- IT'S TIME!
After all the metal work, welding and grinding it's finally time to body swap the 1955 Chevy Nomad onto its completely rebuilt chassis.
In the summer I did a body swap on my 1957 Chevy Convertible and it did NOT go well. This time around I took my time and built a proper fixture to life the body evenly.
The meat and potatoes of the swap was an A frame gantry style crane. I built it in place out of 4x4 fence posts and 2x4's for added stability. With the fixture built I simply hung a 1 ton chain hoist from the center so I could lift the front of the car.
Around back was a little less fancy. I used the engine crane and simple ran a strap through the window openings and pumped it up.
It was a little unnerving having 3 weeks of solid hard work hanging 4 feet in the air from a couple of chains. Overall it worked out great and was pretty darn safe.

Definitely not the most aesthetically pleasing thing I’ve ever seen but definitely much safer than the last body swap. Thanks for not being squashed like a bug in front of your Mom. I don’t see you putting Norm Abram out of a job anytime soon.
Hopefully you’ll be back in time to put a real paint job on it before he decides it just needs a Black Widowish paint job.
People have been yanking bodies and engines for over 100 years with wood. Of course... Some of that wood is now 100 years old...
Mur, it was dark, but I got a pretty good look at the guy who took your wood!
Remember don't put anything on the internet that can incriminate you.
That gantry was a "Dan Special" Looked like junk but worked a treat. ;D ha ha
That's what I call getting it DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DAMM NICE WORK
Dani did an excellent job swapping out the chassis, glad she could show Dan how to do it the easy way. Great video, glad no Murr's were harmed in the making of this video. thanks for sharing
TWO D'S!!! DYNAMIC DUO!!! GREAT JOB! OUTSTANDING!
Dani is a card...A real Joker. A little added comic relief/drama and sarcasm with her killer Bobcat driving skills. A stellar performance!... The Queen of Tri-5's.
You two are impressive. You adapt and overcome the limitations of a small garage. Thank you for the inspiration !!
That's what I call a positive body image
Dani ,, impressive. Now we know the brains behind the operation.
the DIY 'marriage'...body to chassis...awesome guys, well done!!
What a difference,New frame,quarters,floor and arches.Brill 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
That's how they did it in the old days. Dani is sure handy with that bobcat.
Improvise and overcome that is the American way. Even in far North America. Glad that all three of us are Americans. For your hard work and being wonderful People We give you honorary Citizenship in The United States of America. May you be blessed
Can't wait to see the wagon finished
That A-frame is how the Egyptians built the pyramids, they could only wish for a chain fall 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Dan, Your living your dream!
Believe Jerry Brewer from Tilton Illinois owned this car in 1982 or around that time ,he actually put the lace on the side
Danni….”You Da Woman”…… 👍 👍 👍 Let’s face it, Dan would be lost without you!!!!! 🥰 🤩 😇
Thanks for the help !!! Murr, he is so cool , and Dani, what a body swap !!! hope Dan enjoyed laying on the couch, lol
Well Dan & Dani. That went smoothly 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Dani is regularly Heavy equipment operator. She needs a raise 💲💲💲 we all learned again 👍🏻👍👍👍👍😎
awesome engineering
You should be pretty bloody proud of yourself Dan, rust to riches in 2 weeks. Absolute gun effort!👍🇦🇺🇨🇦
You are building one of my all time favorite rides! So happy to see you building a Nomad!
👍 couldn’t been done with your Expert Supervision, Danni !😂😂
I bet you're neighbors just love you two 👍😎
Dan you've got a great talented woman there nice job Danni❤️
A little backyard engineering, no problem
Awesome!!!!!
One thing you have that I don't is the floor mounted winch. That's a nice, handy piece.
Your staying on top of this job. Even with adverse weather. Thank you for sharing!
Nice work. Probably one of the best back from the dead ever.
Don’t come a knocking when the Nomad is Rocking….😎
D & D, wow!! The Nomad has come a long ways...you've taken a huge piece of junk & made a worthy car out of it.... good job man!!! Be safe, God Bless!!!
You’ve redeemed yourself bigly Dan! I’m no longer angry about your cutting up of one sedan delivery!
Wow, way better than last time. The Nomad is beginning to look like a car, again. Great work.
Wow that's great how your wife did all the work while you was being camera man. Awesome.
Slick job on the hoist good job
Genius and assistant at work. Fantastic job!! Big Al.
