  • Sichem Falcon assisted during nightshift...
    Summary :
The beginning of the movie shows some ships leaving the lock. The first one is the Frances Wonsild (01:20) , and the second one is the SCL Basilea (06:40)
The 3th one is the Sichem Falcon which we connect at the stern after leaving the lock.
    Summary :
09:30 : Moving over to the other side of the lock preparing to connect the ship
14:30 Sichem Falcon leaving the lock
17:00 Initiating manoeuvre to follow the ship
17:50 Heaving line thrown on the deck
    18:52 Winching out towing cable
19:39 Confirmation that towing cable is secure on the deck
19:45 Winching out the desired lenght of the towing cable
26:15 Starting the indirect pull to portside in order to swing the ship 180°
26:55 Changing from indirect to direct pull (ships speed was too slow at that moment to pull indirect)
29:00 End of swing manoeuvre, lowering rpm

Yes, thank you for explaining what the button is next to the wheel. Also in one of the first multi camera setups you had the throttle buttons were low speed toward the bottom. These last two you have the camera reversed so the low speed is up. Not a problem at all as it was easy to figure out what these two rows of buttons did.
I really like these videos. Gives one a feeling of how ponderous the movement is in these bigger ships. Akin to small boats like the sailboats I drove around but much slower to respond to control inputs.
Thanks very much for the glimpse into the world of the Harbor Tug....

Again a great video ! One question though :
When you start lowering the engine's rpm, it looks like you passed through the other "notches" (950 to 700 rpm, 700 to 500, etc. These are fake values). Why not going directly to 950 to 500 rpm directly ? Will it damage the engines ?
    I hope this is understandable ... :s

+Tyconniendu59 Good question ! :) Lowering the RPM is indeed not required to do in steps, but sometimes we do this. When raising the RPM it's better to do this in steps or else you will get allot of black smoke sometimes. Alltough, sometimes we need the RPm fast and then we use raise the rpm from minimum to maximum in 1 step.
