those in the wiring. If not, be sure to fuse it. When looking for the items to use for connection i recommend using anything "Marine" or "boat" because these will be the most waterproof. On youtube there are a lot of videos that can show different ways to do these connections. A lot of jeep wrangler videos will show you ways of hooking up lightbars, air compressors, etc. Instead of a car battery you just hook up to your spyder battery but same process. Hope this helps, but just be aware that compressors and spot lights will drain your battery quickly when the bike is turned off.

      @@MOABMAN Any suggestions on routing? BRP really missed the boat on accessories. If they had installed 12v power ports at each USB location I'd have a limited current 12v power ports that I could convert to usb with any number of adapters. The current setup allows usb devices only. And to give the customer a stereo that can only be utilized with the key on and the rest of the bike powered up is a 'duh' moment. Why not include an accessory mode on the key switch? This should be an aftermarket product designers opportunity here. And yes, each of my 12v power ports will be fused close to the battery. I currently have my battery tender pigtail installed in the front trunk direct connected to the battery and fused at 15 amps. That is my 150w connection for my 12v air compressor connection as well as my charging from the battery tender. The other 2 once installed will probably be fused around 5amps.

      @@robertlarrabee9115 The best advice i can give you on routing is remove all the panels you can, then route the wiring to the main frame/bars and ziptie as much as you can. This way, if you have to have the bike serviced you will know that they dont have to remove the wiring. That is the mindset i suggest you be in for routing the wires. Keep away from metal that heats up and try to wire in permanent locations. Im not sure if this is the answer you were hoping for but i think it is the best recommendation for routing the wires. Most people i know that dont think on this level just lay the wires loosley then blame the Spyder when the wires malfunction or burn.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem +1

      Hope this helps...... first be sure to disconnect your battery before doing any connections. This should/will help prevent any damage.
      Run the positive wire on your GPS to a "+" spot on your fuse block that is labeled "keyed". This should be a blue squared block with the wording "keyed" above it. Then run your negative wire on the GPS to the "-" spot (on the same blue block) on your fuse block. This will turn your GPS off when you turn your ignition off and save your battery from dying. From what I remember about show chrome is they may have about three sections labeled keyed. It doesn't matter which one you use just be sure that the "+" and "-" are in the same square section.
      For the mirror light, run the left mirror positive and negative wires to a green block on the fuse block with the word "left" on it. These will probably be on the opposite side of the blue sections. Run the right mirror to the block labeled "right" and it is a green colored block also. Make sure to connect the "+" to "+" and "-" to "-" for the left and same for the right as well.
      Hope this is what you needed and ask more questions if you need to.

      @@SPYD3RRID3R Your welcome and your first question was a little broad so I'm glad you are asking more so I can help. Dont hesitate to ask anything as this may help others too. I would keep it close to the battery and I believe you should have a little room there. Remove the frunk and you should be able to see an area. You do want to connect the battery wires to the battery and then I would use the auxiliary "+" wire near the front like I show in the video to connect to the keyed wire from the fuse block. I think showchrome has a yellow wire but it should be labeled "keyed +" I believe. I would not recommend placing that fuse block under a seat. It is best when dealing with electrical items to always think "where can I place this where it will not be bothered, touched, or moved at all." There is also room underneath the front panels if you remove them.
      For connecting the brake, running, right and left turn wires on the fuse block it is best to use a tap like the posi-tap connectors to connect to the "+" wires on the spyder.

      To ensure that you get the best help on that i would contact Slingmods. The reason I am saying them is that they have access to all showchrome fuse block models where i dont. They can help you out better with colors of the fuse block and the colors of wires on your year Spyder. They are a great company to deal with as well for product questions. Outside of the US products have different wire coloring for positive or negative sometimes and the Spyder is no exception. I believe slingmods should be able to give you the colors or placement of the wires you will need to connect to for the brake, running, and turn signal. For me it is easy to find the wiring when i am in person and can physically see the wires. If i give you the wrong color or description of the Spyder wiring connections and you hook a + to a - then you can damage your System. If you need help after speaking with them then it is probably best to email me at
      moab.man@yahoo.com
      As it will take a lot of explaining of things if you are unsure in how to even connect the wires together. I do recommend watching my video
      czcams.com/video/iTLkfEtQsNM/video.html
      where i explain using a "Posi-Tap" connector to splice into wires. This will help you when wondering how to tie in to a wire with another wire.
      Hope this helped.

