  • This was a fun one, I didn't expect the AI to take advantage as well as it did. It seems in terms of monarch points, they are programmed quite well to make sure to use them!

    I figured that the natives would be buffed. With so many monarch points, the only barrier to teching up is the points cap, which is much higher for them.

    • @flamingas
      @flamingas Před 3 lety

      Though the points cap is directly tied to tech cost penalty from institutions, so the two balance each other out.

    • @zoetje1760
      @zoetje1760 Před 3 lety +19

      @@flamingas Not true. The base cost of tech is 600, and the base monarch point cap is 999. The maximum penalty per institution is 50%. so in 1500 ( two institutions) the natives would have a tech cost of 1200 and a monarch point cap of 1998, 1998-1200=798 points above the requirement for the tech. In comparison, Western nations like Florence, would have a tech cost of 600*1.5=900 and would have a cap of 999*1.5=~1500 and 900-1500=600 this is a difference of 198 point, and every year ahead of time would add 60 points to the tech, meaning that, on average, natives would get the technology 3 years earlier than a Western country.

    • @zoetje1760
      @zoetje1760 Před 3 lety

      @Mykolas Karpavičius I’m not sure who of us mis miscalculated, but I think it’s closer to this: the western nations embrace all institutions, the natives have none embraced yet. For the Western nations this would us a monarch power cap of 999*1=999 and a tech cost of 600*1=600. 999-600= 333, if you then 333/60=~5 years of tech ahead of time. Natives would have a tech cost of 600*3.5=2100 and a cap of 999*3.5=3496. This would result in 3496-2100= 1396/60=~23 years ahead of time. This effectively proves that, if not for the bonuses that you get by embracing institutions, it would be more effective to NOT embrace any institutions.

    • @flamingas
      @flamingas Před 3 lety +1

      @@zoetje1760 It really depends on whether the ahead of time value is additive or multiplicative with other modifiers. I can't find the formula on eu4 wiki and can't open the game to test and make sure.

    • @zoetje1760
      @zoetje1760 Před 3 lety

      @@flamingas I’m not 100% sure, last time I played it was 1.30.5, I think. But I do know that *most* of the modifiers are additive. Ofcourse this is not enough to be certain, but I’m still pretty sure. EDIT: I tested it and confirmed it is, indeed, additive.

    Something this made me think of that could be cool... Rather than just rolling their stats 0-999, have it be that they're still 0-6 like normal. When a ruler dies, their stats are added to their heir. Idea being that heir would pass to their heir, who would pass to the next heir, etc. I'm not sure how to implement it, but I think it's a cool concept.

    • @spritemcfakename8458
      @spritemcfakename8458 Před 3 lety +20

      It'd be interesting to see if a snowball effect happens from nations that get monarch power bonuses like Prussia/Austria/Mantua, since an extra few mil/dip points each ruler could potentially add up over time. Lucky nations too, if they're enabled.

    It would be cool to see "EU4 but all dynasties are nations" according to the starting dynasties of course. Ideas are easy as most cultures only have one country but there are cases where it can get interesting (I think Spain would be united from the start for example or Habsburgs might have land here there and the same goes for Wittelsbach. Republics could stay unchanged so Dithmarschen is still Dithmarschen etc.
    It would also be cool to see all government reforms as a country, meaning that all monarchies are a one single country, all bishoprics are a one country, all monastic orders are a one country etc. The country name could just be the name of the governmental type like "Bishoprics" "monarchies" etc. They could also have the idea sets of the best representative of that government type so papal ideas for the Bishopric and so on.

    I feel like Denmark is way underpowered in this game. The AI loses badly in every single game, thereas historically we (denmark) was a menace that had to be blocked by the other great powers several times to prevent a conquest of all scandinavia. ;)
    I think the issue is the lack of the Sound Dues. It was a massive source of revenue for the danish crown, as much as two thirds of the danish revenue in the 16th and 17th century. It allowed Denmark to field an outsized army and navy.
    This should be something Denmark and the other scandinavian nations (as well as other nations with control over a critical seaway?) can choose to implement, but with hefty hits to diplomacy and maybe some negative events where other countries get a casus belli to get them to stop doing it? Primarily the biggest trading countries affected, such as the Hanseatic league(Lubeck) or Great Britain. These things happened historically as well.
