Life Under Sanctions in Provincial Russia

  • Provincial Russia is notorious for low income, bad roads, excessive drinking, gopniks and many more stereotypes. Potentially economic sanctions against Russia could make life of people even worse, with only 250$ of monthly state pension and increasing prices, how can the majority of Russian population survive?
This time I tried to show Russia from a probably unknown for you angle, spending 3 days in provincial city of Engels to share life I saw with my own eyes.

Watching your video from the US, I want to say that I have great respect for the Russian people, their heartiness, resilience, groundedness, and genuine joy for life. I love your country even though I have never been there, but watched hundreds of documentaries on Russia, and more often than not what we get spoonfed here in the US about your country is a megaload of BS and lies. We're all people living on the same planet, breathing the same air, having the same needs, and in our hearts are all united, regardless of politics and the shots that the elite call. You're making excellent videos, portraying your country and its people in a way that is much of a joy to watch, and also learn! Unbiased, firsthand experiences is what we need, not censored and regulated propaganda. So thank you for your wonderful work, and keep it up!

Totally agree. Most countries have citizens who only want to live in peace and love, but who, due to political leadership in their own or other countries, have to live in an unstable society. @@cyberfunk3793 Most people do not want war. I was not alone in thinking about the Ukraine war. More generally on war. For ordinary Russians, they do not have access to a free and independent press. They are being fed misinformation by the Kremlin-controlled media. If you as a citizen are constantly given misinformation - such as that your own country may be attacked, you will possibly be tricked into believing that war is right. What I was trying to say is that people generally want to live in peace.

Throughout the week he travels with his sales waggon to 4 different local fresh markets in our area.
But I must admit I haven’t been to the market in 20 years or so …. I am to lazy I guess 😅.
Haha, another thing I haven’t done in a long time (40 years?) is going by bus to the city 😅. But with my car being ruined by a HGW lorry (sliced the entire driver’s side open while it was parked outside a friends house) awaiting either repair or written off status from the insurance I thought I buy a 9€ ticket valid for a month to get me about using public transport. I could travel the country 24/7 by train (except the high speed trains), busses, trams, subways, any sort of public transport except aircraft. The bus ride to the city was comfortable and done in 25 minutes. Going by car would have taken just as long. But on the busses face mask are mandatory and that’s good to see.

Are Americans and Westerners brutal aswell then? Don't be hipocritical.
The Usa is still bullying Cuba because Cuba dared to not be a client state of the Hegemonic Usa, if you're a small country next to a powerful one you have to be careful how you operate, the same way the Usa is punishing Cuba for making the wrong choices according to the Usa, the same way Russia is punishing Ukraine for making the wrong choices according to Russia.
Politicians in Kiev made one mistake after another starting with removing the president in 2014 from his position, naively thinking (or rather hoping) Russia would just let it slide and let Ukraine become part of the West, including Nato and EU or let Kiev bomb the populations to death in the separatist regions in Donbas.

And how much do you really need to have a happy, healthy childhood anyway? Eli did a video on some of the forgotten cities in Russia and that was quite sad and moving, but it was also inevitable in some respects.
Nothing really lasts for ever and as industry and work changes so do cities and towns. I know from my own life that we lost the local shows, the local produce, and it all got consolidated to chains of supermarkets. I only wish I could find a greengrocer, a butcher and a baker still.
