    I've really enjoyed this series. When I sold my iron 883 for the low rider s, my main reason was so that I can cover more distance and more comfortably. Now that I have the LRS, I miss the sportster and overcoming challenges and growing as a result of doing something difficult or being more creative within the bikes limitations. All classy (and functional) mods!
    When I traded in my Iron 883 for the Pan Am I had a bunch of aftermarket parts that I hadn't installed yet. I gifted them to the shop if they would help other riders out. I got to meet a young lady that got several of the parts for her bike. I'm sure that a few other riders got some goodies for their Sportsters.
    I had the shop install the wide heated grips on the TC Bros high handlebars and they were great! Worked better than the heated grips on my Pan Am. Thicker is far better to actually get your finger tips on the grip, where you need the heat. The Pan Am's grips are thinner, like a dirt bike, and they just don't work all the time. I've heard the same about Triumph's heated grips.
    Looking forward to the videos Joe. The Iron 883 is still one of the Iconically best looking bikes ever!

Funny, i installed the Chumps on mine and new brake line. loved the look and comfort for awhile, but then put the stock bars back on, and installed forward controls, and found that combo was more comfortable. Deja vu for sure. I once toyed with the idea of switching to forwards and I can definitely see how they would make for a great riding triangle with the stock bars. I don’t think I’ll use forwards anytime soon. I like how much more control I have over bike with mids. I’m flexible with my motorcycling opinion, though, so I may install them or use them on a future bike. Maybe a Street Bob someday.

    • @GreatEgret

      HD unfortunately built the ECU for 2021+ for everything except Sportsters so it couldn’t be cracked by aftermarket companies. My understanding is it hasn’t been cracked yet. Vance & Hines still only sells the FP3 for 2018 - 2020 Softail models. So I’m guessing that’s still the case. Hopefully someday they do.

      For me, the wind noise was WAY louder than the exhaust. I have ridiculously small ears, so most ear plugs fall out of my ears. Which is why I use Shoei helmets. • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 2 lety +1

      It’s possible to put a duel disc setup on iron, but I don’t think it’s really necessary on a Sporty. Larger tanks are a different story. Source a 4.5 gallon tank off of a used 48 or buy a new one from Harley. If you’re serious and have a color in mind, I could help you find one. The only hitch is you would need a different seat than the 883 has, but the aftermarket is flush with great seats.

    The only thing I don’t like is the fairing. I like the Road Warrior fairing a lot, but would never get it on a Sportster. I don’t think these tall fairings suit the Sportster very well. Of course that doesn’t negate that they do their job pretty well.
    I have the MS Cafe fairing. People who have it told me it’s pretty good as it takes all the wind away from the chest, and the helmet will move the rest over the head. I think it will be pretty decent when I go on my tours eventually.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 2 lety +1

      Memphis Shades trigger lock mounts are really nice. I just wish they were transferable between styles. The Sport shield mint only fit the del Rey and del rio and the mount used for the road warrior only also fits the Cafe and gauntlet fairings. There are days that I wish I could use the cafe or the road warrior instead of the del Rey, but I have zero interest in swapping mounts that often.

      We all should try different bikes when we can, but, if we're lucky, we will find the one which "clicks". Love your channel for you're optimism and mid-western common sense and intelligence, but got to know you through your Route 66 series. What I love is that you treated a motorcycle for what it was always intended to be - a journey of discovery and adventure, not trying to pigeon hole everything. The Iron 883, and, more importantly, what you do with it, speak to your soul.

      That really means a ton to me David! Mostly because discovery and adventure is exactly what I’m going for on here. I really appreciate all your comments on here and instagram.

    I like my stock seat. How did you buy the brake line replacement? By length or what?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I cut and built my own brake line after installing the handlebars. Here’s the video in which I do it: czcams.com/video/zkvi1n1YKc0/video.html
      And here is the full build series:

    Take those bars to a machine shop and get the knurled marks put in them.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, that was suggested a ton when I installed bars a few years ago. I might do it myself actually, but the problem with engraving a bar that doesn’t have the thickness design for it, it will reduce the surface area for the bars to clamp into and causing just the same amount or more slippage. Tack welds seem to be the best option right now.

      Now I’m going to make myself look wishywashy because I just bought a knurling tool. Video landing sometime in March. 🤘

      @@GreatEgret I don’t think it’s going to reduce the diameter enough to matter. Are 1” HD bars thicker at the mount?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 2 lety

      @@aucklandsadventures not sure about thickness of knurled bars at the mounting point, HD or otherwise. I’ve gotten some good advice from another subscriber who is a machinist. The knurling tool I bought will raise the knurl. Worse that will happen is I’ll suck at it and I’ll need to buy another handlebar.

    You never ask how much you'll drop on customizing 883 and 48s 😂😂 cuz you never stop adding shit to it. Ive had both 883 and multiple 48s and let me tell you i spent more time buying and adding parts than riding it😂😂.

    all so over priced and made in china I cant turn around without dropping several hundred every month new Harleys are $40 K. nuts. and those bars anyone paying that is rich. I just bought same bars on ebay for $56 and they don't slip a bent tube for over $600 you gonna end up living in the park thats what the wife says when I drop a quarter of that. and she's right ,,,how big is your ego. and that seat is junk hard. thats like calling a brick a pillow. ive also been riding Harleys since 1967 still do. you must be a salesman for this stuff.
