The Ummayad Dynasty | 705CE - 750CE | The Birth of Islam Episode 07

  • Abd al-Malik, during his lifetime, consolidated Umayyad rule over the Islamic Empire. At the time of his death in 705 CE, he had left behind a monarchy, powerful enough to challenge any force on the planet and on the brink of expanding into Europe.
In this episode, I discuss the Ummayad Caliphs after Abd al-Malik including Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz and the conquests that happened around this time like the Conquest of Sindh and the Conquest of Spain. I also discuss the early causes of the rebellions against the Caliphate that eventually led to the Abbasid Revolution.
    Additional Facts:
    1) Abd al-Malik is considered one of the greatest Caliphs due to his contributions to the empire. He modernized it by installing a postal service and minting currency. He also constructed the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.
    2) Muhammad ibn Qasim’s legacy is very prominent in Modern-day Pakistan now. Port Qasim in Karachi is named after him. In this photo, the ruins an old mosque built in his name can be seen in Sukhur, Sindh.
    3) Anas ibn Malik was a volunteer servant to Muhammad, not a slave. Muhammad did hold slaves but none after the first revelation. He did, however, have concubines and even had a son with one. The son passed away at a young age.
    4) Anas was very close to Muhammad and is witness to many Hadiths. According to tradition, Muhammad blessed Anas for his service. As a “result”, he went on to live a little over a century and had around 80 children.
    5) It’s said that when Umar was a prince he used to wear a robe worth 1200 Riyals alone which would rub across the ground as he would walk. When he became Caliph, his entire outfit, during his inaugural address, cost 3 Riyals.

      @billbir6113 Před 5 lety +4

@@ahamedihamiyun5927 As a Sunni Muslim I believe Yazid was a Fasiq or a sinner and did not have the right to be Caliph. As one of our great Sunni Imams Ahmed ibn Hanbal said: "How can a Muslim ever love Yazid?" Yazid caused so much distress and chaos in the short time he was Caliph. He was responsible for the death of Hussein ibn Ali (RA) the grandson of the Prophet (SAW). He was responsible for the Sack of Madinah in the battle of Harrah where Yazid's army destroyed, killed, raped, and pillaged the holy city of the Prophet. They killed so much Sahaba and children of Sahaba. They killed the children and grandchildren of Abu Bakr, Umar, Talha. So as a Sunni Salafi Muslim I consider Yazid a Fasiq. Let's be clear though his father Muawiyah was a Sahabi whom I love and admire. And Allah knows best.

Tomb of Umar II was the only tomb that as preserved by Abbasids
    They destroyed the rest apparently
Umar II passed the law that all Muslims don't have to pay just a tax regardless of being Arab or none Arab
Under the new tax policy, converted mawali would not pay the jizya, but upon conversion, their land would become the property of the villages and remain liable to the full rate of the kharaj, or land tax. This compensated for the loss of income due to the diminished jizya tax base.
He undertook extensive public works in Persia, Khorasan and north Africa including the construction of canals, roads, rest houses for travellers and medical dispensaries
    He made other reforms:
State officials were excluded from entering into any business.
    Unpaid labour was made illegal.
Pasture lands and game reserves, which were reserved for the family of the dignitaries, were evenly distributed among the poor for the purpose of cultivation.
He urged to all of the officials to listen the complaints of the people and during any occasion, he used to announce that if any subject had seen any officer mistreating others, he should report him to the leader and will be given a reward ranging from 100 to 300 dirhams.
They didn't kill him cause of the they were losing money
They killed him because they were losing power and they were greedy and fearful of none Arabs as governers which would have had happened under Umar II
    Very underrated ruler

