    Great video! I didnt want to take any chances pick the incorrect sizes, so I copied your exact set up! I’m glad you did the comparison of tires and talked about using the spare is needed! This was my biggest concern when purchasing the wheels and tires..... a discount tire rep did the calculations and told me the spare would work perfectly. Thanks for your time and effort, much appreciated

    Thanks for the video Rick. I ve been running the same wheels and tyres in the snow here in Austria. Note: we had a record winter with the heaviest snowfalls since 10years. I have to admit the Xv with the Methods and the BFGs is performing really well in snow. Other cars had snow chains installed where my car was just driving without any problems. Rick,
    Thank you for making these videos. I’ve been watching them for months and they help me decide to purchase a 2019 crosstrek limited a month ago. I love it and I have already put 2000 miles on the car lol! I took one camping trip that involved about an hour of off-road (Idyllwild - San Bernardino) and although the car performed great the 18 inch wheels/tires were awful! I was afraid I’d puncture them as you did with yours.
    I’m ready to get the Method/KO2s but have worries about road noise and tire wear since this is mainly driven on highway (off-road once a month maybe). The reviews are assuring with regards to tire wear, but I still worry about the road noise. I think I’ll just have to pull the trigger and see how it is!
    Also, love watching the videos on the 911. I have a 97’ M3 I use for similar purposes (sits in the garage most of the time) - and love having the crosstrek as the daily! Keep up the videos they are all well produced and have great information!
    -Chris

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Před 4 lety

      HI Chris, thank you for the kind words and for watching along with the videos! I really appreciate it and thanks for you comment. So far the wear on the Method's has been very good with no signs of wear after about 11K miles on them. Road noise is definitely increased with the new tires especially on the highway....about 4 decibels on regular in town roads over stock. The freeway noise isn't unbearable, but it is louder for sure! As you might have seen from my early wheel/tire videos I kept my stock set up thinking I would put them on the car for highway trips, but decided to sell them after awhile. In your case with so much freeway travel it really might be worth doing the same if you can. The big downside is having to store them, put them on when you plan to go off roading and then having the TPMS reprogrammed each time. You can just live with the dash warning light while using the Methods and not worry about the programming....If you love how quiet the car is currently you might be bummed by the increase in noise. I don't want to scare you off at all because I love the look and performance of the method's/KO2's, but there is a difference.
      I have always liked the M3's and think it would be just about one of the best daily driver or fun sedan's to own. Great looking, quick and comfortable. We had a basic 3 series for a few years and other than all of the little maintenance issues it was a great driving car so the M3 must be amazing. Thank you again for your comment and let me know what you decide about the wheels/tires.

    Yes, there is a HK Reprogram recall (WUA-86) out on the 2017/2018 Impreza & 2018 and newer Legacy/Outback/BRZ/Crosstrek - Updating to version REL18.43.20
    My local service department informed me it's because of a Subies with the Harmon Kardon upgrade, the head units displays are failing to black screens. The update is an attempt to prevent the unit from failing, however if it has already failed the entire head unit has to be replaced.

    Another good video, and appreciate the wheel/tire info. I'm considering swapping out my 18's as well. Did I miss any discussion of weight with the new set up? Unsprung weight reduction should help handling, yes? Would a front tower brace help with any additional understeer? Also looking to do the map update from November as well as the HU recall update. Just went over 15k with my one year old 18 Limited and still love the car!

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Larry, thank you very much. The new set up was about 3 lbs heavier per wheel/tire according to my bathroom scale so probably not real accurate, but close. The 235's with KO2's that some have are 9 lbs heavier per wheel/tire. I talked about the weight in one of my earlier videos, but can not recall which one exactly. :) I am Getting old.
      I am honestly not sure about the strut tower brace helping the understeer..I believe they are more for stiffening up the car to reduce flex? Glad you are enjoying your car and best of luck with the updates. Let me know how it goes.

    I have a base model 19', the radio is fine, other than starting apps or putting the car in reverse locks out the volume adjustments...
    LP Adventure has new 5x100 wheels out
    Try a black Testers paint pen on your wheels, I was able to touch up the gloss black wheels on my GTI, after a couple of wipe offs and reapply's you couldn't tell the wheel was scratched its just hard getting a flat layer instead of a thick one

    Great videos- keep up the good work. Have you noticed an effect on your mpg with the new tire setup? Also, have you been able to throw it on a dyno to check the hp with the new tires. I've heard you loose about 20 hp with the heavier tire and with only 152 stock that seems like a big percentage- do you notice a loss in power?

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Před 5 lety

      Thanks so much. No real change in mpg from stock, but I only did 2,000 miles before putting on the new set up so my data is limited a little. I generally see 29 to 30mpg normal driving and up to 33 if I take it real easy or drive on the freeway a lot. I have not done a dyno, but did see the video Blake's garage did awhile back. Pretty interesting how the weigh of the 235 tires really robbed HP to get them moving. The 215's are a bit lighter so hopefully the loss isn't as pronounced. As far as driving feel goes I have not noticed the car feeling slower or anything along those lines.

