    Just picked up this seat for my street bob love the way it hugs the lines of the bike . Definitely a mod to the bike that has both style and function and the wife gives it a thumbs up another plus " for sure. For myself I definitely get a more connected feel to the bike thanks for the heads up on this seat!!

    Joe, I received my Step Up today & installed it & absolutely love it. My bike looks sleeker & narrower & it’s so comfortable, another awesome recommendation from you, got the Chumps, seat & waiting for the sissy bar to come in, thanks for the tips & reviews!

    Thank you for the information, Went to the dealer and ordered a Saddlemem step up for my 2016 street glide. After picking the seat up and installing made the bike show some sleek curves. Its a great seat. I use this seat when going for long rides by myself, no tail bone pain or back pain on a 300 mile ride. It sets me back about an inch farther than the mustang seat that I use when riding 2 up. I'm not a tall guy I stand 5' 7" and it works well for my height, I'm lower to the ground and have a slight bend in my knees when standing right up. HIGHLY RECOMMED THIS SEAT FOR STREET GLIDES.

    I just realized you have really beautiful eyes.
    This is like one of the only reviews that I've seen of any saddlemen seat from someone who has done some real long distance extended saddle time in it.
    I hope the Softail versions of these seats are just as good.

      Aw, shux, I'm blushing. 😀
      What I like about the Dyna and Softail versions of the Step-up is that the step is a bit higher than the Sporty version.

    Best video you have had man. Good shit.
    Your doing it for the 883 folks. I am 1200 XL C 2008 and happy as hell to bed. I want long rides and my stock seat is junk. I am a shorter dude thou 5’6 155. Iv heard your sick ass seat is going to sit you back 2 inch. Great for tall dudes and Iv got forwards. Hope we can talk man. Thanks for all the videos. 👊🏼

    Hey joe, great video as always. I recently followed your example & installed the biltwell chumps on my sportster, i love them! So much improved over stock, you should give forward controls a shot, together with the chumps it makes for quite the comfy ride, pretty sure it’ll be even more comfortable for you with that seat. Also you should do a video detailing your motovlog setup, i love your approach on the matter.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks man! My next bike will definitely have forwards. Hopefully in the next year or so. About a year ago did a video on my motovlogging set up, but some of the information in there isn't relevant anymore because I've improved my process and learned a few skills. I might do a two part series on my setup and how I edit. Hopefully sooner than later.

    I might have to look into that saddleman seat. I have the 883 as I have mentioned and I tried a mustang solo seat. I returned it. it was so hard. and now that you have said it maybe it takes a while before they get comfortable. not sure. also it left about a 2 inche gap between the seat and the tank which I did not like. oh well. will keep looking. thanks for the info.

    That would be cool if they made a version of that seat for a rigid frame. I've been doing some serious considering on my saddle area for the trip to Giddy Up 2019 that's coming up in about three weeks. I'll be carrying some extra springs and a gel pad with me. Then when I get within 50 miles of the event, I'll stop and take all that stuff off and stash it so it'll look like to others that I actually came 650 miles on that hardtail without any extra cush in the seating area. Lol.

    Great Review! The saddlemen stepup was a huge contender when I was choosing my seat upgrade. I ended up going with the Le Pera Daytona Sport, similar form factor but with a more stock appearance. I was thinking about adding the gel, the pros outweigh the cons but one of the biggest gripes I hear about it is that the gel tends to absorb alot of heat and retains it so summer riding can be a little hot on the backside if the bike is sitting out in the sun. Seems like yours treated you well considering I didnt hear any complaining about saddle or back pain, or at least not yet...I'm still working through your videos lol.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 5 lety

      You can't go wrong with LePara. I loved my Aviator. I never felt any heat coming off the seat because of the gel. Oddly, for a black seat, heat was something that didn't impact me.

    • @michaelbillstrom170
      @michaelbillstrom170 Před 5 lety

      I was also debating between the step up and daytona sport. I ended up going with the step up but i still end up with a numb ass. My ass tends to get numb quicker when its warmer out. I may keep an eye out for a daytona sport so i can compare them.

