Damn right. 100% agree. Smart buy and a great attitude on biking. Old bikes are easy to keep updated as parts wear out. An old bike you can beat up and not give a damn. Just ride it hard. Coming from a person who bought new Toyota truck in 1986 and has been my only daily for 37 years and 482,000 miles. Love driving it every time I get behind the wheel.

Solid video. I agree with you. I was hesitating on going into a 27.5 bike. I had the roscoe, went to a Slash 8 the past few years. Everyone swears by the 29ers. I grabbed the Revel Rail 27 on a 35% off deal. I absolutely love it. So much more fun to ride. 27.5 is underrated. Especially for us shorter folks.

Love the message-get out and have fun. I still use my 1998 Gary Fisher on occassion for commuting to work-it's the only bike I have with a rack, and I love panniers for carrying things. It smooths out the bumpy, paved Clear Creet Trail, which can be a bit rough on the road bike. It's more than capable for a ride up Waterton Canyon, a well-maintained, hard pack gravel road, but I'm not going to take it to the Valmont bike park in Boulder!

That's a heck of a deal you bought that remedy for and the fact that you were able to find one in your size before it got discontinued. I got the Slash 8 and its nearly identically specced to your remedy and it rips. I was dissapointed to hear that remedy won't be available in their line up anymore as I think that every bike company needs a 27.5 performance capable bike in their line up.

Man you hit the nail on the head with this one .. This is one of your Baltimore, Maryland viewers chiming in and I also saw another post you made about the noise you got from a person who basically downplayed your Remedy because you were not a spec geek and you like what you like and ride what you want to ride and they said your Remedy was outdated 🤦🏾‍♂️ . .You and I dialogued a few times when I was making my purchase decisions as a new rider back in the fall of 2020 early winter of 2021 .. I traded out my 2021 Trek Marlin 7 as a new rider who had only been on the bike for a few months tp purchase a 2021 Trek Slash 7 .. I received the same noise and commentary you got basically with others telling me I made a bad move buying the Trek Slash as a newbie because it was too much bike for me and I would be overbiked on everything I was riding as a newbie as well .. I am 6-03 and I weigh 225 pounds and I test rode other bikes with alot of input from others telling me what I should purchase including some Trek store sales people .. The 2021 Trek Slash 7 felt good to me and I was comfortable on it so I bought what grabbed me first time out the gate and I have never been happier .. I also added another hardtail back into my little circle as well .. I just bought a 2022 Trek Roscoe 8 a few months and yes I got noise on that purchase too with other riders telling me because I am 56 years old I should not have spent all of that money on a hardtail and thst I should have bought a E-Bike instead being an older rider 🤷🏿‍♂️ .. I concur with you Matty ride what you want to ride and what makes you happy .. Ignore the noise 😉

I love it Matty! I started off with a hardtail with the rubber V brakes about 5 years ago, during the pandemic started biking more with nothing else to do and my friends all had $2-5,000 bikes. I didn't and still don't make a ton of money with my job. But I started loving it more and riding more so I bought a Polygon Sisku D7 when it was impossible. That bike kicked ass for $1,700 and looked great and I was either leaving my buddies in the dust or right behind the moee advanced crew. I had that for about a year although it was an awesome duel suspension bike, the 120 travel wasn't enough and I was hitting bigger features and going faster. So I sold it for $1,300 to wash some of the cost and got the Marin Alpine Trail 7 for $3,000 (now $2,400). What a bike that is!!! About $800 or so in upgrades and it's all I'm gona need for a while. I love this bike so much. It's my happy place being on that thing and on the trails. Feel like I can relate to your channel so much. A lot of my friends stopped riding in the winter and i bought some cold weather gear and kept at it biking all winter in Albuquerque so i can work on my tech skills and stay in good shape and not have to start over again in spring. Feels so good I can put on 18-22 miles in a ride now. Ill shut up now, lol. I love biking so much I could go on forever. Keep shredding my friend and keep the channel going!!

Honestly, most of the frames are all made in the same factories, name brand down to off brand. If the geometry is the same, you don't need to spend the big dollars on the frame. Spend it on the components.
Get an off brand and frame with the geometry you want, then spend your money on really nice wheel set, hubs, cassette, drivetrain, etc.
If you must do name brand, get them like this: on steep discount.

I dont want big 29" wheels. i have 27.5 on my roscoe 2021 and i`m perfecly happy with those. So I saw the comments on one of your previous videos that likely sparked this video. While it’s easy for me just to say “just ride what you want and who cares what people think”. I really believe it. It’s easy to get caught up in upgraditis and it’s also easy for armchair experts to give their opinion. Of course having a popular CZcams channel exposes the decisions you make on what you ride, how you ride and so on. But at the end of the day, it’s only an opinion and remembering why you started the channel and why you started mtb is what really matters. Keep being “you”because that’s why people come back to watch:)

Put a 160mm 29 in the front of that… it is so good. You may love a 35mm stem as well. Good purchase… and you can make it more “downhill enduro” if you want with the 29 wheel in the front. It makes the wheelbase longer by 15mm if you go 29 and you are still short wheelbase by todays standards. You are in a good place mentally too.. good stuff! Enjoy!

Was looking for this, I'm just average height and I love the roll over of 29s but I don't feel in control of the bike, like I'm just flopping over from side to side to turn on a penny farthing, and I missed how even though it was youth size I always felt like I could slice anywhere I wanted on my old 26 3700. So I wanted to try a mulletable bike next

I just got an amazing deal on a new unused 2022 Remedy 8 XT, it’s my first full suspension bike, it was originally £3445 but I got it for £1895, can’t wait for it to arrive and get shredding again after a 3 year hiatus

I just sold my Remedy 9.8 for a steal to a local kid after upgrading. The Remedy was fun to ride, but to me it felt a bit short in the reach department (despite sizing up) and the seat tube was way too high. Other than those complaints it was so fun to ride.

Trek used to make a bike called the Full Stache. I had a chance to buy one in 2020 and didn't. I've regretted it since.

The thing about numbers and degrees if you don't know anything you'll end up buying a bike that's not for you and i see that alot. I'm so glad I waited a year. Tried different bikes gained some knowledge before I dropped a good chunk of money for my remedy. 9.7 That bike was made for me, lol. The trails I ride its just perfect. Good all the way around.
Mean while I was riding a hard tail that I bought used. And gradually upgraded it.
Specialized comp also a great first bike.

Great advice, Matty. OTOH I think it's also a good idea to get a new bike every 4 years or so because things like the suspension and the bottom bracket start to show the strain and it's sometimes cheaper to buy a new bike than it is to just keep paying for maintenance. The alternative is to learn to DIY all that though. That's how I've kept my Marlin 7 on the trails.

    • @MattyActive
      @MattyActive  Před rokem +1

That’s get to know! I definitely agree it comes to a point where you’d be better off getting a new bike after excessive repairs

@@MattyActive …and component swaps, excluding tires and pedals and grips. You probably saved a ton of money on your newer Marlin 6 by selling your original one.
