This video is 5 yrs old now, yet I find myself watching and enjoying it like it was filmed just yesterday. In 2015 I dreamt of having one. Flash forward and to my own surprise...I finally have a Z06, w/ the z07 package. Only in America!
That's awesome, you should definitely enjoy that car. I've been wanting one for the last year and when the market comes down a bit more, I plan on picking up a targa top z06 with the 7 speed manual. The c8 is a huge disappointment imo

Of course he gets no tickets. Jay hires off duty cops, at overtime pay, to provide the rolling roadblocks he uses for his Mulholland test rides. He also gives his time to do stand-up for all the police charity events. He'd have to kill someone, live on camera, to get arrested in California. Tickets? I don't think so.
It's simple, to beat this car, you have to spend $1 million for a McLaren P1, Porsche 918 or the LaFerrari. The Z06 is my favorite car. An american car that offers the same performance and quality as many european exotics at half the price. What is there not to love? Jay is right. Being american does give me a sense of pride. God bless america, and thank you General Motors for producing an EPIC car!

Just bought a Z06 convertable with manual trans this year. 2015. Absolutely amazing.
As a UK guy, i have to say.... WELL done Chevvy. I'm absolutely hankering for one of these things on my streets!! imo this things is trading blows with ALL the big boys and winning, incredible machine.

May 2023 I bought a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, convertible, in Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic, with Kalahari interior. I am out of a 2011 CTS-V, and the Vette is awesome. Thanks for the video!

The hoods of the new vettes are to light for the latches to work properly without giving it a good amount of force.

Jay grew up about 20 miles from where i live and despite his fame and money he doesn't seem to have forgotten his roots!
GTR owner here from UK, I must admit I absolutely love the new Corvette, sounds absolutely epic, as others have said you can't beat the sound of an American V8. It would be great if GM would stick the steering wheel on the other side and import them properly through dealers in the UK.
The steering wheel has been said for yrs. Problem here GM is pulling out in UK. Some changes would be needed to switch sides. If the demand was great I do think GM would look into it. Because there is some cost in developing, I doubt a switch will be done.
Johnny641 Lotus Elise owner from America, I absolutely love all well-engineered European (and foreign) vehicles, because like you, I'm not "playing for a specific team" like most ignorant auto-enthusiasts. Johnny, you've re-inspired my faith in auto-enthusiast, I thought all Europeans senselessly hated us for our big V8's, It's epic to see a car-enthusiast that can "like outside his box". Cheers brother! :D
Problem is most Euro boys are pompous dbags that like to hate on anything American and consider all Euro cars superior so sales of the Corvette is quite low in that region, no reason for GM to waste money retooling their factories to produce them with steering wheels on the other side.
Son37Lumiere Thought it wouldn't be long before some one had to add a Troll comment. The reason sales are low for the likes of Corvette etc.. in Europe are high import costs and no local support for warranty/parts as GM generally will not import them. Nothing to do with car enthusiasts "hating on America". The Mustang will be sold as a right hand drive for UK and it has been well received so far.

I watch Top Gear UK, I see them consistently bash America and American cars. I also have met many Europeans who have said as much, that American cars are cheaply made junk, they're cheap because of the bailouts, they will never be a Ferrari blah blah blah. Even with import taxes and VAT, etc. they are generally cheaper than Euro counterparts, this car is still significantly cheaper than Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren etc. Of course there are exceptions but not too many, Norway loves American cars. Having said that, the new C7 and Z06 are too good for most of them to ignore now.
I moved to Ohio in 1993 to work there for 3 years. I knew NOTHING about American cars but had fun trying them out. I bought a C4 Corvette which I still have today and still love driving it as much now as I did back then. My everyday car, now I'm back in the UK, is an A250 AMG Merc, which I love to drive and is a lot of fun but is not a Corvette. Jay, thanks for the Z06 review. If you want to try a Corvette out in the UK we, the Classic Corvette Club UK, would love to help you out, you are welcome over here any time :)

When the c7 came out i didn't like it much. I was like the c6 is the best it ever got.. 4-5 years later and finally I love the c7! Test drove a z06 last August and I fell inlove with the power! I currently own a 16 z06 3lz. There are alot of little annoying things I don't like but you can live with them.

They said you could open the top at speeds up to 30 MPH. I wonder what would happen at 220. Can the Z06 even go that fast?