    • @GreatEgret

    • @michaelbillstrom170
      @michaelbillstrom170 Před 5 lety

      Great Egret i got the step up last may and i put around 5000 miles on it last summer. I did a ride from Minneapolis to Eau Claire back in July and around half way i had to keep repositioning myself. You have any ideas to stay comfortable because i really like how this seat looks on my bike?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 5 lety +2

      The handlebars and controls and how you position them play equally an important roll as seat choice and position. I probably adjusted my Biltwell Chumps 30 different times until I found the right position for my comfort. I'm getting new footpegs soon and that may change the entire equation and I'll have to readjust. It's kind of an odd game.

    Hey Egret and thanks for the excellent and compelling video!
    I am getting my Fat bob 114 shortly and I have no doubt that I will switch to Either Saddleman or Corbin or anything else You´d recommend.
    what´s important is the passenger section. When not commuting solo I will be doing a lot of trips with my woman. I will be having a sissy bar so with respect to that, the flatness of the passenger section does not really matter.
    Any guidence or input
    would be greatly appreciated

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 4 lety

      That Step up is so comfy that flatness doesn't really matter, but it's pretty flat. It's the onlt two-piece 2-up seat that I know of that is comfortable and fits between the sissy bar

    Hi joe, an excellent no bullshit reveiw. I currently ride a sport glide with a explorer seat which is comfortable to say the least. But I fancy trying a step up. I'm 5'4" with a 29" inside leg. Will the step up push me further up?. Will I still have the same comfort at 200 miles?. Your thoughts and any suggestions please.
    Regards Gary from Wales UK.

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Gary, the Step up will actually move you back slightly. Not a lot, I’d say no more than a 1/2”. You’ll also have more room to move around on the seat than your explorer. That’s not to say that you’ll slide around. The seat locks you in, but you have the option to move about if you want. Another consideration is the step up will raise the height about 1/2” until after you break it in. This generally is done after about 300-500 miles. I had some long days in the seat on a long distance adventure a few years back. After 200 miles I was still feeling comfortable. After about 350 or so I started feeling uncomfortable, but that’s all Sporty 883 miles. I now have one on my low Rider S and love it. I’m going to get another Sporty soon and I’ll get the Step up for it again. The gel in it is amazing. If you ride with a passenger, they’ll love you more if you get one with the gel in the pillion. Hope that helps. Let me know if you get it and what you think of it.

  • @lenBrill1971
    @lenBrill1971 Před 4 lety +2

    I just started watching and I apologize if you mention it later in the video but I'm wondering how comfortable was it for a passenger?. Is there a gel in the Passenger part as well?

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 4 lety +4

      The passenger part of the seat does have gel in it. It's also pretty comfortable because, unlike other two up Sporty or Dyna seats, it's flat and doesn't have any weird bumps or apexes in the middle. While it's not as comfortable as a passenger seat on a touring bike (that's not really it's purpose) it's comfortable.

      @@GreatEgret This is really great information to know as well. One reason I bought the 883 is to teach Ms Wolf how to ride. I figure that I'll have her on back for a bit, then have her ride while I'm in back to take over the controls while we putt around an empty lot. Then send her to the MSF course.The passenger seat portion doesn't have to be long distance good, just around town kinda good. lol

      With the gel it might help, but rider comfort, including back pain, is much more about the full riding position. This includes the seat, seat position, handlebar hight, handlebar position, and foot position. Look into it all.

  • @RespectfulRevolution
    @RespectfulRevolution Před 2 lety

    Hi Joe, good video (and good charisma on camera, good for you). I currently have a Corbin seat with backrest that I love with the caveat that after about 50K miles the leather is starting to show signs of wear (how shocking right?!?). Also the seat is very smooth and rounded at the butt before going up which makes me move in the saddle in a way that I don't care for). I'm considering having Corbin redo my seat as a "Wall seat") but... your video makes me consider this Saddlemen. Question: even in the worse heat (I live in the Central Valley of CA where the heat is OB-CENE in the summer, and the fires and yadiyadiyada), doesn't the vinyl make your butt sweat? I never ever have this issue with my Corbin seat because it is leather.
    Thanks and I'm going to order one of your Tshirts because... I'm a fan of Great Egrets hahahaha.

