    Ryanair uses the force of a hard landing to wake sleeping passengers up so that they can feel fresher once they reach the gate - it’s the little things that make up great service.

    • @lkrnpk

      Yup nothing wakes and freshes you up as a thought you might die. I once almost fell asleep at the wheel, woke up as a truck was blowing its horn, I was in the wrong lane... Sleep was instantly gone and later I was as fresh and concentrated as ever. Since then I do not drive when tired.

    • @SloBar
      @SloBar Před 2 lety +1613

      @Khalid Hadian fair question. It's mainly a combination of type of aircraft and airports we fly into.
      The 737-800 that we mainly fly is an aircraft that needs a firm touchdown by Boeing procedures. Due to the design you also feel it more than with other aircraft e.g. A320.
      We also fly into a lot of smaller airports, with often shorter runways than the major airports. This makes it even more important to make a firm touchdown on exactly the right spot.

    Some of the most enjoyable takeoffs and landings I've had as a passenger were on Ryanair flights. The one to Perpignan once had what sounded like an ex-Mig pilot who tannoyed, "hello welcome to Ryanair flight FR34 to London ok we take off now" followed by instant throttle up, full speed start and a military stick pull to a mad ascent angle 😁 I was loving it! The landing at the other end was absolute butter too.

      @@capnskiddies IIRC, airliner pressurisation systems have delay built in, with maximum rates of change - though there are automatic safety valves in case of emergency which can operate quickly if needed. In any sort of non-emergency descent, you'd be hard pressed to reach a rate of cabin pressure change that would cause injury, without some other factor - which you say was present, as you had a bad cold - this was most likely the cause unfortunately, not the rate of descent :/

    To be fair to Ryanair, they do operate out of secondary airports to save on fees, which usually means a shorter runway. For safety, they land near the numbers with a firm touchdown to give maximum braking action and available runway length. At larger airports, they can land softer though they may already be in the habit of landing 'short-field' so they might still put it down a little rough.

    Summer 2021, landing in Sicily: I've been on many Ryanair flights on this particular route, and in many times of the year too, but the turbulence we got this particular day was so crazy it even got me cringing. I usually find the jostling during turbulence fun, but when you're an idiot that keeps the seatbelt wide like me and you feel your whole ass lose grip with the seat it's not fun anymore lol. Some guy behind us started loudly reciting the rosary and every greasy sicilian grandpa on the flight was having WWII flashbacks, they probably thought it was the americans all over again.
    We finally touch ground and it's almost like instead of the smooth runway, the plane has landed on one whicever swiss-cheese-style roads on the island, basically already preparing everyone for what it's like to drive around in Sicily. My overpriced chips were experiencing what it's like to be in space and the guy who was reciting the rosary was at that point done trying to bribe god to let him survive this flight and had now resorted to threatening. One of the greasy grandpas yelled "this one is crazy!", referring to the captain, who thankfully couldn't hear him and would probably not understand this particular iteration of the palermitan dialect regardless, given the very heavy german accent he had. I fear if he had he would have taken flight again and tried to crash the plane for a second time lol The very young, snazzy crew of flight assistants was cackling at the whole ordeal though. Indeed the shenanigans by the god fearing sicilian grandpas were hilarious lol
    And yes I have worn the seatbelt properly ever since.
    (Jokes aside, this was a one off and I've had a great flight experience with this company during the years 😂 the only issue with this company is that they refrain from letting passengers know that the seats and subsequent leg space are designed for smurfs, small mystical creatures and children under the age of ten, and not normal-sized adults.)

A Ryanair pilot entered the cabin (in full captain's uniform) and quite rudely said to a woman blocking the aisle as she loaded her luggage "Excuse me, I'm a pilot", as if that gave him some sort of authority to get her to move out of his way.
    To this day I regret not asking him if he was needed at the front of the train to fly us back to Scotland. What a dickhead.

      There is something to it. Ryanair run really tight schedules so some of their pilots really do try to get it down Navy-style in order to stop quicker, catch an earlier taxiway, and get to the gate that little bit sooner. It's not a big factor, but it's enough to make it a little more common and that's all you need to make a reputation. Kind of like the difference between a taxi driver and a chauffeur. You'll find smooth operators and Gorillas in both jobs, but they're not exactly the same bell curve.

    Just in case people actually think Ryanair have particularly bad landings, they don't.
    They only use a fleet of 737-800s, which tend to always have harder landings than most other aircraft. This is because of the outdated, low to the ground design they have, combined with their length, making it so that they have to land at higher speeds as they aren't able to flare as much
