The toes tip is a game changer! Awesome vid dude!
So glad!! I think it’s a big thing for that particular pop-up that can make a world of difference depending on the board you have - super glad it was useful!! 🙏🙏🤙 yewww!
Great examples and explanations of the variations of pop up between longboard and shortboard.
For longboard specific there is also where we pop up and land on the board.. back foot closer to the tail over or just in front of the single fin for fade take offs or stalling pivoting turns, vs the angled pop up feet land in middle of the board allows for quick cross step to the nose on those sections that allow it straight from the take off.
Yessss, of all tutorials, probably best one. Especially difference between pop-up types and board types was very usefull. Managed to do my first dynamic one just now, hyped out of this world. Thanks man!
Thanks Buddy, thorough! 😁
No worries at all!!! Hope it was useful 🤙🤙🙏
Mint! Your a really good teacher 🙏
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that!
Best breakdown of the pop-up I've seen 👍😊
Super glad it was useful!!
Nice demonstration, trying this now
Perfect!! Would love to hear how it goes! And any more questions let me know :) yewww!!! 🙏🤙
great explanations... thanks!
No worries at all!!! Yewww 🙏🤙
I have noticed quite a few expert longboarders pop up by anchoring their back foot first quite far back on the board. Almost like the first part of the rock climber pop up into natural stance without the extra step into goofy. If that makes sense 🙃
Great content Ben 🤙🏻
Thanks heaps David!
Awesome Video Ben! May I ask you the dimensions of the red surfboard? 9 6? W and Thickness?
I am learning on a 7.6 mini mal should I be landing my front foot in centre of the board
For the 3rd pop up, is it better to have the backfoot as close to the back of the board as possible? I notice your back foot lands closer to the center of the board. Ive been practicing my home popups with the back foot on the back of the board. Im sure theres benefits and an appropriate time for each one. Whats the difference?
Dear Ben,
thank you very much for this pop-up breakdown.
I recently switched from shortboards and midlengths to a 9‘4“ longboard, and I love it.
Should have done this transition 10 years ago, hehe…
Anyway, similar to your video, I have the impression, that my pop up is too much „to the front“ of my longboard.
Hence, I always need to make a step back to turn my board propperly…
Could you make an in-depth video on popping up to a kind of „bottom turn“ foot position, please?
That would be super helpful.
Thanks from Blackforest, Germany!
Hey, thanks for your explanation, I have a good popup, very fast, without the toes touching the board, but the problem I see with this "shortboard" kind of popup, my feet are landing in the middle of the board, but I can't turn the board from the middle, so I have to step/cross-step back, wouldn't it be much more efficient to use a popup where the back foot remains over the fin?
Yeah 100% - if popping up in steeper conditions no need to pop all the way through to the middle because we need to engage the tail right away, so I like to say front foot should come as far forwards as about where the hips are placed when you’re lying down and the back foot just a little forward from the fin 🙂🤙🤙

Hi Ben Greats examples do you have any tips for when we need to have our back foot on the tail to a quick turn?
Hey! cheers, hope you're finding them enjoyable/useful!!!
If I understand what you're saying there correcttly you're asking how to position the back foot? I often like it just in front of the tail, but the further the foot is over the fin the more reactive/quicker the turn will be - I may choose this topic for an upcoming episode of the Glide so I hope that clarifies a little further as well!! Let me know if you have any more questions!! yewww !
@@BenConsidine That would be fantastic. I would love to know about this as well.
🍻
🙏🤙
I just cant get my hips to turn. I played other sports that require square hips.
Doing naything other than the quick pop up (unless there is a physical reason you cant) leads to a lifetime of ingrained poor habits. Take the time to learn to pop quickly in one motion. This is from a 50 year old right now trying to learn to do it after 30 years of using the other crap methods and no matter how much i dry train, in the water, I cant get rid of the old habits. It really sucks.
Wait I thought you should never use the toes
Hey!
Certainly this is not necessarily the optimal thing to do - but as a surf coach we do see many different people with different capabilities regarding strength and range of motion, and for those who it is suitable for we can certainly use the toes to allow for extra power to pop the feet through, and even so we can still transition this to the no toe technique with more strength, power and practise. Hope this helps!!! 🙏🤙🙂
Brah, Only one way to do it. All at once. And your back foot should land flat (at the exact same time as your front foot). Just sayin’. Stick it! Peace.
I hope no beginner see this video. ALL your pop ups are wrong for a beginner. The back foot should land flat and be FULLY supported on the board, not just the tip of the foot.
Also look forward when popping up, don't look to the nose of the board.
Sorry m8, but i just had to make this comments.
"back foot should land flat and be FULLY supported on the board" if you want to tear your MCL you are more than welcome to do this. Otherwise, just follow this great tutorial :)
