@@mrcbuilds Any suggestions for the choke plunger getting stuck in the carb? Couldn't use the air to dislodge it...
@@raziel3358 I would have thought air also. Spray it down with some lubricant, try the air again, I really think that's the best way, Pull the carb off/ take the bowl off, put your thumb over the choke hole and blow air from inside the bowl into the choke passage, your thumb will cause the pressure to build up and hopefully dislodge the choke plunger. good luck, I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Most Excellent! Keep it up!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks, I didn't know the ramp had to be on right and now I have to take my 185 apart again lol
No problem 👍, I hope it helped you out. Thanks for watching and subscribing

@@mrcbuilds i like the way you go about things, and also envy your 3 wheeler collection. Thanks for putting out great content. from virginia
Some times it’s very hard to find air filters for some bikes.
Thats what my 85 Big Red is doing after I decided to start back tinkering on it recently, I had all the jets replaced in the carb years ago an I just stuck it back on the bike but I never started it up since then.
Very common and easy to put the slide in backwards. I'm glad it helped, thanks for watching.
@@mrcbuilds When I made the original comment I was thinking of one of my 200 bikes where the slide screws in the top, I dont remember having to take the slide out of the 250ES carb but i'll double check it, an also see if the idle screw is turned in too much now after the rebuild.
Love your videos my dad had a 200x he bought new and was trying to rebuild top end before he died I now am going to finish but can’t get exhaust bolts off can I leave on and still separate the head any help would be great he would have known how to do it but I no longer have his knowledge
Yes, you can leave the studs in place, burning the rebuild, try heating the bolt/stud up with a torch and while hot extract it.
Hey Thanks for the tips! I have a 83 Honda Big Red 200es, its turns over fine and idles great. But once i've engaged the throttle, even just a little bit, it won't go back to a normal idle. It revs really high will runaway if i throw it in gear. It's almost like once I engage the throttle it won't close all the way? I'm at a loss. Any tips?
Sounds like an air leak, check your valves, check intake boot for cracks.
Clean both carb jets. You should be fine.
I picked up a 1980 Honda 185 ATC in pretty bad shape can you recommend where I can find parts.
Depending on what you need I have links in the descriptions of every video. Amazon and ebay are good sources, so are the online forums like 3wheelerworld.com and honda hoaders on FB.
I got a 200es I’m stumped on with wiring everything
Hi Devon, first thing download the online and free manual from here threewheelermanuals.com/honda. let me know what you find out.
Can I use Rotella T6 15w40 for the engine oil?
Yes, a lot of people like rotella. If your clutches start to slip then you need to go back to a atv oil, like lucas. But again, alot of people use rotella without issue
that happened to my 1982 honda atc tonight
Yes, it very common with a round slide carb.
Hey, thanks for the beginner content! You gotta start somewhere
Yes, everybody does.
Would no air box cause wide open throttle ? Put throttle spring correctly facing the idle adjustment screw
The jet is complete 7 turns in and clean
The cable isn’t pinched and when I played with the choke the throttle calmed down for a second
No, the air box missing would not cause full wide open throttle. What have you changed? Wrong cable could cause it. Leak or crack in intake, valves leaking, plugged passage in the carb. Try those items first .
@@mrcbuilds I got the quad not running at all sitting for years I replaced the starter relay and installed a key/ignition. The thumb throttle is not original and the spring looks little bent out of shape so maybe I’ll get a new cable and spring
Want to work on my 1985 250es bigres

I habe a question. I know nothing about vehicles. My dad had a Honda three wheeler 250 from like ‘85.
He recently replaced the carb and then the next day was excited he fixed the back. He took the grandkids out for rides going sooooo slow like 5mph. Suddenly the throttle sounded like it was stuck he went top speed and it was winding sounding like he needed to downshift (no one saw only heard). He jumped or flew off with my almost 2 year old son and saved his life by taking all the impact. They say my dad died on impact. My son was perfectly fine because my dad was holding him.
