I don't understand why this is such a big deal in the USA, in Europe some schools offer AP courses and many people have perfect scores on them. It's not uncommon for students to graduate with upwards of 13 AP exams, all of which they scored 5 on.
It's easy to score a 5, but it is extremely difficult to obtain a perfect score (meaning not a single point taken off) on an AP exam, not to mention that it was the BC calc exam.
By a perfect score, they don't mean getting a 5, they're saying he got every single point possible on the test, something only accomplished by 9 other kids WORLDWIDE.
