  • With months of planning and 1000's of kilometres apart 4 CZcamsrs decided to go on a journey together into one of the remotest regions in Africa, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). Not only did we enter the CKGR, but we transversed it's great plains from North to South. A journey that took us 12 days to complete with plenty of challenges in the way. From rain, to capturing wildlife at it's very best in terms of kills, punctures and far far too many snakes, it was an adventure second to none.
    In this episode we head from the very North of the CKGR and exit out the South at Xade Gate. Before we get there we need to traverse roads drenched by heavy rain and far far too much water and mud. The goal is clear, make it to Piper pan, Piper Pan is one of those places that explains beauty and then uplifts it to all new levels. I have a special place in my heart for Piper Pan and always long to be there. As always this place doesn't disappoint us, the beauty, the majestic setting, the animals and the extreme tranquility that it offers.
    Join us on our adventure as we head further South on the CKGR2020 trip, or more fondly know as crossing the Kalahari. At this point in the journey we all start to realise the FUEL STRESS (did we take enough) is a real thing, the thick sand eating away at precious litres of fuel every single metre we drive in this harsh landscape of thick sand and isolation....will we make it out?!?!?!?
    I hope you enjoy this video as much as we enjoy bringing it to you...

    Very clever trick changing the tyre. I would have been hunting for something to stabilize a jack.... you simply dug a hole. Very neat trick. I’m going to use it and tell everyone it was my genius. 🤣🤣👍🏻

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  Před 4 lety

      Sometimes it's easier to make it less complicated, the jack wasn't lifting because of the sand so the only option was going down instead of up 🤣😂🤣😂

    Remember to turn off Image stabilizer in the future when filming. Especially when you are using the telescopic end of the lens! You can notice the vibration at 5:25 section when you are shooting the watering buffaloes!

      Hey Jimmy, thanks for the feedback man - i actually hate that lens, it's almost impossible to hold still unless on a tripod, that was a 75-300mm lens, honestly i hate the thing lol, it doesn't have an image stabilizer on it at all, the tiniest of movements is visible on it...it's frustrating to say the least...

    Hi, you showed in the video the fortuner bottoming out as a result of the Replacement bumper, I see you have the spare wheel still on the door, I just bought a new cruiser 76, my question is can the rear door handle the spare wheel weight.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Morris, yeah it can no issue at all, we've never had a problem with ours at all... and we're using MT's...

    • @morrisdutoit850
      @morrisdutoit850 Před 4 lety

      @@MyLifeinAfrica You mentioned MT are they BF Goodrich, how do you find them, I need to fit a size bigger than factory, what do you suggest, the vehicle will only be used for overlanding

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  Před 4 lety

      Hi Morris, yeah they are MT's, we are using the General Grabber X3's, the size we are using is 235/75/16, remember though the bigger you go the more it will weigh in on your fuel consumption. For the 76's i have seen guys using 285/75/16 which look great, also 33's but for me i am just not a fan of a massive tyre. Is there a specific reason you want to go bigger or is it about the look? What size are you running now?

    • @morrisdutoit850
      @morrisdutoit850 Před 4 lety

      @@MyLifeinAfrica thanks for the reply, standard is 265/70/16, the cruiser forum also suggests 285/75/16, I also feel it is to big, will touch body and suspension when articulating, I wanted to go 265/75/16, but I like your tyre size of 235/75/16, the cruiser forum a bigger tyre can drop by 200 rpm, did you experience this, this is my first V8 so new to this..

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  Před 4 lety

      I went from 265/70/16's to this current size, so the tyre is narrower than before but find i get quite a bit more height. I have not had any drop in RPM as i never went up in size at all. There is an app you can get for Android phones to compare sizes i have put the link in here for you:
      play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.stephenzone.tireexpert&gl=ZA

  • @jonathanneethling
    @jonathanneethling Před 4 lety

    @ 10:48 someone mentions they’re using 21liters per hundred. Was that because of the heat and soft sand? And how much spare fuel were you carrying on this trip?
    Also, how much did you spend in fuel in total?

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  Před 4 lety

      Hey Jonathan, yeah the thick sand tends to eat your fuel in this route. It's extremely slow going from Xade to Bape and the later in the day you drive the hotter and thinner the sand gets making it tougher to drive. If i exclude going from CT to JHB the fuel spend for me was about R5000...i used 3 jerry cans of extra fuel to cross the kalahari plus my 180ltr tank...
