This channel focuses on combat flight simulators like DCS World and IL-2 Great Battles. If you play either of these games or flight simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and enjoy aviation and dogfighting then this channel is for you. Even if you are coming from War Thunder and BF2042, you can learn to fly these combat flight simulators.
I play using TrackIR5 and do not use VR, this means that I am able to capture footage for tutorials, how-to-guides and other multiplayer tips and tricks video in 1440p.
Eagle Dynamics has made it easier than ever to learn DCS because the game is technically free. The game has the F-15, F-16, Su-27, Mig-29, Mig-21, Mig-19, Mig-15, F-86 Sabre, Jf-17, Mirage 2000, F-18 Hornet and F-14 Tomcat. There are soon other modules coming such as the Mig-23 and F-4. Lastly, there are helicopters like the Mi-24 Hind and AH-64 Apache.
The same is also true for IL-2 Great Battles. With Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kuban, Battle of Bodenplatte, Battle of Moscow and Battle of Normandy being released, there is an immense amount of variety covered. The Bf-109, Fw-190, P-51, Tempest, P-47, Mc.202, Stuka, Ju-88, He-111, and so on are all in the game. I focus on making videos to make that part accessible so you can dive into IL-2 Multiplayer.

Out of all the projects, this is the one that I am most excited for. Having a clean slate to build a solid foundation for a combat flight sim that has scale and dynamic scenarios is really compelling. While we have some time before this project is done, we can for the first time watch the project development from the very beginning. To follow this project more closely, check out:

That's good, one of the biggest issues I feel that modern big sims have (IL-2 and DCS specifically) is having to deal with 30 or even 40 years of legacy code that makes thing difficult to work with.

I would love to someday see you do a retrospective "How we got here" video reviewing the foundational multiplayer combat flightsims like Air Warrior, Fighter Ace, Warbirds and Aces High. While very promising, let me just say that I hope "Combat Pilot" is a working title.
It's an awfully generic, un-google-able name as it will simply give you tons of unrelated hits.
Give the game a real name instead of a basic descriptor, please.
And also consider that the abbreviation will be CP... I won't explain why that is bad, but it's bad. And flight simmers ALWAYS abbreviate game titles: MSFS, DCS and so on. Do you really want them to say "I play CP"?

    • @Nurse_Xochitl

If there are expensive individual modules like DCS, I probably won't buy it.
If there is predatory grinding (unlocks/progression systems based around gear and upgrades inherently give newbies/infrequent players a huge disadvantage especially with monetizing progression - Pay To Progress IS still P2W ) /P2W mechanics (including premiums) like Worse Torture (War Thunder), I 100% definitely won't be buying it.
If there is a subscription, I 100% definitely won't be buying it.
Lastly, if the game doesn't run on older/weaker hardware... like a GTX 1050 and a quad core CPU... I probably won't buy it either.
Also no offline single player = no purchase. I like single player, especially since most modern games have driven me to absolutely hate multiplayer with predatory grinding/P2W mechanics... on top of the infestation of cheaters (and anti-cheats that don't work and break Linux compatibility - BTW no Linux compatibility also means no purchase). I happen to have bad internet also, I live in the country... so having even more of a disadvantage with that sucks. I know War Thunder is full of issues, but I bet my shitty monopolized DSL connection is at least partly to blame on top of Gayjin's negligence (predatory grinding, P2W mechanics, crap matchmaking, Russian and German bias, bad maps, etc.).

I am very curious and excited to see how they take their RTS brains and apply it to a dynamic campaign, ala how BMS campaign was approached as a RTS. The main thing I look for in a dog fight sim is the damage model. I personally think that the more realistic the damage is, the more it feels to being closer to real life. That is why I love 1946. The damage model for that time is amazing. I hate that in some Sim, you have a health bar. If you are flying a mission andtakinge rounds and some lucky bullet hits the right part of the engine or wing and somehow disables your plane, that is probably what would happen in real life. This also means that even if you play the same mission over, it won't be the same game play.

I also like barnstorming and just flying around and mucking about. The reason I mostly play single player is I like to fly to chill out at the end of the night before I go to bed. For me it's simple. As a former pilot that has flown real aircraft from that era, I want to be in a cockpit that is as close to real as possible, within the limits of sim design of course. Then create an environment designed to the same degree. In short I want to be there. Something close to a "holodeck" would be desirable. If only I could climb out the the cockpit and walk over to the club for a post mission drink. If you can get anywhere close to that, then I would say, "mission accomplished."
Before the advent of VR, I quit flying sims because I finally got tired of sitting a room looking at a screen. VR opened a whole new dimension of flight for me as it put me back in those cockpits I remembered. I would rate the HMD as the greatest technical advance to date in the world of flight sims. It's the only way I fly.
I tell you what would really make a sim come to life are the unique odors peculiar to the aircraft of that era. Scarred, corroding, aluminum, zinc chromate primer, nitrate/butyrate dope, oiled wood, vulcanized rubber, worn leather, quilted padding, 80-150 octane avgas, mil-spec 5606 hydraulic fluid, 60-90 wt burnt lubricating oil and grease. These odors bring back memories to those who have been there and would add a unique perspective and another level of realism to those trying it out for the first time. Climb into any WWII aircraft and those odors are still there. Not sure how this could be programmed into a sim, but if it could be bottled . . .

I hope they put serious effort into optimizing the game, as not everyone has new powerful hardware. If anything, better optimization may allow for normal "non-gaming" laptops and portable handheld gaming PCs (like the Steam Deck) to run the game.

Look, what I am looking for in a flight sim to feel like I was transported to a parallel world where I’m a fighter pilot and it really FEELS like I’m flying and fighting a warbird or a jet. That means it should feel alive I.E. there is activity on the ground, ATC is talking to me, there are other flights, ships sailing around. Etc etc. full fidelity inside the cockpit is nice, but not end all be all

Just looking at the screenshots I’d say you’re on the right track. I’m licking my chops. Here’s some suggestions. There’s a lot of history in the Pacific Theater. Make several campaigns get the history right! Keep adding them after you’ve put them on the market. Listening to you talk while I’m writing this I can tell you understand the nature of this part of the war. Stay true to the history in the campaign mod and you can’t go wrong.

  • @djbiscuit1818

The question of vibe at 17:00 was a really important one, and IMO didn't get a very thorough answer. I'd hesitate to say it was "dodged," but the basic structure of what combat pilot is trying to *do* should still be answerable relatively early.
Given Jason's experience and portfolio, I'd expect something similar to Il-2, but that's a pretty wide range of possible products. I'd be very interested to hear more concrete details on what to expect.
EDIT: The follow-up at ~35 mins was reassuring, the balance between fidelity and scale can be quite delicate to strike properly and I'm hopeful entropy aero will nail it :)

    • @combatpilotsim
      @combatpilotsim Před 9 měsíci +2

I didn't try to dodge anything, but saying today, what we will for sure have months and years from now is a fool's errand. If we fail to bring something, will just be called a liar and thief. Been there done that before even when promised things from long time employees who had never failed me before only to face the wrath of upset customers when something didn't pan out. I'm just being realistic and a little careful.
