Did Sanctions Actually Hit Russian Families and How Exactly
Vložit

- Sanctions have hit Russian and Russian people hard and, of course, the way of life we used to have just months ago is different now.
But how much did things change? Is anything getting better or even worse now? What is the actual affect on different sides of being a family man in Russia?

Here in Australia the sanctions are hitting us hard in the form of high cost of energy, rent, healthcare and groceries. Oh wait…that’s not sanctions, it’s corporate greed.

I accidentally found your video and I am glad you are sharing this. I arrived in Yekaterinburg few days ago after being away for 9 months. I had to deal with right VPN but I also found there's no much difference as before in terms of living quality. But, yes, shops are with full of quality products and there are more new modern apartments being built. New restaurants are open, which I really enjoyed today. I think the life here became even better. People will find jobs since companies need to replace foreign brands and products with local brands and products. Thank you for your report.
This made me nostalgic for when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's. We had the best, most fun, playground equipment, considered dangerous today. It seemed like the whole culture was centered around kids. I see that in Russia now.
I came from the United Kingdom originally but have lived in Australia for many years. It makes one wonder why there's the continued degree of friction or mistrust between Russia and the 'West' (or is it the rest?). I look at people in the video walking around, shopping, kids playing and apart from the the very noticeable big blocks of apartments (flats/units) that could be anywhere in many places in Australia. I didn't see anyone who looked like they wanted world domination!
Thanks for sharing.

Thinking of my own city in the UK (Birmingham) we also have shops underneath our apartment blocks. The parks you have out there are great and the kids look as though they are having fun - what is cool is seeing tables for chess and for table tennis which we tend not to have here.
In reality, we are all the same as we strive for the same things, its just our cultures that are different.
I follow Alex and Valeria on the Different Russia channel and learnt from them that you can buy an apartment that has the utilities and is just a shell and that the home owner employs someone like Alex to turn it into a home. I have also noticed that there are playgrounds for the children around the apartment blocks.
I hope that your job stays secure Zangieff and thanks for sharing your beautiful country with us. One day, I hope to visit - it has been a dream of mine to visit St Basil's in Moscow.

It's awesome how your residential buildings have shops on the ground floor. Here in the US that's not really a thing, except for like older buildings in bigger cities that have been remodeled....but even then, it's usually some super bougie restaurant that nobody ever goes to, and it ends up closing. The apartment buildings I've lived in, I would have loved to be able to just take the elevator down to get to the liquor store, or pharmacy, or market.

I know only few good projects, where there is good shopping and services infrastructure. But this is very rare, 90% of those projects are simple developer's Mordor.

Zangieff, I live in Australia and I raised a family while I was paying a mortgage. Both my wife and I were working and some months, we were strugling to keep our heads above water. Some people might think that life is easy in Australia or America, but that is not true for most people. Clearly, it is also hard to raise a family and pay a mortgage in Moscow too, but life is not easy anywhere in this world, and in some countries, it is less easy than others.
On another note, I notice that in Russian cities most people live in small apartments. How is it that a country like Russia, with the biggest land mass in the world, and people do not live in normal homes. Surely, your government can make land very affordable for families to build a home, because Russia is a vast country and there is plenty of land.
Russians simply love their apartments - we have apts for any taste and income level, it's also the matter of proximity to work or school or entertainment, and good city planning. Even those who buy mansions in the suburbs often sell them and come back to the city for the sake of convenience.
Depends on the city or the town people live in. In towns living is a house is common. In big cities everyone lives in condos and many people own a cottage in a countryside. If you live in house in Moscow, you will end up with commuting 3 hours one way to your work.
Dear Burt, Russia is indeed large and there’s a lot of land they can use. There are many government programs which people can use, such as “free hectares” across the country. Any citizen may claim 1 hectare of land free of charge (depending on the region there may be differences in purposes for the land, but generally the land can be used to build a house for living, for gardens, for agriculture/farming, and many other types of businesses). So, a family of 4 may get 4 hectares free of charge. The condition is - you gotta use the land, you can’t just get it free of charge from the government and then resell it later on, to prevent fraud, the govt gives you a free “lease” for 5 years, if after 5 years you used the land - you’ve built a house or business etc - then you get it officially transferred to your full ownership. This is just one of the Governments land schemes. The thing with cities though, it is virtually impossible to allow people to have stand alone houses. Think of it, Moscow has over 12 million residents, that’s roughly half of the population of Australia living in ONE city. Can you imagine what would happen if all of them had villas and houses? The size of Moscow would stretch beyond imaginable and would cause massive infrastructure issues. So this is what large megapolis living is like, it’s got nothing to do with the availability of land in the country. + as much as Russians like to whinge/cry about their “terrible” life, the absolute majority of them have a townhouse called “dacha”. This is a sort of a summer house, or simply house located outside of the city where you can grow anything you like, have bbqs, and do whatever etc. so this too plays a huge role, it’s not just stone jungles for them. In Australia, only a few people can afford a second holiday house, it is considered luxury. In Russia, they all have it and it’s considered “average” ordinary thing.
I would also like to say this: russians have been brainwashed by the western media for 2 decades, they get the general perception of the western countries as what you’d see in Hollywood - they assume everything is super lavish and luxurious, people don’t have to work, they get super high salaries and their costs of living are next to nothing. Of course this is not true, but this is the general perception Russians have. So, when they compare their life to this western illusion - they think that everything is absolutely terrible about their country. They don’t know what they have and they’re eager to black wash it not realising that what they have is GOLD and is SO MUCH BETTER than in most of western countries.
Anywhere in the world u will find condos and apartments in major cities rather than landed terraces. Be it in Moscow, Sydney, NY, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Milan anywhere in the world. Its a fact. Juz use common sense to understand why.
@@xmyxymx Всё так и есть!👍
Thanks for showing around such a beautiful place of Russia during the hard time. 😀👍👍
It's great to see people are still interested in learning about Russia.
An honest guy, so I subbed!
Oh no. The tree @12:03...is sick. Branches with no leaves. The trees look like that here in the Boston, MA area. The trees are sick and dying on a massive scale and "no one seems to notice". First time here on your channel. I would have loved to see your reaction to my local (Boston) Russian "Babushka Grocery" stores. I'm talking a a few years ago when I took my Latvian father to either "Babushka" (poor quality) or "Bazaar" (good quality) grocery stores. We could always tell the older customers who grew up in the old Soviet Union. No smiles. No eye contact. Interesting to see from a Moscow Family perspective. Good show.
5 STARS!

I love the idea of having cafes and stores in the ground floor of residential buildings. I remember seeing this in Moscow, Minsk, and some other cities in former USSR. Thanks for the nice video Zangieff. You're such a great vlogger!!
This is a very Chinese type development . Very common in China .
Nicer Colour tho.
This type of development is standard in East Asia like China or Korea.
In Berlin also
Hey 👋 thank you for this informative CZcams session…. It’s been good to see the way every day people are living! And glad to hear food remains more or else accessible
Love your vided bro. Keep up the good vibes Zangieff from Trinidad & Tobago with love.
Thanks 😊
This deserves much more views, but I don't think YT would allow that to happen.
I know this feeling. I have been making honest videos about Russia for years and youtube does not like it!!!