It's so Easy... Even a Caveman can do it. Hey hey... Looking Good. Thanks for Sharing
There’s always a way! Looking good! “Stay tuned “
The FrankenNomad is coming along. Very innovative solution for a lift. Well done.
100% improvement over last time! Safety should always come first. I think Dan and Dani had a low stress day with this method. (Except for the midnight heist at Mur's place...I was shocked the neighbors didn't call the RCMP!)
Amazing job !!! Good Vid n Dani should operate Cranes an Snow Plows 🖒🖒🖒
all new metal, no filler makes it a NOMUD...and it's lookin' good nice teamwork too..
I like this method better than the last time! You're getting it done!
Nice job sofar, looking good.
You will remember these times forever!
I totally forgot that you chassis swapped that car, but remember watching clearly now (still the heightened anxiety due to the frame horn and loader bucket proximity😂) man 2yrs ago.. time flies when you’re havin fun!
That is the way to do it. Way to go Dan and Dani.
Like a glove!!! Great video 👍🏻
And they always wondered how the Egyptians moved the stone for the pyramids. Necessity is the mother of invention. Great team work. Great video.
Great video Dan and dani
You have it figured out Dan, a body swap is no problem for you now, great job man
Such a pleasure to see man/wife work together.
As 1,000 viewers, holding their breath, watched every second of this procedure with rapt attention.
Nice job Dani (and Dan)
Dannie the bobcat queen
Judging from the lace paint job on the passenger door, the last time this car saw any action was back in the 70's.
Last episode you said "cold garage floor". Buddy of mine used a mobile home furnace to heat his garage. The heat blows out the bottom. He got a used one for free and changed the jets to run natural gas. (was propane) Set it on some bricks in the corner. Warmest garage I have ever worked in. A guy could find one with the A/C too. Thank you both for doing these videos. I look forward to every episode.
Nice job on the chassis swap Dan, Nomad looks great sitting outside with the fenders on it. I think Danny is a Diva and she sure is good with that Bobcat.. Keep up the good work.
Nice intro.. dani has it down...
Work of art for sure
a million years ago before harbor freight. cherry pickers were extremely EXPENSIVE and hard to find .
I built a A frame to do A motor swap . I built mine from 12 4x4 lol 5 years later I threw another 4x4 across the top and swapped a 8v71 Detroit with it.iwhen so far as to put wheels on it .
It looks so good outside.👍👍👍
Much Safer than the convertible! Nicely done. Calm and steady. You've got the gantry now!
It wasn't a tantrum it was a safety fit....
Back 40 years ago before engine hoists and gantry cranes were common ... we'd put 4x4 posts in the garage rafters to attach our chain hoists to and would pull our engines that way. A long 4x4 post would distribute the weight. I'd still weld some hooks on the bucket of that Bobcat ... it will make hooking up a lot easier.
I was gonna wrench on my car....then I heard the notification that Dan had dropped a new video ! Watched that instead ! Thanks Dan
I knew it! Dani really does all the work; Dan is just an actor pretending to work on cars.
You could pull engines with your winch by putting a pulley atop your frame you made that look easy
Good Job Dani. The right way to swap bodies. Murr wont mind if you replace that wood and the fact that you were safer. Sometimes a plan comes together.
When the video started I was like, heck ya Dani you got this!
CONGRATS -- UV GOT THAT DISTINCTIVE CLASSIC BEAUTY NOMAD LOOK GOING NOW!!
Love the opening and also love that you read the comments and respond
Outstanding AF!!!!
The prices at Mur Lumber can't be beat. The Nomad is gonna be a driver soon. Awesome job saving another one Dans. Easy on Peg's banner Dan.😁

Dude! Your black 57 snow plow was on my google homepage. NICE!
Great job Danni, like the way you handle the BobKitten !
Good job, sure made it look as easy as possible. Looks much more like a whole car now.
That would be handy on next floor replacement.
Of my long hot rod life experience the perfect woman to do it with has eluded me ❤❤❤
well done DD
My adage. KIS. Keep it Simple. You have a good hand on it. Love the Nomad.
That in garage winch is the nutts , great A-frame .
Gettin her done 🤙
You 2 are rockin' it !!!
Your last video with the Christmas tree on the 55 with the plow was hilarious but spot-on for the era, but one thing not right nobody had long hair like that in the 50s....LOL love your content keep it coming..........
That was awesome much easier than last time and safer. Man your kicking butt on this one. Won’t be long we will be cruising with you. 👍😎✌️
That was much better than the ragtop swap. Looking good.