    Hi Rick, glad your Crosstrek and tire/wheels are performing as intended! I turned 3900 miles yesterday after 12 1/2 months of ownership. Would have been around 2000 miles if I hadn't driven to AL almost 3 months ago. I have not had any issues with the drive ability or head unit or any issues for that matter. I enjoy driving it around town and haven't gotten gas since the Monday after Thanksgiving and still have just under 2/3 of a tank. Gas keeps dropping, now around $2.34/gal. so maybe by the time I need it it will be $2/gal. My record with this car is 3 months between gas stops with around town driving and getting gas at 1/4 of a tank! Any drone shots of the desert coming up, with or w/o snow?

I traded in my 2001 Z71(original owner) for a '19 limited a couple of weeks ago and am loving everything about it so far. So, when you go and get the new tires and rims installed what do you do with the factory installed tires? Do you keep them? Can they be interchanged without any extra work? Thanks as always.

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Před 5 lety

      That's awesome Kevin! Thank you very much. My initial plan was to keep the stock wheels and tires and put them on for long road trips because of the extra noise with the BFG's. Turn's out the noise really isn't that bad so I ended up selling them recently. Only thing to consider if you plan to switch back and forth is buying additional TPMS sensors for the new wheels and tires so that you have them in both sets. Otherwise, you will have the warning light on the dash for when you have the set on that doesn't have TPMS. Even if you do have TPMS in both sets you will still have to have them programmed to the car every time to switch them on and off the car.

    Iv got the 235/75/r15 the fuel milage does drop by 3-5+mpg depending on temperature also the noise is barely noticeable in warm weather but when its cold they are louder but that's due to the rubber being harder and the pressure bing lower (related to fuel milage drop in cold temps) the ride is great and traction is great my tires are falken wildpeak at3w and went with them over the bfg because of price (half the price) I do get some rubbing (hardly any at 35psi for winter temps and 37psi summer temps will rub more) the larger tires do equal about a 5/8 inch more ground clearance as they are about 1 1/4 inch taller than stock

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Před 5 lety

      HI Michael thank you for the info on your car with the 235's. I have read and seen that they tend to rub a bit at full lock on mud flaps. I am surprised you had such a loss in mpg, but I guess they are about 5lbs heavier per tire than my 215's. As to the tires giving more ground clearance isn't your overall diameter the same as your stock set up? You definitely have more sidewall going, but I'm not sure about ground clearance? My 215/75/15's are the same as the stock 225/55/18's in overall diameter...

    What I find annoying in my Crosstrek is the crack that comes from just above the center of the windshield when it's cold and I go over small bumps. also, when there is a lot of bass in a song playing, there is vibration on the passenger lower compartment area.

      The LP stuff is awesome, but I only recommend them if you are going with a full lift. Otherwise the loss of clearance is a big bummer. If I had to do it over I would probably just do the front bar. When I was looking for a bar LP's was the only one that protected the lower front. Best of luck!

    Any changes on gas consumption with this set up? Compared with stock what is the weight difference between the two?

    • @AZdroptop
      @AZdroptop  Před 5 lety

      Hey Joshua, no change MPG wise, sorry I didn't mention that here as it ended up on the editing floor. :) video was getting long. MPG is basically the same as stock. Keep in mind though I only had about 2k miles on the stock set up before the switch so my "baseline MPG" stats aren't huge. Generally I am looking at 29 or 30mpg indicated by computer(so 2 or 3 less real life) and if I drive mellow and not off road I can hit 32 or 33. Weight difference was only a 2 or 3 lbs..can't remember specifically, but it is in one of the earlier videos I did, but can't remember which one. I want to say the 235's were 9 lbs heavier for reference.

      Hi Joseph, I only had about 2,000 miles on my stock wheels/tires so I don't have a huge stock to non stock comparison,. But overall I have achieved basically the same mileage with the Methods/BFG's as I did with stock. In fact, I recorded a 33.5 mpg with the new set up at one point which was the best full tank I ever recorded. If there is a difference at all it is very slight, maybe 1 mpg.

      It has been awhile, but I want to say around $1500 with tires, wheels, valve stems, lugs, install, TPMS etc. Discount had a 0% interest CC deal going at the time and you receive a $50 card for buying wheels and $50 for buying tires. Plus, no interest for 12 months. Worked out great as I just paid it off early. Tirerack.com was actually a bit cheaper even with shipping, but their warranty seemed like kind of a pain to deal with. Hey Cody, so it works well initially and then if you unplug it and plug it back in it won't initialize again? I was having issues awhile back where mine wouldn't work unless the screen was unlocked. A subscriber pointed out that one of the IOS updates added a box you had to check on the phone to allow functions to work while the screen is locked...I imagine you already knew that, but though I would throw it out there. I believe there might have been a head unit update as well that you might ask the dealer about. Thank you for posting

    • @CodytheFordGuy
      @CodytheFordGuy Před 5 lety

      Rick Hutton yes it will work perfect at first. Best example I can give is say I start the car and run down to the gas station, I leave the car running and grab my phone, go in the store and come back out and when I plug it back in sometimes it doesn’t work quite right or will freeze for a short period of time. I’m going to get ahold of the dealer today and ask about that update. Otherwise I really like the carplay. Awesome videos, thanks to you I made my mind up and went with the 19 Crosstrek

      If you're off road and it's particularly rocky and rough or you're in deep sand, say a dry riverbed, you can safely air down to around 20 psi. Just don't forget the air compressor so you can air back up when you get back on the pavement. I've got the type of air compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