My guess is Shad didn’t know about that little hood thingy, it’s a common thing with this very light weight carbon fibre hon on the z06, there’s no weight in the dam thing to get enough inertia to lock itself, no biggie, the sacrifices we make for light carbon fibre, :)

The hood latches on both sides, so you've got to push down on both sides. Maybe if the hood was heavier it wouldn't be an issue, but the hood is closing properly.

Supercharged, 650 hp/torque, 3200 lbs, super low center of gravity... I'm so looking forward to what they are gonna build 5 years after. Probably gonna be able to afford one.

I’m 50 and I absolutely love those tail lights. I think the tail lights look fantastic the quad exhaust in the middle looks fantastic the whole car is just a dream.
The tail lights were an acquired taste,a few yrs later I love them & the fact that they're clear on the Z.

***** I think you mean Oldsmobile not Pontiac, and no it is not a gas engine. It was a total separate casting made for diesel use. Come on you really think a thin cast cylinder wall made for gas would live with a diesels high cylinder pressure. All though a lot were converted to gas because of the poor performance the diesel had. Oldsmobile legend Joe Mondello used to sell the conversion kit.

I always enjoy how you relate to these cars, and the hype surrounding them, from a real world perspective. Your use of humour to elucidate its position to others is both smart and entertaining. Yes, there are always compromises in every vehicle on the road. But there are often good reasons for most of those choices, and you manoeuvre your perspective in light of these with verve. Yes, this vehicle does shame the outrageous price tags, lack of availability and cost of running and servicing of the 'exotics'. It's also a damn shame they are not made in right hand drive. I know they would be welcomed in Australia.

The moment the guy realizes that the hood didn't clip on the drivers side and doesn't want to interrupt Jay while his talking so positively about that gorgeous machine, classic! ,but as an owner of a c5 z06 I know that the angle of the push down counts a lot, and in its way you build a relationship with the car, learning it's odd ends and angles, love my car as much as a man can love a machine and 14 years later it can still rip the doors off of a new 2015 mustang 5.0 hehe.

The Viper engine is made to be tuned, and it's naturally aspirated. There are tuned viper engines that have over 1,500 HP.

The Vette is supercharged, the Viper is N/A.
Interesting point made by Jay, talking about the bailout. Because of what happened, the leaders of the company went from businessmen to engineers. I'm impressed not just because the Vette is an awesome car, but the improvements in industrial engineering that makes them able to mass-produce them at such a good price!

That 8 speed auto is good for two things only--Traffic, and drag racing, otherwise, I 'd keep my 6 spd maual Vette, even drag racing there's nothing like shifting hard and fast!
Hard and fast? You might be able to shift "harder" in manual, but a modern automatic always shifts faster than any human these days. Manual is more fun. Automatic is faster.

I love the interior improvements of the C7. What I don't like is the fact that this Z06 is 400lbs heavier than the C6 version. Also miss the LS7.
Stiffer chassis does push weight up. New side impact and frontal crash standards are reasons for weight gain too. If I'm not mistaken there are around 4 air bags in this vehicle.

I was driving to the store here in FL and I got next to one of these Z06's. It was a hard top, red black wheels....nice car!!
I have the previous version. Base. Love it. Over 6 years and nearly 70Kmi and it still feels new. Nothings broken. Just normal wear parts. Biggest upgrade I made was switching to Michelin PSS non EMTs. Totally transforms the car from those miserable Goodyear F1 EMTs. As nice as the new Z06 is, it's STILL not enough to get me out of my '13. BTW, I average almost 23 mpg. In a 200 mph car. Amazing....
The only reason that it's easy to pick on old corvette's interiors is because they used the exact same steering wheel as a Cavalier. As a Cavalier owner, it makes me giggle. Maybe I should take my wheel off and replace it with one with the Corvette badge...

Its the same on this one... a lot of the switches inside are gm-standard parts. Indicator-stalks are the same as on the opel/vauxhall insignia. But why not? Ist just a switch! No need to overdo it. Or what do you think the price is coming from? :-)

its similar design wise, but definitely not the same steering wheel, airbag cover aside. It is a lot of pulling from the gm-parts bin though.

I can't say I watch all of Jays videos but I watch a lot of them and this guy, Chad was the 2nd guy in all of the videos I've watched that was truly professional. I also got the feeling with the Koenigsegg guy, despite english being his 2nd language he did really well.