    Can I run a splitter on 1 accessory wire so I can run a usb cable for a quad lock wireless charger and a garmin zumo XT gps? Or do I need to run from two different locations? I have a 2022 f3 base. Thanks for any help.

      @MOABMAN  Před rokem +1

      You can run a splitter and it should charge both. If you want a more professional look, there are dual usb connectors that will fit into one of the two circular openings by you key ignition switch that are there for fog light or a push button switch. I looked on Amazon for a "marine usb dual port connection" and found one that worked. The reason for marine is they are usually waterproof or designed for outsoor use. Hope this helped.

      @@MOABMAN thank you for the quick reply! I’m unsure which route to go now lol. I just put in fog lights with a DRL and it has a shiny silver switch that lights up. It’s the SlingMods version. I guess if the marine grade one is silver as well and I can leave the two plugged in even if it rains that may be the way to go.

      @@Zeroplanetz if it helps, this is the one i bought at the time. I have had it for 4 years now and no issues. I think this looks good but it is a snug fit room wise in between the gas tank. You will have to be careful on how you connect the wiring.

    On my 2019 Spyder RT Limited, are there 3 accs. circuits or just the one up front and on the right?

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před 2 lety

      Very good question and i hope my answer helps. I would use the ones in the front only. For RT models the one that is in the back may be used already for accessories like heated seats, grips, usb plugs, etc. So yes a third does "exist" but may be used by BRP already and therefore is already wired up to something. If you need to install things and want something at the back, i suggest getting an accessory fuse block from Slingmods that you can wire from the front and attach it to the back or middle area. This way you can wire stuff more easily and not concern yourself with messing up anything in the back. An accesory fuse block is the safest route to add extra items as well so your not constantly jiggling or cutting on OEM wiring. If you are dead set on seeing if there is a accessory circuit like what i show, you can ask a dealer/mechanic to show you where or if one exists on your specific model. Again hope this helps and if you need something more than what i answered, ask away and i will do my best to help

      @@MOABMAN thanks for the info. I've asked my dealer where the accs. connections are and only was told the one in the front. Couldn't tell me if there were any more. I may go the fuse block route but have to remove panels anyway to run wires. Just wanted to put a dual USB switched port on the accs panel under the handlebars.

      I did a USB port in the same spot you are wanting. I used the circuit on the side/middle that I show in my video. It will be the same area for your RT. If that is all you are doing I would not do the fuse box, just use the accessory circuit.

      @@bruceadkins6706 One last question, I would like to extend the USB from the Frunk so I can hook up my phone in a cradle on the handle bars. I don't like running the cable outside the Frunk and stringing it around to the holder on the bars. DO you see any problem with extending that USB, maybe bringing it up beside the steering column? I don't know where the Gerry Stahly contact came from--

    I ended up pulling panels off the right side of my 2014 Spyder RT-L, but I could not find the access point. I did not see the tag to identify the connection, and I traced the wires I could see anything obvious. Other ideas? Getting behind the frunk seems next to impossible.

    • @MOABMAN
      @MOABMAN  Před rokem

      Connecting directly to battery would be another option . I think it is page 60 in your manual that talks about a 12 volt power outlet you may be able to use but not sure how many amps are there to use. I think it was the 2015 models and newer when they started tagging the accesory wires. You should be able to get a service manual for that year pretty cheap now and that will show all the wiring diagrams and schematics of the bike. They are good to have if you are going to service yours yourself too.
      The only other thing i can think of is look at any ports ir cigarette lighter type ports in any luggage comprtments you have. You can splice off of those but dont use them for anything else. Do be super careful with overloading a line though. I believe a lot of people have had issues with to many accessories on bikes older than the 2017 models. Could cause limp mode issues if you overload it. Hope this helped any.

      RT models are a pain to remove everything. You may want to invest in the fuse block then just run it to an easy access location. It might be a lot of work at first but will pay off in the long run.

      @SteveSpiderJockey on the RT, looking from the front of the spyder with the Frunk open, at the bak of the Frunk, down low on the RHS, behind a rubber grommet are two wires similar to those shown on the F3 model on this video. these are the accessory wires on an RT.