🕋Imam Ali Speech in (Rashid Caliphate period) About Esteblishment Ummayad Dynasty by Arabs after him🕋
📜As if I see (him - Mowayia and Banu Ummaya), he (the Enjoiner of Evil-Ummayad Rulers) is shouting in Syria (Ash-Sham) and is extending his banners to the outskirts of Kufah(Ali's Caliphate) . He is bent towards it like the biting of the She-camel. He has covered the ground with heads(Massacre of Muslims in Mecca, Madinah Kufah and other Muslim areas) . His mouth is wide open(from Africa to Asia and Europe) and (the trampling of) his footsteps on the ground have become heavy(Pharoahs of Arab Worldl) . His advance is broad(Ahle Sunnat Waljamayat) and his attacks are severe(La illaha illalah Muhammad u Rasuluaah) .
By Allah, he will disperse you throughout the earth (Status of Muslims in 21st Century) till only a few of you remain(Shiyaan-e-Ali) , like kohl in the eye. You will continue like this till the Arabs return to their sense(Appearance of Mehdi) . You should therefore stick to established ways(Quran and Ahle Bait-Following deccident of Prophet) , clear signs(Imam) and the early period which has the lasting virtues of the Prophethood(Rashid Caliph Ali) . You should know that Satan makes his ways easy so that you may follow him on his heels(Ummayads breed of Islam) .📜

Just a correction on Gibraltar. It comes from Jabal Tariq, not Jabal al-Tariq. the former means the "Mountain of Tariq", the latter means the "Mountain of the Tariq", which doesnt make much sense in Arabic given that context.

      @@ishrakmohammad7307 How did Ayesha die?
"Muawiya invited Ayesha for dinner, and he got a ditch dug in the ground, filling it up with sharp knives and swords, with their blades facing upwards. According to Alama Ibn Khaldoon, Muawiya masked that ditch with lanky pieces of wood, and spread a carpet on top of it all to camouflage it. He placed a wooden chair over it for Ayesha to sit. No sooner Ayesha sat on the chair, the whole set up retrieved and she fell in the pit, injuring herself from head to toe, and breaking a lot of bones. To hide his felony, Muawiya got the ditched filled up with lime. That is how he murdered Ayesha; she was sixty four years old when Mauweyah murdered her towards the end of 57 Hijri.
This proves, without a doubt, that Muawiya was an enemy of Prophet Mohammed (sawa), and he proved his enmity towards the Prophet (sawa) by murdering his (sawa) wife. The only reason that Mauweyah performed this heinous act was that Ayesha stopped him from making fun of Islam from the pulpit of Masjid-e-Nabvi.. This is why no one knows the exact location of Ayesha’s grave in Medina."
He killed Ayesha in cold blood after ordering the killing of her brother Muhammad bin Abu Bakar. He was also responsible for the killings of many other companions of the Prophet (sawa) including Hajar bin Adi and Ammar Yasir.
Following the death of Muhammad bin ‘Abu Bakr the people of Egypt gave bayyah to Muawiya . It was following this (event) that Ayesha would curse Muawiya and Amr bin Aas after every Salaat.

You brushed through Abdelmalik ibn Marwan, but he was probably one of the most important figures in Islam. He build the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, and was the first to put the full shahada on a coin, including Muhammad's name on money for the first time in history (coins from the time of Mu'awiya had his name with a cross on top, making some historians think that he might have been a Christian). It's also speculated by Revisionist historians that Mecca's location had been changed during his time, from somewhere near Petra in Jordan, to its current location, maybe under his orders. And he might have also played a big role in determining the finalized version of the Koran.

The location of Makkah is pretty solid which is the current location. Makkah existed prior to Islam as confirmed by Greek and Roman travellers and also from records by the inhabitants of Makkah. Also many of the relatives of Muhammad i.e the Quraish tribe along with other tribes still live in the region. Lastly all the physical evidence like the place of Muhammad and the places he frequented are marked. It is documented in details where each individuals lived, who have been involved both with and against Muhammad around the revelation of Islam.
In fact the location of Makkah is confirmed in the Bible as being at the south of mount sinai. Which is a mountain at the northern region of Saudi Arabia. Which If you know the geography, means Makkah is the south of that said mountain.
