  • @benedictypx
    @benedictypx Před 3 lety +8

    I think it really depends on how you’ll ride the bike. The Fuel is an all-around trail bike that is a jack of all trades but master of none. The Remedy leans more towards the Enduro side that excels more in downhill riding but not as good as the Fuel for uphills (I’ll assume that because of the overall geometry of the Remedy.)
    But the Remedy will definitely stand up to a lot more abuse because of its sturdier build and components. I’ll recommend the Remedy since you’ll mostly be sending your new bike down gnarly trails and doing tricks on urban streets.

    Nice vid bro. I placed a deposit on a Fuel EX 8 XT and it should arrive in a few weeks. I normally ride road bikes and this will be my first full suspension mountain bike. Can't wait to hit up some trails!

    I'm beginning to really hate some of the climbs, especially after watching people casually pedal on by me on their e-bikes. I'm seriously considering a Trek e-bike so I can spend more time 'fun' riding and less time wearing myself out on the climbs. Someone said an e-bike is like having a free lift ticket everywhere you ride. Great videos, keep it up!

    I am trek lover and I’ve never rode any of the trek full suspension bikes. I actually have a marlin 6 that I’ve upgraded shocks and other minor stuff which is what brought me to your channel. But I have an older stump jumper that has been nothing short of phenomenal to me. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of your choices. Also, the specialized is 12 years old which is antique in the bike world and I haven’t had to upgrade anything although tires are in the near future. Good luck!

    It’s all about your preference. The remedy is a fun bike with its 27.5 wheels and 160/150mm travel, meant to be tossed and thrashed around, the stump jumper is a do it all bike, good for projects like you said and worth its $$$. I’d personally go with the trek since there are better parts and it is just ready to go, again it will last you years because of its parts and geo :)

    I own a Remedy 8. I live in Kamloops & we have a bunch of hills, some of them steep. I can definitely tell it's not as efficient up hills as other bikes I've had, but it's super fun down hills. I bought it because it is oriented as a BMX feeling bike - hence the 27.5 wheel choice from Trek. If you want jibby, flickable fun, get Remedy. If you want trail riding efficiency and speed get a Fuel.

Recently been really liking the reviews of the YT Jeffsy (has 27.5 option too) and Izzo - pretty awesome builds for $3k (carbon frames too). The Izzo is their first “trail” bike and reviews say it’s great for climbs and descents. Unfortunately not easy to test them out

    If you are willing to spend the money I would definitely go with the remedy. I’ve got a 2019 remedy 8 and it climbs just fine but it opens up a lot more options on the down hill because of the slacker head angle and more travel. It would also be great if you wanted to go to a downhill park like trestle or aspen. You could also look at the remedy 7 which is a bout 500 less

  • @emptychoppa
    @emptychoppa Před 3 lety +1

    I would 100% recommend the Trek Slash range, it’s a big travel 29er so it’s like a remedy with big travel but a 29er so still climbs well, it also has internal storage. I would personally prefer the Trek Slash which is why I am going to get a Trek Slash 7. Doesn’t matter what you get, as long as your having the best time of your life and laughing at the bottom of the trail, then you obviously made a good decision.

    I might have to disagree with you on the climbing of the remedy. I think that for what it is it climbs amazingly. There is also the flip chip that you can change. It basically will raise the bottom bracket hight and make climbing better. You can also add extra engagement in the rear hub giving you less dead zone when you are pedaling. For the money the fuel is great, but you need to look into the future and ask yourself where you see yourself riding and if you will grow out the fuel?

      @MattyActive  Před 3 lety

      Nice! I played for the spinners In Lowell. I either want to get a mid to high tier trek or the base model stumpjumper because I like the color better and would be fun to build it up to something special

      @@MattyActive Building up a lower end model can always be fun too. Let's you learn a lot about how things work and then you can work toward a lot of your own maintenance, which can be fun too in my opinion. I bought a base alloy short travel Stumpjumper this past May (2020 model) and basically upgraded everything but the frame then donated the takeoff parts to some people who could use them. Good luck with whatever you choose. You'll pick a winner either way.

    Hey Matty, have you checked out Norco. They got the fluid FS series which is pretty good too. The Fs1 has a better fork with a RockShox pike. While the trek fuel ex7 has a 35. Got 4 pot brakes by Shimano. Shimano XT/ SLX drivetrain which is super nice for the cost. Plus, the geo is very well thought out for descending and climbing. If I'd be looking for a trail bike for your type of riding, I would go for the Norco, Giant trance or fuel ex7.

  • @daves22re
    @daves22re Před 3 lety +3

    Specialized really prides themselves on their name. There are brands out there that have better spec for less money. I'd stick with trek.
    Between the two treks, it all depends on the riding you want to do. I had a crossroads moment like you did when I was looking at a trail bike vs an enduro. The trail bikes price is handsome and it would work for me at that moment. But, with the enduro bike, its built to take a beating and last you for some time. Yeah, you'll feel the extra weight on the climbs but the amount of fun and monster trucking you'll do on it will more than make up for the climbing. Plus I wanted to do some big mountain rides with the bike and I didn't think that the frame/components would last with my fat ass doing 7 mile long decents.
    I ended up doing with the enduro (giant reign 29er) and never looked back. It pushed me to go faster, shred harder, and tackle tech that I thought was impossible. Yeah the price is steep but, you get components that have been proven and hold up to the abuse for a long time. You can upgrade as you go but, it'll cost more in the long run. I had a rockshox 35 fork on my hardtail. If you get passed the second half of the stroke, it had sticking issues. That was on a fork that I had maybe 2 months worth of riding into it. Ended up upgrading to a yari $500 later.
    Long story short. Buy once, cry once, go with the remedy, and ride the piss out of it :)

      Plus the lyric fork, super deluxe rear shock and a gx build are going to be bulletproof.

  • @andrewross219
    @andrewross219 Před 3 lety +2

    Hey I know I've been stalking you but I'll share my 2cents!
    I originally was going to go Remedy 8. My concern though is it's geometry is old and it's due for an update. Also it seems apparent 29ers are the future.
    For climbing with the Roscoe, the absolute black oval makes a huge difference. I climb pretty well and I'm not the most athletic person.
    I know you haven't been able to find a Slash 8 but the thing is Slash can climb better than a ton of bikes as it is made to do that. In addition it's almost as bad ass as a down hill bike for headed down and shredding. Trek according to my LBS said that the idea behind Slash is to make it more playful than a traditional Enduro bike but be able to also hit really gnarley terrain. It has 170mm up front and 160mm in the back on 29ers.
    With that said, I lucked out and found one about 2 hours from me I'm buying tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes!
    Side note, your videos have been interesting and I think I might start recording and a channel just because you make it look fun.

    @mattj6676 Před 3 lety +1

    Are you really going to ride this winter? It looks like it's getting a little too cold to go out in your area already, so what's the hurry? Over the winter shops will replenish inventories, and some good used gear will be taken in as trade. Give yourself the time to really try out different stuff, I don't get the feeling you hate test rides!
    It will always be cheaper to just buy the bike already built than it will be to buy a new one and replace all those new parts you already paid for with expensive upgrades. If you buy a used one, on the other hand, you can get exactly what you like for probably less money even after upgrades. But that's more of a journey than just buying what you want and hitting the trails, and I think you want to ride mostly right now.
    I agree with the folks saying it's going to be tough to compare those downhill full travel bikes to each other on city streets, it's not really what they're good at.
