When The Motor Doesn't Fit, You Cut It In TWO! BEATER 1955 Chevy Nomad Engine Fitment

- This right here is hot rodding 101. Buying a motor with a large sump oil pan always seems like a great idea. Until it doesn't fit.... One of my few gripes with a tri 5 Chevy is the steering design. The steering is all behind the front cross member which causes oil pan and exhaust clearance issues.
A common fix is using a Chevy 2 oil pan, but that costs money and time. The new mill came with a over size Morosso deep sump pan that just needed a little trimming.
So in this video we rebuild the front steering, then cut and weld the oil pan to clear everything. You want an old car? These are the problems you'll encounter daily!
This 1955 Chevy Nomad is well on it's was from beat to sweet!

Thank you for the mention Dan, was alot of fun at the parts shop. I will check about the driver window track tomorrow. I have already made a nice box for the trim. I will stop at the post office for ship quote Monday as option. Nice job modification on oil pan. ✌
I Watched that Video and Liked It for Ya! Very Nice of You to grab that Stuff for Dan!! Good Luck with your Projects.
Me too. That popped up on my suggestions. Spending DD Speed shop's money. I had to watch it and like it!
Thanks for the support guys!
Firing her up really motivates me. It's like it's "back to life". You are a worker my man....that car has come a long, long way.... the engine is the "heart" of the car - bring her to life!!
I think we all love it when Dani is in the shop !
Your channel is my only sub that I purposely look for new uploads. Thanks for that.
With the bulk of the welding done and the motor and trans mounted she's a car. Pretty much at the start of the "all down hill from here." Awesome effort. Thanks for uploading.
i first started watching during the build for Danni's 57, Your Welding confidence has grown out of control since the "T". I'm Diggin' it Brother.
Great way to start my Saturday .
"The chassis hardware is probably Nomad only and super expensive" -- humor at It's finest!
I enjoy watching you work on these old cars man. Just keep up the good work and I'll keep watching.
Great episode as usual! I am always amazed how Dan takes on all of these challenges without any fear or hesitation. Just does it... and makes it work. You can tell he loves this project, especially by the "ill get this jerked off" statement @11:20 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Between you,Brent and Penny's all the hotrods in Manitoba are going to be roadworthy soon. Keep up the good work
Loving it , as usual , Dan ! You are so . . . undaunted . I had to laugh when a Bobcat ad popped up . Don't they know Dani is advertising their product already ? Any who . I was glad you tried some helpful advice on drag link / tie rod end removal w/o a smoke wrench . I'm a fan of never-seize myself . They should call it never clean , because I have yet to use the stuff & Not get some on me somewhere , every time . Life . That's the 2nd oil pan I've seen you modify , w/o hesitation . Considering the project level of this build , extreme , i.e. "roof with a title" & replace what is missing &/or see through , that being most of the rest of it , I'd say you make it look like a walk in the park . We know it's not . The cash outlay stops most of us in our tracks . The hard work stops more . The fact you can make videos without all of the "adjectives" , F@#%* , tells me you have an excellent editor . Kudos Dani ! Keep giving it , Dan ! You are Rocking it !!!
Thanks man! Just gotta keep moving forward till it's done.
There is a little "wrench" for those tie rods. It has a chisel tooth that slips in the groove, then cams against the sleeve. As you put pressure on it, it spreads the sleeve while turning it at the same time. Pretty handy and easy to misplace in the shop too. If you do a lot of these front end parts, it is worth investing in.
Cut a piece of 3 inch exhaust pipe in half, notch the oil pan where center link sits and weld the pipe in
Great video Dan and an excellent job on the pan. I enjoy each explanation on the task at hand. I also cracked up with your comment about old guys and a flip phone. That describes me perfectly. Great way to start my Saturday morning.
Haha thanks gor watchin greg
The old Nomad is shaping up. Heard you say that you're going to paint it. That should be good for a few extra likes.
Single piece oil pan gaskets are the only way to go, good work Dan
You are the man Dan. You make it look easy and a guy like me would take a whole day probably to get it done. Can’t wait to see more. Big Al.
I'm getting quite familiar with Tri-Five Chevrolets, thanks to you!! You make this look easy, because you know what you're doing!! Cheers!!
I'm.just winging it

