  • The Glaive! Adam is beside himself coming face to face with this uniquely memorable hand prop from the 1983 sci-fi fantasy film Krull! The five-bladed Glaive was so memorable in its design, and we take a close look at the working mechanism on its underside that unsheathes the blade tips.

Mmm, I think once I got the Glaive home, it would immediately go into the protective display case, never to be toyed with again!
Yeah right, I would totally be operating the blades, over an over again… heck, I’d have it on my nightstand, just hoping to deploy it menacingly against some unsuspecting intruder. 😈

Krull was my absolute favorite movie when I was a kid. My dad introduced me to fantasy and scifi and this was an early movie we watched together. I was so crushed when cyclops died trying to save his friends. I don't care how cheesy the movie is. It makes me think of my dad and how much we both share a love of fantasy and sci-fi. We didn't have a lot but we always had this. I am so grateful that we still do... almost 40 som... ÷>#&$&÷,÷&$ years later.
This prop video is my favorite thus far. Adam's enthusiasm.. his recognition of Krull's place in history but that he still "get's" it. I could not be more happy.

I still love Krull. There is some parts of the film that bleed old vfx and some 80s dialogue cheese that is fun. Yet, overall, these also give the film its charm. The Sci-Fi Warriors from space using Magic in a Fantasy setting is quite unique. The score was great, the stop motion glass spider with the sands of time in the large web. The Emerald Seer and the creepy assassins that form black eyes. Slayers that die and some weird worm slug runs out of their head into the ground. The Cyclops.... Ergo the magician with his excellent lines. Firemares racing across the sky. A classic hero saves the maiden love story where their love is the power that defeats the Beast. That Black Fortress was magical and could change. It was so imaginative. Then the glaive at the end made the finale really exciting. Sorry. Did I mention I like this film? Great to see the prop. I has always wondered if it was double sided when the knives went out. This answered that 40 year old question.

Amazing. So fun to see these iconic props up close and personal. It makes me realise how props, costumes, miniatures, etc, can be taken for granted, in terms of their beauty and intricacies. I really enjoy learning about all these movies props and pieces. Thanks for giving us a glimpse behind the curtain.

I just watched Krull for the millionth time just a couple days ago...I always thought it was funny that firemares could run 1000 leagues in a day, a league being 3 miles on land so that's 3000 miles in a day, & capable of literally running so fast that they can actually defy gravity & run through the air, but you can totally round them up & trap them in a box canyon on regular horses & some guys on foot...one of the greatest wtfs in cinematic history! I love that movie! And I've always wanted to see the back side of that thing...this is so cool!!! I wish I could afford that thing!

I remember seeing KRULL when it came out, on a drive-in screen about 4 times the size of an IMax screen.
the audio was over an AM radio station.
it tripled with the opener,..."Hercules" starring an over-dubbed Lou Ferrigno, and finished with "Blue Thunder" starring Roy Scheider.
what a great "Drive-In" line up!

I have been waiting for this reveal since I saw it in the opening setup for this auction. I was surprised that Adam didn't put all 5 blade in and set them off at once. I don't think I could have resisted had it been in my hand. I saw Krull in the theater the summer of 83, and loved it. I am sure I can not afford this piece, but it would be a great one for any movie collector.

  • @JeffPDX1

I saw Krull at a special engagement on a wide format cinemascope? screen back in '83. The lobby had pictures and 'props' from the film- including a glave. I often wondered if it was an actual prop. The sad part is there probably weren't 50 people in attendance at the theatre that easily held hundreds. Box office poison is an understatement. Same theatre hosted the San Diego sneak preview of Blade Runner. Much larger crowd.

I had seen the iconic glaive before of course, but i had never seen the movie, glad that i did and yeah, that prop is one of the crown pieces of B-movie history.

Our family saw Krull in the theater back when it released in 1983. I was in my teens. Despite the criticisms it got, it became a cult classic. It even had a still somewhat unknown Liam Neeson in it, which this was his ~4th movie thus far. One of my favorite memorable parts of the movie were the enemy soldiers, who were basically worm-squids inside battle armor. I would not be surprised if they were inadvertently a part of the inspiration for the Goa'uld in Stargate SG-1 almost 15 years later. I also liked the enemy soldier weapons which shot out glowing arrows, which resembled laser blaster shots from films such as Star Wars. It was a nice take on the laser blaster, except in this case they looked closer to me like short crossbow arrows. It was a fine film & it could potentially be a nice film to reboot, whether as a standalone movie or a television series (mini or episodic) to expound & lengthen on the story. Or even a prequel or sequel. There's a possible universe canon that could be stretched out for this fantasy film which is sort of a cross between Lord of the Rings & maybe the aforementioned Star Wars.

The glaive is, of course, awesome, as well as being the most iconic prop in the film. But for me, I always loved the guards escorting Lyssa in the beginning. Their armor & weapons were just so cool-looking, and I haven't seen those same props being used in any other movies which makes 'em even more unique.
