    Man I hope you for another full rebuild. The way you explain stuff and some good video set up. It would be the only one stop shop for all older mercury tutorials. Great job. Wish there was more lol

    Used to do this without compressors using long dull screwdrivers.Also held crank up by wires to ceiling lowering down slightly. 140 had holes in piston skirts. These motors swallowed reed valves and melted pitons even when slight overheat.No overheat alarm like Evinrudes which ran forever. Power packs and triggers in the distributees a nightmare also.They did run nice when running though.V6 mercs today excellent.Have 2.5 v6 150hp 1996 all original..no corrosion or electronic failures in salt water also.

    I once installed a merc 115 tower of power on its side with butter knives compressing the rings into the block on its side. All depends on your skill set. Never broke a ring yet 👌

    I have have those clamps you know if you take exhaust cover off you can check for broken rings

    Needing some help here, I did not have the piston ring compressors for my 115 so I took each piston off and installed it with a compressor borrowed from Autozone. I used this super sticky assembly lube made by Lucas, put all the top cages in and the needle bearings and dropped the crank in and brought each piston up and put the lower bearing on then the caps, I marked everything and the cages had a shiny end which helped putting them back.. When I diss assembled the motor it did not have any oil in it, so I`m trying to understand these 2 strokes, now that the rotating assembly is in and I`m getting close to having it all together. What do I need to know, Like does it use oil? I don`t think so...? Do I need to clean out the assembly lube before I put it all together, I mean will it harm the inside of the crank case?

    Did you use any type of sealant on the gaskets between the two crankcase halves?

    Why not show the process of checking piston ring gap!!

    What type of sealant did you use between the crank cover & block? My Mercury 70hp calls for loctite. I was wondering if there maybe a better product now. Thanks for sharing!

    What's the difference between all the ring compressors?. Why were they numbered individually?.

    • @cturboaddict
      @cturboaddict  Před 8 lety

      They are all shaped differently to allow clearance of the crankshaft. Pistons run on a pattern or firing order. They are not in a straight line. The different shapes allow you to place them all on at once to clear the crank.

    Hey bro, I can't find the thread, but it was talking about honing. Where did you say that the cylinders had to be honed backwards? What will happen if they were honed spinning clockwise?

      At the beginning you say, you just got done honing and said you did not get a video of it if I heard correctly. I did not get the part where you say the honing must be done counter clockwise.

      I'm sorry bud. I've been getting better at camera placement. It's hard to do by yourself. I've been wanting to get a mic to use for videos as well. I'll look into one for the lower unit work I'll be going at soon. Thanks for the honest tip though, I need these to make my videos better for you guys.
