Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the importance of cleat type and going above and beyond to really break down all the details when it comes to artificial grass and AG/MG boots. As the father of several boys who spend many hours each week playing football on artificial grass fields, I want to do all I can to reduce the risk of injury. I had no idea how important this issue was before watching your videos. While AG boots are difficult to find near me, I’m glad I can buy some from Unisport! Keep up the great work.

After getting a knee injury using FG boots on AG, now I only use AG boots on AG and I haven’t had any issues in years. I wish Nike still made an AG stud pattern with more studs on the heel… as a 92kg guy sometimes the 4 studs hurt my heels a bit if you land a little bit too heavily on your heels.

I had an fg boot for ag fields, to be specific the adidas copa 19.3 was a mistake, until recently I bought the vapor 15 pro ag-pro best investment of money I made, saved me from being injured plus it was just right in my budget since the pro version is the same as the elite minus the air max unit.

Thank you for this video, such an important topic and couldn't agree more with your top 5! I play almost exclusively on AG (older generation one) and the Puma MG stud pattern is by far the best I've ever used on it, and I tried many different AG stud patterns! It would be very nice if also other brands would offer this kind of stud pattern, because now I can only buy Puma boots. Thankfully Puma is releasing very good boots recently, but it's a shame that the other brands are sleeping on this stud pattern with many short studs.

Here in the US, it is hard to get AG cleats. As an alternate, I recently got Mizuno Morelia neo 3 beta because it has cornicle studs. So far, I have zero complain about it when I play on the artificial ground (turf). Comparing to another boot of mine, nike mercurial vapor 15 elite, I have less pain on my knee, ankle, and pelvis after match. Although soccer boots from mizuno is expensive, it is worth to buy for the people who are in the same situation with me.

Is there a chance you would be able to go into the crucial distinctions between AG and TF boots? I recently just purchased some Tiempo Legend 9 Pro TF boots in hopes to start playing on some local indoor turf pitches and was recommended to go the TF route as opposed to the AG style. I just never got a clear understanding of when/where to choose either AG vs TF. Thanks for the great content by the way!

It depends on the kind of Turf
If it’s very short (like a carpet)you need TF but if it’s more deep like 5mm fake grass go with AG boots

    • @CognizantCheddar
      @CognizantCheddar Před rokem +7

TF boots are okay on cheap, short-bladed AG, *so long as it's dry.* You won't be very explosive out of plants and cuts, but you won't slip, either. Any wet AG pitch is usually going to be a noticeable problem for TF boots. The higher quality the AG pitch, the more problem you'll have.
Indoor AG fields are always dry, obviously, so TF boots should be fine. If it's a high quality AG field (i.e. it has long 'grass' blades), you might consider getting a pair of boots with longer conical studs for the most important matches -- this video's recommendation of Puma MG sole-plates is right on the money -- that sole-plate is basically the perfect middle-ground between a TF boot and an 'aggressive' AG sole-plate.

Tore my rectus femoris last fall and the injury was likely caused over time by playing with FG boots on artificial pitches almost daily for years. Full recovery is 9-10 months and I’m dying to get back to the pitch later this spring. Please, please listen to Jay Mike in this video. Buy AG boots. Prevent injuries. No injury (time away from the beautiful game, physical therapy, money, surgery) is worth playing in FG boots. Just play AG on artificial surfaces, best decision you can make.

I got hurt playing with adizeros many years ago on ag then i switched to regular fg tiempos but the heel was too aggressive (long blades), so i swtiched to copa mundials - not enough grip imo in the rain and i think that is what caused my latest injury. got back to playing after a year bought nike tiempo ag, adidas speedflow .1's ag, but wear my phantom gt elites ag most of the time now. speedflows are junk for protection. been playing on turf for a very long time - i know most kids dont care about stud patterns but when you are in your 30's and everything hurts from playing on turf for so long you will start to care about this stuff. it pisses me off that you can walk into 5 local shops in canada and not one of them would have an ag plate. luckily we can buy shoes these days from unisport or nike directly. wish i had that option when i was young.

From a consumer standpoint, however, even slightly elevated risk of one major injury is enough justification to get proper AG, or at least conical studs.
I would think from a marketing/profit perspective, it would make more sense for them to sell 1 boot, instead of 2 boots that are near as makes no difference. They opening up new tools, extra costs, for what is very much a small difference in the actual product.

Hi, I fully agree, the Puma is really almost perfect shoe, it is the widest of all shoes having approximately 9,8 cm width of outsole at toe box, too sad this amazing shoe is not available for wider feet in e. g. 10,5 cm or 10,75 cm at outsole at toe box, is there a chance to heat up the shoe to a certain temperature in the oven and try widening the harder material at sole to fit?
I think Puma would do great success offering this shoe in an extra wider version, a lot of people would like it a lot is my guess, I played the shoe for two years with a lot of joy in all situations and had to give it up because overlapping of feet with the outsole... I am sad for this but had no choice... I am playing with soft socks like and missing the perfect grip of Puma mg outsole... Kind Regards Denis

Hi Jay, I’m interested in buying a pair of Copa Mundial. I already own a pair of Mundial Team and they’re the best tf boots I’ve ever had: I love the way those old-school, high-quality kangaroo leather boots fit and feel, plus they sell at a fairly cheap price for what you get.
However, since I’ll mostly be wearing them on ag, I’m worried that the studs, despite being conical and less aggressive compared to other boots, might still be too long as they only come in fg setup (or sg for the World Cup, which are obviously out of question).
What do you think about it? I’ve had a look at the Tiempo and the Morelia, but they’re either too expensive or quite hard to find in my size (5/5.5 UK, it depends on how wide they are).
    Thanks!

worst decision of my life. while trying to pass the ball, my boots' studs got caught in the turf; my knee went forward and it hyperextended the wrong way.
tore my acl, and now i need surgery. i wont be able to play football for the next 4 years as im underage to get surgery now. tl;dr, listen to Jay and buy ag boots.