No you are not🙂
Another great video Dan. Oil pan came out nicely. Keep on trucking it won’t be long now and this beast will come alive. 👍😎✌️
You made that look way to easy!!! Well done Dan & Dani
factory 62-67 Chevy II oil pans have kind of a front sump so they for sure won't fit a trifive. Now I see they make rear sump Chevy II pan conversions. The way it looks one of those probably fits the trifive
13:00 old guys with flip phones... sick burn Dan. The only other way would be to wait until your film is ready to pick up from the chemist...😂😂👍🇦🇺🇨🇦
Dan,,,there's a special tool for tie rod sleaves that hooks onto them that pulls the sleave open, you can use a rachet or johny bar. Harbor frieght or Pricess Auto has em. Cheaper & faster than acetlene. Cheers
In the middle of your video and my power goes out man now I got to get on my phone great video Dan love it keep going
Nice modification of oil pan looked like it had been enlarged for a other application at one time ! working out the little fitment problems one at a time as you move along !Great Job Dan !!!
Bias ply tires give the perfect vintage look to the car, (go well with your wheel choice too). Too bad they're not good enough to drive on when she's done. 😢😢
Another great vid!!!
Great viedo series on the Nomad
Drag race all the tri 5s see who has the best times on the 1/4 mile
Nice job on the oil pan. liked seeing the location of the oil pickup tube at back of pan it will never move and always have plenty of oil to engine. Nice to see what was in the rotating assembly with windage tray, shows it will be one hell of a hot rod engine for the Nomad
Your work bench looks just like mine. I in joy your videos, brings back old memories way down here in Fort Payne Alabama.
This nomad is going to be so nice when you get done Dan you are the man when it comes to tri 5s
A little bit of know how and alot of ingenuity is a wonderful thang. Get'r Done! Aye.
I watch your videos pretty much daily. Love the attitude you n Dani have. Keep it up.
Coming along very nicely Dan. "Dan the Nomad man"
Take back previous msg, guy is a mechanical genius!
I live by the old adage, “If it don’t fit, force it!”
Haha same
Won't be long Dan you will have the heart beating in that bad NOMAD LOOKING REALLY GOOD.
Nice to see you taking your time and not rushing through things on this build. Remember, haste makes waste. With this build costing you your childs college fund , you cant waste too much. lol.
Hags yeah. I want this one done properly
Really nice work on that oil pan. You hicks up there in the frozen north do some fine work. you have one of my
favorite channels
This is my favorite channel.
He's up there. but there are a few other
great ones but not many
I had some doubts on this build but I got to say your doing a hell of job bringing this thing back from the brink of death.
Looking forward to more videos.
Hey Dan!
The absolute easiest way to get those adjusting sleeves off is to:......
...Buy new ones.
Love a Small Block Chevy... And some classic Ram Horns?! I know they ain't staying though... Diggin' it Dan!!
Congrats on your 80 k sub 100k right around the corner go for it DD Speed shop 🚗🚘 ya!!!
Thanks buddy!
Dan I saved alot of room when I put the booster on the interior side of the firewall and just left the master on the engine side; just a thought 🙂
Coming along great, we’re going to love this when it’s done. At some point you’re going to have to decide which one has to go now that you have 6 Tri-Fives.
Yup. There's a few on the chopping block
Love from Pembroke ontario Canada 🇨🇦❤
BW is a cool guy knows his sh¡t!!! His car is gonna be a wheel stander!!! Aggressive power with teeth!! Glad to see you hooking up with the right folks! I'm always amazed of your skills! Rust to Hot Rod! 🚗✨✨
years ago people used to use chevy2 v8 pans...or corvette pans....for these cars....when i did a few v8 vega conversions....i had to use 1 of them...in the 80s the factory chevy2 were getting scarce....so i started useing the corvette pan....
Love the content..you are the fastest hack in the north...keep Givin 'er...
Think they make a one piece rubber so nice. U have great talent living the life
Nice progress, Dan. Adapt, improvise, overcome. That's hot rodding.
Old Dogs can learn new tricks, thanks for the lesson.
Hey now look at that i was about to order a new pan for my own project. Im gunna be giving this a hack.Another awsome video again DD shop thankyou for your time ❤✌
Chop cut and grind haha
That oil pan came out nice, engine looks cool too looking forward to hearing it run. Take care man.
Hi Dan , good work looks great . Its come along way.
Looking Good. Shes come a long way. You did a great job on it... Great Video
Nice welding on the oil pan Dan
You should keep the 55 nomad as your personal vehicle it will be a sweet looking ride
I’m enjoying following your build. This will be a great ride when you finish. It’s fun to watch you problem solve. It may seem like it’s never ending but if you keep at it, you are going to get there. Nice work!
Them welds looked great on the pan. Awesome job Dan
Exciting to see the progress.
Nice modification, can't wait to see this done
Coming along nicely 👌
I saw a video of French Lake Auto Parts. They got a bunch of Tri 5s. saw some wagons with lots of trim.
Great job Dan 🤟
Wow the Nomad is really moving along! Nice job modifying the oil pan and thanks for sharing the DD Speed Shop original tie rod end removal trick!
A great video to start my day!
Hell yeah that's my favorite part sounds.
Another nice one Man, keep it going
It looks awesome Dan !!!
Looking good man!
You’re doing a great job Dan.
Another awesome video bro! Nice work on that oil pan! 👌
Hey Dan, looking better and better each day you work on her. Did you come up with a name for her yet ?
How about Mrs. Frankenstein, she sure was scary looking when you brought her home. I bet 90% of your subscribers would be afraid to take her on. lol Keep up the good job. Looking good day by day.
Bloody brilliant Dan great build
Coming along very nicely dan
Beautiful piece of jewelry for an awesome car. Loving this build . Great work as always Dan!

Nice welding and fabrication 👍
Good job Dan
Looking good dan's
Hey Dan
Awesome as always🙂
Bamboozled into brakes...haha😅
Take care of Yourselves😁
Edit: I remember your adjustment to another oil pan.
Great work on that pan
Looking good man....
Awesome job on oil pan looks good
Pretty cool how you modified the oil pan to fit the center link and sharing the journey to replace the tie rods too
Very Good Job on the oil pan clearance ,,,Good Vid ,Enjoyed !!
Nice job! I had to do the same modification to the oil pan on my big block '55 Chevy Bel Air HT. Depending on your cam and engine vacuum, you may need a remote vacuum can or pump to generate enough boost for the power brakes. I mounted my remote vacuum can on the drivers side cowl side hidden between the fender and cowl. My cam was pretty radical though. Can't wait to hear that beast run. Keep up the good work.
Yeah. I'm hoping this motor is tame enough that it won't b an issue
Looking good!
Thanks Dan!
Nice job Dan. Now to go out to my shop for MY nightmare!
Another great video 👍👍🇨🇱
Great job on the pan! Looks Factory!
The simplest way to do tie rods is to replace the adjustment sleeve and completely throw away the old assembly.
I think the easiest way is buying a restored car
Great job
