In the age of social media-obsessed, narcissistic creatures that think love and loyalty are merely gifts given to them by other people; I can honestly see why the quality and sincerity of a performer like Newton were lost on them. I used to write songs and play the guitar, and for what it's worth I only wish I'd written and performed a song this good just once in my lifetime. Good work mate!

My father moved away and struggled being away from everyone he ever knew and only having his wife and us 3 young kids. He once told my mum when he was nearly out of all hope (coming from a man who has never shed a tear in his life) and ready to give up this song got him through. The toughest years of his life and someone who was never interested in this type of music had just this song to keep him going. Now he owns 3 houses, 2 boats, a caravan and a $800,000 house on the water.

This is such a special song to me. Apart from being a masterpiece of music and lyrics, it's a favourite of my darling son's who passed suddenly aged 40 in June of this year. It makes me cry to listen to it, but it also brings me closer to him. And with my musician friends we are going to re-create our own version of it in his honour. He was a guitarist / singer too and I know he will be listening and smiling at our efforts, probably joining in too.

3 years ago in year 4, this was my teachers fav song, she had taught us the lyrics and every evening we would all sing this in our class. She had told us that Newton's wife had fallen off a bridge or had died in some way, amazing song, about once ive heard it on the radio with some friends, it was the most nostalgic moment ive ever had from a song

Sung this at my year 6 graduation as a year level. Its only now I realise that it actually was the end of my childhood & what a beautiful song to commemorate it. I am 20 & reminisce on that time. I didn’t even realise how sweet life was & how young I was.