      Hey Gerard!! When I first started riding in 2017, I came across the Respectful Revolution channel. In fact, I left a comment on one of your videos about your handelbars as I planned my own long-distance sportster adventures. Your channel reminded me of my community building roots. I am happy to see that you've found your way to my channel. Keep up the good work over at Respectful Revolution!
      The beautiful thing about the Step-up, and most Saddlemen seats, is that they do not feel hot like other seats. It's likely because the vinyl on the Step-up. It is "marine-grade" vinyl, but that makes it sound like boat seats. It's stitched and can breath. The gel also helps out. On other seats, I found that pressure in the wrong places caused sweatiness. using the Saddlemen, especially in hot riding conditions in the southeast, prevented that.
      With that said, the Step-up isn't for everyone. There is no such thing as a perfect motorcycle seat. Like a lot of things inn life, there are things that you need to balance. The shape of the step-up isn't for everyone and it is way more costly than most seats. If your Corbin has worked for you for 50K miles and if you can have them repair it in a way that will continue to work for you, I'd stick with it.
      Don't be a stranger. If you are ever in the midwest, I'd love to meet up! Feel free to reach out to me by email - Joe@greategretmedia.com

      @@GreatEgret Hey Joe, that's awesome !!! Small world, especially the world of long distance riding on Sportsters, right? I'm super glad we reconnect like this. You're probably right about the seat. I'm due to talk to them anyway and I'll see what they can do for me and for how much. Corbin seats are phenomenal and the leather they use is just from another world (with vinyl side panels, they know what they're doing really).
      Thank you for your kind words. I'm really glad if I contributed in any ways in inspiring you travel and travel on a Sportster. The Sportster is truly a terrific bike that's completely undersold, and that's obviously total BS meant to convince people to buy bigger, much more expensive Harley's. We're hitting the road again with my partner this summer, probably her in our truck pulling our R-Pod and me on the bike (BECAUSE LIFE IS SHORT !!!) and we're starting a new series on DIY Affordable Housing. Where are you exactly? (Shoot me an email if you'd like: my name at RespectfulRevolution.org). I love the Midwest and frankly I think it is the new frontier of affordable housing. More and more folks have enough with paying half a mill or something for sheds in desirable places on the coasts or the mountains. That leaves the Midwest open...

    Thanks for these videos! I've taken a couple, several hour, road trips in stock seat and handlebars... I do not look forward to riding my 883 with this current setup. It was so bad that i even contemplated upgrading to a softail with the M8 engine... but the price tag put things at a stopping point for now. lol

    • @GreatEgret
      @GreatEgret  Před 5 lety +1

      I get asked this question a lot, so I really need to go out and measure. I think if you put your butt all the way back, it'll be about an inch further back than than the stock seat. Head to one of Saddlemen's dealers near you. You can try out their seat on you bike for a few day. Also, if not looking for a two-up seat, check out my review of the LePara Aviator. That seat was great for me, but I needed one-piece two-up seat.
      I'm going to be honest, long distance Sporty riding is fun, but definitely not for everyone. You've probably seen my mods video for the Route 66 trip. Those mods made the trip possible. Upgrading to an M8 bike for longer trips might be smart, but it depends on the bike. While riding an M8 Softail Slim yesterday, I thought how comfortable it would be for longer rides, but even that bike would need mods.

      I think I'm just going to mod my current Sporty out, ride it for a while and then go from there. I think simple mods like a new handlebar setup and a new seat would change the bike in a good way!

    Damn, I’m glad I watched this vid. I wasn’t aware that the stock seat is basically goo and can be folded up like this. I had gone ahead and bought the HD pillion seat that has the same stitching as the stock seat. I was planning to modify the stock seat by adding gel for less than a $100 into it to make it more comfortable, but this changed my mind. The seat structure and quality is really atrocious, so no point having work done on it.
    I started looking at different seats. In the end, it came to the Le Pera Tailwhip and this Saddlemen. I have gone ahead and added this Saddlemen into the list since you have the best experience with it doing tours. I bought the HD pillion for nothing now, but I might be able to resell it since it’s still brandnew, and no one sat on it yet.

      Relative to what? It really depends on what seat you have on your bike already and there are far too many seats out there for me to give you an appropriate answer that relates to your current seat. It also depends on how long you’ve been using your current seat as they compress over time. Specific to the step-up: I said in the video that after you break it in, it will sit 1/2” lower than the day you bought it.