It’s tragic but I am trying to understand what went wrong. He never went fast. He was so careful. Did he do soemthing wrong when he replaced the carb????
Your insight would very much be appreciated or anyone that can help me understand a little bit. He had also ordered a new starter that had NOT been installed. But the carb he had replaced a day or so before.
Hi @alainagambardella8100, First let me express my condolences to you, loosing a father is never easy, they seem indestructible your whole life, but in the end they are human too. Your fathers last act on earth was protecting his grandchild, no more valiant way to go than to save another's life. You have asked me a very difficult question, I will do my best to answer it, I am just a hobby mechanic, please know that going in.
The carb on most atv/atc has a double safety, a return spring on the thumb throttle and another spring in the carb body controlling the slide with just a simple cable connecting them. You said this was an 85 Honda with a starter and a 250cc so it must be a 250es big red or a 250sx, the reason I point this out is those both have auto clutches and manual transmissions, the machine would not have shifted into a higher gear on its own, it would only have reved up and gone only as fast as whatever gear it was in ( you said he was going very slow so first or second gear). Had the cable broken the spring in the carb should have closed and the carb returning the engine to idle and stopped. Also both machines have screw in cables at both ends, so the cable could not have been pinched or pulled. There are many reasons for a machine to not return to idle, but I can not think of a single mechanical reason why this specific machine would rev up to the degree you have explained.
Possibly your father had a stroke while riding and holding your child with his left hand and naturally steering and controlling the throttle with his right, as he collapsed he fell forward accelerating the machine thus throwing them off at a faster speed and higher revs.
This makes the most since to me knowing the machine had been running fine earlier in the day.
I can only be certain of 1 thing your father passed away with love in his heart and a smile on his face, I can't think of a better thing to be doing than riding with my daughter. Again I'm am truly sorry for your loss, I am glad to hear your child is ok. I hope this brings you some kind of comfort and closure to the mechanical questions you had.
@@mrcbuilds so he didn’t have a stroke. The autopsy proved he didn’t
It was a red Honda 250sx I believe. He had just replaced the carb by himself... He has ordered a starter that was never put in.
He told my son watch out and held him he was completely coherent before falling because that’s only how my son survived… maybe the cable something weird? I saw this ans was thinking it must be the carb because he has literally just fixed jt. What is so confusing is there are tire marks on the road he was trying to stop and the highway patrol said he died on impact he was going so fast… it’s just a hard thing to understand because he had never even flipped one before or got hurt ever. My mom has a recording of the noise actually but it sounds like it’s flying going so fast.
@@mrcbuilds thank you again for trying to answer my question. He actually was smiling when he passed.
Thanks, your super handsome!..anyway , im struggling with my choke cable on my 300 fourtrax lol. I'm ready to smack some Tamerite on it, lmao
Thank you very much Casey. Whats the cable doing? You can get a replacement cable on amazon or partzilla.com and if you need just the carb side ( spring, needle, cap) you can get that at
223cycles.net
I have the same problem but when I flip the ramp to the right side it don’t go all the way in but when it’s back wards it goes in but then red lines I’m really confused ?
Make sure the needle is not bent, if it is you will need to replace it.
@@mrcbuilds okay I will thank you very much
What if you put it back together correctly but your throttle cable is loose?
If it was tight before you took it apart. You need to take it back apart and find where you got it wrong. I have seen the slide get hung up and the spring not push it down and make the cable slack.
Why does my new throttle cable seem to have no slack/play , my thumb throttle is stiff
I dont know what machine you have, but most have adjustments on one or both ends, loose one end up, until you get the play you want.
@@mrcbuilds I have a Honda atc 125m , the cable acts like it’s too short but it was actually longer than the stock one
Have you had any problems getting the slide out?
Only once. It was rusted inplace for many years. There is a good chance your needle is bent or wedged in its bore. Soak it in pdblaster or try heat the housing.
@@mrcbuilds i’ll give that a try!
@@mrcbuilds heat worked great. Thank you.
@@mrcbuilds needle looks good too!
