  • In this video we introduce a Traditional Concentrated Patina called Blackened Steel. Blackened Steel provides a grey to black patina on iron and steel but by diluting it with distilled water, blues can be formed too. On zinc and galvanized, it will go light brown to black depending on concentration. Concentrated patinas must be diluted with distilled water but otherwise work similar to other cold reactive finishes in the Traditional lines.

I generally use wax on black steel because I can put it on the steel whilst it’s slightly damp. If I let it fully dry rust forms so I’ve never used a spray. I would love to be able to seal the finish in as I find waxed finished can tend to rust after awhile or go slightly orange.
Can your spray be applied on damp steel?
I make large pieces of furniture so it’s difficult to dry and then immediately coat.
    Thanks

No you cannot use the Clear Guard over damp steel, that will cause rust and poor clear coat adhesion. Take a look at the Sculpt Nouveau Metal Oil. You can put that on, then seal it with Clear Guard or Ever Clear 3-4 days later.

Ok that sounds great, I’ll order some and give it a go.

How does this compare to Black Magic?

Good question. This one is concentrated so coverage goes further. At higher concentration, it will go black like Black Magic but at low concentration that blue comes out unlike Black Magic.

@sculptnouveau Oh ok. Is one better than the other as far as flash rusting after final rinse?

@@_GrindByDesign Typically Black Magic prevents flash rusting better.
